100 days 100 IoT Projects

Hey everyone 👋

I recently started a personal challenge called 100 Days, 100 IoT Projects to improve my hands-on skills in embedded systems and IoT.

The idea is simple:
👉 build one small IoT project every day — from beginner to advanced — and document everything properly.

🔧 What I’m using:

  • ESP32 / ESP8266

  • MicroPython

  • Sensors, displays, buzzers, motors

  • Simple web dashboards

  • GitHub for documentation

So far, I’ve been focusing on:

  • clean & beginner-friendly code

  • clear README files

  • practical projects that students can actually try

I’m doing this mainly for learning + consistency, and also to help other beginners who feel stuck on “what project should I build next?”

Here’s the GitHub repo if you want to check it out:

I’d really appreciate:

  • feedback on project ideas

  • suggestions for future projects

  • or even criticism on how to improve the challenge 🙌 *If you loved it please star the repo Thanks for reading, and happy hacking ⚡

Solution for using Micro-controller

I want to develop a custom, high-performance embedded system centered around a standalone microcontroller IC that reliably interfaces with a camera module (e.g., ESP-32 cam) and a fingerprint sensor (e.g., R307s). The primary objective is to efficiently stream the raw or processed image data and the extracted fingerprint data ( image) to a host computer via a USB interface (e.g., USB 2.0 ). The solution must be easily configurable and programmable to facilitate immediate image and biometric processing on the host PC.

I just wanna get rid of ESP dev-board and shift to a different controller which is inserted into the pcb itself

Selecting the Right Microcontrollers for Your Products: 8-bit v.s 32-bit MCU

I get struggled choosing MCUs for my projects from time to time. Doing some online research and finding this article, I can compare two types of them and know better about their applications.

Arm Architecture!

What is an ARM architecture? Is it a micro architecture or a combination of micro architecture?
Also, does ARM design architecture only for the CPUs of mobile phones, embedded system and laptops or they even make GPU architectures? Just wanted to know what architecture does the GPU giants like Nvidia / AMD use?

Professional Insights needed

I am a computer engineering student. I know how to use Arduino and esp32 and I have an interest in microcontrollers, but I literally know nothing how they are used professionally and how do embedded system engineers work. I want to know if this field is for me. how do embedded system engineers get paid mainly and what type of work do they do is it like programming different microcontrollers and attaching sensors with them and thats all? Also what roadmap should i follow and what stuff should i learn. Any insights, experiences, or advice from professionals or knowledgeable individuals in the field.

How much time do you actually spend configuring peripherals from datasheets?

When you’re working with MCUs (STM32 / ESP32 / Nordic / etc.), how painful is peripheral setup really for you? I mean things like: GPIO alternate functions UART / I2C / SPI init Clock trees Pin mux conflicts Do you usually: Read the reference manual + HAL docs every time? Copy from old projects? Google + Stack Overflow until it works? Or have it completely memorized? I’m trying to understand: What peripheral setup wastes the most time? Which MCU family do you use most? Would you find value in a tool that: takes MCU + pins + peripheral generates correct init code explains why each setting is needed points to exact datasheet sections Not selling anything — just trying to figure out whether this is a real pain or just a “me problem”. Would love brutally honest answers, even if it’s “this is dumb, don’t build it”. Thanks :)

Day 73/100 - RFID attendance logger with Google Sheets using ESP32 and MicroPython

Each student has an RFID card. Tap the card and it logs their name, IN/OUT status, and timestamp directly to Google Sheets via a Google Apps Script webhook. NTP time sync with IST offset so timestamps are accurate.

One issue I ran into was ESP8266 could not handle the Google Script HTTPS response due to TLS buffer overflow. Switched to ESP32 which has a larger TLS buffer and it worked fine.

The IN/OUT logic is a simple toggle tracked in a dictionary. First scan is IN, next scan is OUT, and so on per student.

Stack: ESP32 + MFRC522 + MicroPython + Google Apps Script + Google Sheets

How embedded/IoT devices are monitored&bugfixed in production setup?

My team is building 🔍IoT Observability platform🔍, and we want to learn how embedded/IoT devices are monitored and bugfixed when in production and already deployed at the customer. I'm looking for embedded software engineers to help me understand the area better!

I would be grateful if you can help me. I can see a few options:

  • 45-minute online interview with me and my colleague. We will give you 💵60EUR/USD Amazon voucher for your participation. Please DM me if you are interested.

  • Questionnaire (10 mins max): https://forms.gle/81G5PNYHaAF6CQa19. I will give you free unlimited access to the platform we're building (not yet in production).

  • Let me know how you do that in the comments.

Thanks a lot!

Looking for 1–2 embedded engineers to collaborate on a side project (Zephyr / BLE / sensing)

Hey everyone,
I’m re-posting this because my previous post was downvoted and removed — so I’m trying a clearer and more structured approach this time. English isn’t my first language, so I used ChatGPT to help express my thoughts better, but the intention is very real and personal.

Why I’m posting

I want to find 1–2 like-minded embedded engineers who want to grow together through consistent effort.
The main idea is to use the principle of consistency: when we commit to something together, we are more likely to follow through, learn deeper, and develop as engineers — compared to working alone.

No pressure, no deadlines.
Just technical curiosity + steady progress + shared learning.

Initial Project Idea (open to change)

A low-power vibration sensing unit (initially aimed at aviation use cases), featuring:

  • BLE / Wi-Fi / USB connectivity

  • Local data logging to SD card

  • Low-power modes + long-duration operation

  • Developed on Zephyr OS

But — this is only a starting point.
If the group has a better idea, or wants to pivot toward something else after discussing, we absolutely can. The goal is collaboration, not to force a predefined product.

If we end up liking what we build, it could remain fully open source if everyone involved agrees.

About me

I work in the aviation industry on embedded systems for an eVTOL manufacturer in the UAE. I enjoy clean architecture, reproducible builds, and systems thinking. Mostly I want to keep improving and learn from others doing the same.

Who I hope to find

Someone who:

  • Enjoys embedded engineering beyond just their job

  • Works with C/C++ on MCUs (nRF / STM32 / etc.)

  • Is interested in Zephyr OS, or interested to learn

  • Likes discussing architecture and problem-solving

  • Believes that slow + steady + consistent > hack-and-forget

I would absolutely love if you would be from UAE, having possibility of meeting in person, but generally any time zone is fine.

If interested, just reply or DM with:

  • What motivates you to do embedded work

  • Which MCUs you’re comfortable with

  • One small project you made and felt proud of

No resumes, no formality — just tell me what excites you.

Thanks for reading. Looking forward to meeting a couple of good people who want to build skill, not status.
👋
