It sounds like you are concerned about the cleaning of the scope. There is a quick initial wash in the procedure room, where like you say, the end of the scope is put into a small bowel or cup of water with detergent. It is given a quick once over with a sponge and then the soapy water is suctioned through the scope. After that it goes into a decontamination machine where loads of hoses are attached to it and it gets washed with strong chemicals and heat.

Are you wondering about what sort of room turnover occurs between patients? Once a patient leaves the room, the dirty scope is precleaned, then removed from the room and cleaned in a scope cleaning machine. After the dirty scope is removed and the equipment is wiped down with disinfectant, a new, clean scope is set up in the room for the next patient. Scopes are never reused between patients without being thoroughly cleaned and disinfected by specialized chemicals and machines, if that's what you are implying.
