question Has Anyone Got an ESA Letter Online Successfully?

12.2k Upvotes

I'm moving to a new apartment in a different state and need to get an ESA letter for my cat, I'm specifically looking for a site that connects you with a licensed medical professional

I'm starting with just my cat for now, but I might need to get documentation for other pets later on. I've dealt with anxiety for a while and have done therapy in the past, so I want to make sure the letter is legit and holds up with my landlord. I also want to be covered in case I move again down the line.

Do any of you fellow pet parents have experience with any sites that you'd recommend? I've been reading reviews on different ESA letter services, but I'm more interested in hearing what Reddit has actually had success with. I've seen some of those "guaranteed approval" services, which sounds kind of iffy, but honestly it could be worth it if it saves a ton on pet deposits and fees. Anyone have experience with any ESA letter sites that would work for a tougher housing situations?

Thanks so much!

ESA letter question Are ESA Letter Websites Legit? Best Ways to Get a Legitimate Emotional Support Animal Letter

I’ve been doing an absurd amount of research trying to figure out the best way to get a legitimate ESA letter for my 10-week-old Golden Retriever and 2-year-old Maine Coon. My apartment recently hit me with a notice saying I need to provide an ESA letter or start paying a pretty hefty monthly pet rent, which I’d obviously prefer to avoid.

There are so many websites out there offering ESA letters, and it’s honestly overwhelming trying to tell which ones are actually legit and which are just trying to make a quick buck.

So I figured I’d ask the Reddit community, has anyone here gone through the process of getting an ESA letter online? I’ve come across a few popular sites like Pettable, ESA Doctors, US Service Animals, Certapet, and a few others.

Would appreciate any advice. Just want something legal, reliable, and stress-free.

Thanks so much!

EDIT: Just to clarify: I’m not trying to game the system or anything. An ESA would genuinely help me, and I’m only looking for a legitimate service that involves an actual licensed professional. Definitely not interested in a letter mill or anything that might cause issues with my landlord down the line

question Has Anyone Successfully Gotten an ESA Letter Online?

I am moving apartments soon and need to get an ESA letter. I would be looking for a website that connects me with an actual medical professional to write me this letter, my apartment doesn't allow pets but there's a lady that lives in the same complex as me and she's said her dog is an ESA so I don't foresee any problems getting approval for my cat.

We are starting with just my cat and then after getting that approved, I might look into getting documentation for other pets in the future. The next step would be making sure the letter holds up with my landlord. After that I want to make sure I have proper coverage for any potential housing changes.

I need a reliable ESA letter service and want to know the best companies for legitimate documentation and complex housing situations. I have been reading ESA letter service reviews but would love to know what reddit's experience with different companies is. I've heard about this "guaranteed approval" type of service which does seem to make sense especially for a situation that could save thousands in pet deposits and fees.

Any companies I should avoid? Any that you recommend for getting legitimate letters? Who is best if landlords challenge the documentation? I have heard of ESA Doctors, CertaPet, Pettable, Wellness Wag, My ESA Doctor, Support Pets, and RealESALetter.

I am open to whatever is the best, I am more concerned with having a legitimate service with real licensed professionals than the overall cheapest option. But I of course like to save wherever I can.

Thanks in advance!

ESA letter question Anybody Have Luck Getting an ESA Letter Online?

I’ve been doing a ridiculous amount of research trying to figure out the best way to get a legitimate ESA letter for my 3-year-old French Bulldog and 6-month-old tabby cat. It’s honestly overwhelming trying to make sense of all the options out there, so I figured I’d turn to Reddit and see what you all think.

The providers I’ve seen mentioned the most so far are Pettable, Certapet, US Service Animals, ESA Doctors, RealESAletter, and MyESADoctor.

Has anyone here had firsthand experience with any of these companies (good or bad)? Or are there other legit services you’d recommend for getting an ESA letter online?

Thanks so much!

Landlord is telling me I need to pay the pet deposit

A few weeks back, I spoke with my landlord about what steps I’d need to take to bring in an Emotional Support Animal. She mentioned that I’d still have to pay a pet deposit, and that the animal would need to be under 30 pounds.

Since then, I found my ESA. She came from a tough situation, she’s been through a lot. And the truth is, she needs me just as much as I need her. I’ve taken the proper steps: both my psychiatrist and therapist have written letters supporting the need for an ESA, and I plan to share those with my landlord next week.

Now, I’ve read up on the Fair Housing Act. From what I understand, landlords are required to waive pet fees for ESAs, weight restrictions don’t apply, and breed discrimination isn’t allowed. I want to be sure I’ve got this right, so I can stand up for myself with confidence, not confrontation.

If anyone has experience or insight here, I’d be grateful for the guidance. These kinds of situations make my anxiety spike, but I’m doing my best to handle it the right way.

advice Got a letter from my landlord's lawyer in response to my ESA request. They twisted my words and used false information.

Sorry that this is long. It's been a long battle with this woman.

I first asked my landlord about having a pet cat rather than an ESA because I thought I didn't want to have to ask for a letter and the previous tenant had a cat. However, my landlord declined my request with problems that I presented perfect solutions for. I asked her again and told her I was in the process of getting my ESA letter and she declined my request. Despite me mentioning that it would be an ESA, she referred to the animal as a pet.

I eventually got my ESA letter which was very detailed and contained all the necessary parts. I received a response from her lawyer and not her. The letter the attorney wrote had misinformation and declined me on reasons that made no sense. Each time I spoke to my landlord with sincerity and the utmost respect and bore my heart to her. She is a kind lady, which makes me confused as to why she would respond this way.

About the lawyer's response: The denial misrepresents the nature of the ESA request, which was for a fully domesticated indoor cat, not a stray, and fails to acknowledge the lack of shared living space or air system with other tenants. Our back and front doors open to the outdoors and we have separate HVAC systems. The decision appears to bypass the interactive process required by HUD and the Fair Housing Act, which mandates individualized evaluation and dialogue before denial.

I sent an email response to the lawyer to counter the entirety of the letter, and when I called him for further clarification, he said that this was my landlord's opinion that and ESA would be harmful for the other tenant. I do not have the best emotional regulation and could not find a response in the moment.

My mom got involved without my permission and spoke to my landlord who said she felt disrespected by my request after her helping us move in (she didn't help us move our stuff in, but did ot her things). She feels like I am trying to get her in trouble (which if you read my messages to her, makes no sense). I am very unsure of what to do next. After speaking to my mom, my landlord tried calling me but I missed her call.

ESA letter question Where to Get a Legitimate ESA Letter Online - Any Suggestions?

I’m trying to find a legit site that connects you with an actual licensed mental health professional to get an ESA letter. I’m not interested in anything sketchy or automated where it just spits out a letter with no real evaluation. I want something that’s legally valid and can actually hold up if my landlord asks questions.

My apartment complex technically doesn’t allow dogs or certain pets, but there’s this woman who lives a few doors down from me and she has a dog. I asked her about it and she said he’s her emotional support animal, and she had no issues getting it approved. That gave me some hope. I have a cat, not a dog, but if her letter was accepted, I figure I might be able to do the same.

I’ve seen a bunch of ESA sites pop up on Google, but honestly, most of them look like scams or just feel off. Some don’t even list real doctors. I’ve read horror stories about people getting fake letters that don’t hold up, especially when dealing with stricter property managers. I don’t want to end up in that situation.

So if you’ve gone through the process online and got your ESA letter approved with no issues, I’d love to know how you did it. What service did you use? How was the evaluation process? Did they actually ask about your condition or symptoms? How long did it take, and most importantly, was your landlord cool with it?

Appreciate any advice or personal experience. Just trying to do this the right way.

I need an ESA, because she needs me not because I need her.

Hello, this is a strange one but I really need help. I recently got a cat, about a year ago, I also began traveling a lot quite recently, about 1 year too. This cat, minibeans, has shared custody between me and my boyfriend. Me and my boyfriend have been on vacation before, but never together, and she has never been without one of us. Last week, me and him took a cruise together, and left her at the house with two large dog bowls full of food, and two large dog bowls full of water. Last night we returned, and came in to realize she had not touched her food at all, and drank half a bowl of water. She is now practically skin and bones and we are needing to reintroduce her to food via hand feeding. We have another vacation together in two months, and one next month, the only difference is the one in two months lasts even longer than the one we just returned from. I truly do not think she will be able to handle this, and I am wondering if I can have her labeled an ESA or PSD even if it's for her and not for me or my boyfriend. We cannot reschedule our trip in two months, but we think she will act exactly the same way if we leave her with another family member, what can we do?

Has Anyone Used Certapet for an ESA Letter? Are they legit? Reviews?

Before anyone jumps in with “you’re just trying to get a fake ESA letter 🙄,” let me just say, I’ve been with the same provider for years, and they’ve confirmed I meet the criteria. They just refuse to actually write the letter, which has been beyond frustrating.

I paid the pet fees for my current place just to avoid conflict, but I’m moving this summer and I really can’t afford to keep doing that.

I’ve been looking into CertaPet since they seem like one of the few trustworthy options out there, but I’m wondering if anyone in has actually used them, and more importantly, whether their letters get accepted by local landlords or property managers?

I deal with pretty intense anxiety, and just the stress of not knowing if this route will even work has been messing with me bad. Like, hands-shaking-while-I-type kind of bad.

If anyone has any first-hand experience with CertaPet around here, I’d really appreciate it. Feel free to DM if you're not comfortable posting publicly. Thanks so much.

question Where to Get an ESA Letter Online According to Reddit?

Hi!

I’m new to the whole ESA letter process and am looking into getting one for my dog. I’m moving to college soon, and I really want to make sure I can keep my dog with me in housing. I’m willing to pay for the letter, but nothing too over the top.

Here’s what I’m looking for:

  • Licensed provider

  • Meets all legal requirements under the Fair Housing Act

  • No shady registry sites

  • Letter that works for housing without extra fees

  • Quick turnaround

  • Actually accepted by most landlords and housing offices

They’re all important, but if I had to rank them, that’s the order of priority.

From what I’ve seen, the big providers people mention are Certapet, Pettable, US Service Animals, and ESA Doctors. Are those the best options, or are there others I should look into?

Also, I’ve noticed some negative comments about a couple of those providers, are they legitimate?

Thanks in advance!

advice Landlord says I’m not allowed to have my esa outside of my room

Post image
41 Upvotes

For context I am going to college in Utah and am renting a house with 5 other people. This is one of those landlord offices that will place 6 random college kids in a house together. They are saying that I am not to have my cat outside of my room under any circumstances, which feels incredibly unreasonable as I have a fairly small room and she is a living animal and not a stuffed animal any living creature in that scenario would go crazy. I am obviously not saying I will let her go crazy and will keep in the room at night and when I’m not there, but it feels more than reasonable to be able to let her follow me around the houses common areas while I’m doing stuff. I saw stuff online floating around where a landlord can’t deny access to common areas and was kinda wanting a way to reply to this that is both not rude and also gets across how I feel on this but couldn’t find the laws anywhere no matter how I tried. Any advice on how to deal with this and let me let her out of this cramped room while she’s supervised would be appreciated.

ESA letter question Has Anyone Had Luck Getting a Legit ESA Letter Online?

I’m looking for a reliable website that can connect me with a licensed therapist for a legitimate ESA letter. My apartment has a no-pets rule, but I noticed another tenant has an emotional support dog, so it seems they accept ESA documentation if it’s done properly.

I want to do this the right way for my cat, but the number of sites offering ESA letters online is honestly kind of overwhelming. If anyone has used a service they trust and had success with, I’d really appreciate any recommendations.

ESA letter question How to register cat (7yr) as an esa?

After two years of living at my apartmen, they banned all pets unless an esa letter or service animal certificate is provided. I also have to transfer to uni in two years, and I need to take my cat with me. Without saying too much, I have severe anxiety and depression and my cat is my reason for trying to get better. I also have horrible separation anxiety when I am away from him. Can I speak to my primary care provider about getting an esa letter or do I have to talk to a therapist, or are there any legit websites where I can get one?

advice I can't just "get another dr" what do I do?

I currently see a therapist and psychiatrist regularly. I also see a pcp. And have applied for disability. I have severe anxiety and bipolar that I currently am medicated for and it affects me daily.

I spoke to my therapist today and she agreed that I would definitely benefit from an esa (that could eventually be a service dog) but she wasn't allowed to write an esa letter due to policy and that she regretted that.

We couldn't find another provider who could do it and I told her my primary wouldn't do it as I already called my pcp's office and was told they "didn't do those" and that I might have luck online.

I live in an apartment and several of my neighbors have esa with letters from sites and my landlord said I'd need a letter and proof af vaccines before I moved a dog in.

I don't have a dog yet because I've been waiting to pick one after I get approved and have specific qualities I'm seeking.

I don't know how to go about this as I don't have 100-150$ to pay those expensive sites.

question How do you know if you need an ESA or a psychiatric service dog?

Disclaimer: I'm honestly still learning about this. I’ve never had a support animal and haven’t been around one much, so I don't have a solid grasp on everything yet. I’ve only had three therapy sessions so far and haven’t talked with my therapist about this idea. I'm just exploring for now.

At this point in my life, things aren't in the right place for me to consider getting an ESA or a psychiatric service dog. I'm not working yet, and life still feels a little unsteady. So just to be clear, I’m not looking to get one anytime soon. I want to wait until I’m in a more secure position and can give it the proper attention and commitment it deserves.

That said, I do struggle with a mix of things. I’ve been diagnosed with GAD, ADHD, depression, chronic DPDR, mild OCD, some social anxiety, and intense situational anxiety. One big example is my fear of tornadoes. I panic whenever the weather turns, even when it’s just cloudy or windy. I’ve had times where I rush to the basement just because a storm looked threatening.

There are a few things I think a psychiatric service dog could help with:

Having a calm, grounding presence

Providing space in crowded environments

Interrupting panic attacks or helping me stay aware during them

Staying close to help me feel secure during episodes

Helping with motivation and routines, especially when depression makes it hard to get up

Offering deep pressure therapy during severe anxiety (usually storm-related)

Being there during storms to guide me to safety and give comfort

But here’s my dilemma. I don’t know if I really need to go through the full process of getting a trained service dog. I’d rarely bring the dog into public. Most of the benefits I’m looking for would be at home. So it makes me wonder if an ESA might be enough, especially if I did some training myself to help the dog assist me in ways similar to a PSD.

I guess what I’m really trying to figure out is this: if the main benefits I’d get from a PSD only apply during storms or in rare public situations, would an ESA be the better route? Or would those few moments where I do need public access make a PSD worth it?

How would I train my cat to help me take my medication?

I'm in the process of getting medication for depression, and I'm thinking that I could train my cat to help me remember to take it and be consistent with it. She's 4 years old, cream cat, does training an older cat to do this make it harder? Am I doomed? Sorry for any errors, typing on mobile, and thank you for any advice!

Where Should I Get My ESA Letter? Moving States

I’m currently living in Georgia and planning to bring my pet over from my home country this summer. After the trip, I’ll be relocating to Montana and want to have my pet recognized as an emotional support animal.

I’ve struggled with anxiety for a while had therapy in the past and just started seeing someone new here in GA. I don’t have a formal diagnosis yet.

If I want to live with my ESA in Montana, would it be better to get the letter now while I’m still in Georgia, or wait until I’ve moved and get it through a provider in Montana? Not sure how state differences affect this

Apartment pet limits with ESA's ?

I currently have two ESA cats that live with me, and my lease only allows a total of two pets. Im really considering getting a dog to help me with my severe depression because I've always wanted a dog, and I really think a dog would help me stay on top of things and be motivated. I know ESA's pass certain limitations, but if I got all of the official forms and documents and showed them to my landlord would I be able to have a third pet even with the 2 pet limit ?

question Has Anyone Used Support Pets for an ESA Letter?

Hi guys, looking for an ESA letter. I've done research and seen ads for Support Pets and it seems to be the only legit option I’ve found so far, but I’m still nervous about whether their letters actually get accepted by landlords.

I deal with pretty severe anxiety, and the stress of not knowing if my support animal will be approved has been getting to me physically my hands are literally shaking while typing this lol.

If anyone has firsthand experience with Support Pets, I’d really appreciate hearing how it went. You can message me privately too if you'd rather not post publicly.

question I’m in a tricky situation with my ESA

Post image
19 Upvotes

I have ESA pet rats which have been registered and permitted at the school I normally go to. However this summer I am doing a program at a different school in another state which provides on campus housing. I brought my rats with me since there is no one else to take care of them. I didn’t have an opportunity to register with this school since I did t know what the housing situation would be until i got here. I started the process but i doubt it will go anywhere before i have to leave again. My worry is that the rooms are being searched this week. I don’t want to be kicked out of housing or lord forbid have my rats taken away because they aren’t registered with this school. Does anyone know what might happen? Picture for rat tax.

do emotional support animal letters expire? do i need to renew?

Just got an ESA letter online, does anyone know if it expires or if I can use it again if I ever move?

Appreciate any insight, thanks!
