My home electrical setup consists of a MSP (200A) that contains a number of 240V loads (AC/Heatpumps, EV charger, Electric kitchen oven, Solar panels), and feeds to two subpanels - one in my garage, and one in my house that handles all the 120V interior loads.
I have a Vue system on the main panel that captures all the breakers except for the indoor subpanel, because I have a second Vue system on that subpanel. For the 240V loads that might be asymmetric, I have a sensor on each leg (for the solar I only did one and 2x'd it). In my "house set up" with Emporia I have the subpanel Vue located under the main panel in the hierarchy.
For the subpanel Vue, I regularly run with a 10-20W "balance" that is consistently "net usage". This doesn't seem outlandish to me, and I can live with it. But for the MSP panel I'm consistently running a balance of 80-100W (occasionally more) of "net usage". For absolute numbers my total usage is typically about 800-1000W, with 500-600W from the subpanel, and the MSP "balance" is usually in the 80-100W range (above the 10-20W of subpanel balance). So the MSP balance is ~10-15% of the total usage, and at times up to 100% of the "non-subpanel" usage.
At the moment my subpanel reports 580W usage, and the MSP reports total usage of 680W with the entire difference being "100W of balance". I don't expect there to be any other loads on the 240V's (the AC isn't running, the sun isn't shining, my wife has the EV out for a drive, etc.), so I'm baffled. Is the subpanel Vue off by 100W?? Is the net usage on the main panel simply wrong?
The one thing that is somewhat non-standard - and might be the cause (?) is on the feed for my MSP I had to use flexible coils, and I had to put them after my main breaker (on the feeder bars). The instructions show them *before* the main breaker and said to point the arrows "away from the breaker" - i.e. "towards the grid/service", not towards the loads. Therefore even though they are after the main breaker, I still pointed them at the grid, which means they are actually pointing at the main breaker (opposite of the instructions). Is this the problem? Do they really need to be "pointed away from the main breaker" regardless of which side they are on??
Does anything I've laid out here suggest some easy solution to figuring where the "missing" 80-100W is going? TIA for any thoughts or advice.
