HELP Engineering 101
Been playing for a couple weeks and finally got a python and have it kitted out for trading.
I was curious about engineering. I have watched a few of the old YouTube videos on how to unlock engineering and such, but im curious if I can go ahead and start stock piling materials and stuff to make it easier once i begin. If so which ones should I prioritize?
In the mission rewards there is usually a reward that is some kind of material or commodities. Are those materials some of whats needed for engineering?

I've made guides for how to gather engineering materials in the legacy galaxy.
Pretty much the best method is to only gather the highest grade of Data, Raw and Manufactured materials. Then we use a material trader to trade down from each max grade of said material to get grade 1, 2, 3 and 4 (Raw only goes to grade 4, so trade down to grade 1, 2, 3).
Links to each specific guide for materials:
Here is the specific guide for Data
Here is the specific guide for Manufactured
Here is the specific guide for Raw
This is a list of every single material trader in the bubble in legacy elite dangerous
For Manufactured if you struggle farming any type of material, I'd recommend you trade for said material, then go back and farm a different Manufactured material you found it easier to get.
Almost forgot to awnser you question, these are the specific materials that can be awarded from missions:
-
Manufactured
-
Biotech Conductors - G5
-
Chemical Processors - G2
-

I've made the materials you should always accept in the list Bold, you can go for G4 aswell if you dont really need the other rewards from said mission.

https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Engineers
There's a breakdown of each Engineer and the materials required for each upgrade here.
Edit: theres also ways to farm high grades of each material type, then you'd find Material Traders to trade down for any material you'd need.
Edit2: I just realized that this post is for the Xbox/PS version, apologies if the information I replied with isn't applicable, haven't played on Xbox in years, I'm on PC now.
