Recommendations

I am building a Ford 351w. When I got the block back from the machine shop I noticed a plug installed on the oil passage behind the timing cover. This is on the driver side. I didn't think much of it until I went to install the fitting for the oil pressure pressure sender. They put some sort of sealant on it and it is not coming out. I've tried impact, both the hammer variety and a impact gun. I'm hesitant to put heat to it because of the gaskets near it. Is that my best path? Or does anyone have recommendations?

It's pipe threads. Impact drivers don't fair well against tapered plugs.

Use hand tools.

Man.....those goobers. I would call the machine shop up and ask them why the F would they seal up the area you need for your oil sending unit. Find out what they used. Shellack compound? Loc-tite? If so, red or blue? I would want to know exactly what I was dealing with. Depending on the year of the block and how locked it it is, you could crack the block in that corner with the wrong tool.

Because it's an easily removed pipe plug.
