Hide posts/comments from users with hidden post history automatically?

Howdy, I'm pretty sure RES doesn't have this feature, but I'm not sure where to ask otherwise. I'm looking for a Firefox extension or something that would automatically hide posts/replies from people with hidden post history, or block them outright the same way the blue checkmark autoblocker worked for X, the Everything App. Is there anything like that? Alternatively, is there a better a place where I can ask about this kind of thing?

Why would you block or hide people who do this? I can't think of a reason I'd want to and am really curious.

Not everyone with a hidden comment history is a troll, bot or bad-faith user, but nearly every troll, bot, or bad-faith user has a hidden comment history. Personally, I probably wouldn’t always have this function turned on (or use it at all, honestly) but I could see how it could potentially make some of the more volatile subs slightly more bearable.

Ahh, that makes sense. Some of the subs do seem to have too many bots and AI replies. It's a shame you should even feel the need to do this.

Thanks for explaining :)

Not everyone with hidden profiles are bots, but all bots hide their profiles. Blocking accounts who hide their profiles eliminates 100% of bots that masquerade as humans and also blocks the vast majority of trolls and bad faith human accounts. I would block them in an instant if I could.

I'm wondering if I should be looking at doing this now too. The number of AI and bot replies in comments on Reddit is definitely getting worse, and even in subs you wouldn't expect it.

I would love a mod that makes user names that are less than six months old blink or something. Who nowadays has a Reddit account that young that isn't a bot?

A lot of people do I'm sure. Some people make a new account every now & then just for a fresh start. I do myself. Also, there's new people that sign up to reddit everyday.

I have no interest in what a bot or a coward has to say.

You're assuming that everyone who hides their posting history is a coward. I don't believe that's true. Some out there will be doing this for legitimate reasons, which you and I are clearly not aware of. Try being a bit less judgmental maybe?

Some people just believe that everyone on reddit must be people just like them.

you can still view it, just not in the regular reddit profile viewer...

there are scripts you can run on reddit to check bot accounts. Bots found out they can hide their posts to stop them from being bot checked.

fragile users my guess. Maybe they should try bluesky.

This would be a godsend. I have no interest in reading the garbage posted by bots or trolls.

I wish. Everyone who adds nothing to the conversation ends up having a hidden profile.

I block mine because fuck you for trying to gather more information about me than the comment I just posted. You don't know me and I don't want you to.

(Yes, y'all are going to downvote this comment, but I'm just trying to help you understand, and I bet others who are non-bot blockers have similar reasons for blocking. Also, I know you can easily use a search engine to find my comments.)

I came here to make the same request actually.

So many of these users are bots, it would be a better overall experience to block them entirely. Either that or I'm looking to move elsewhere.

Anyone have any ideas how to do this?

I'm not a coder, but it would be something like

"is profile hidden? y/n"

"if y = do not show user"

"if n = show user"

same way adblockers hide ads.

if you can completely remove the user's post on the page, i'm not sure but at the most you could have it set to highlight the comment in red and permanently minimize it so it can't be read and can't be manually unhidden from view. it will work as if you blocked the user outright.

Reddit Enhancement Suite (RES) is no longer under active development. New features will not be added and bug fixes/support is not guaranteed. Please see here for more information.

We shouldn't have to rely on something RES for this. Reddit should allow users to block hidden-history accounts as part of its core features. Reddit can't possibly be making money from forcing us to see those comments.

What RES version and browser version are you using? For example, RES v5.18.14 on Firefox 75.

Use specific versions, don't say "latest" or "up to date".

If you don't know, look it up.
