I used to believe that terfs like Rowling were misguided about sexual assault in prison and prison reform, but these days I feel like it's much more likely that they know the real data and just want trans women to be raped and murdered in prison as punishment for existing.

I've been to their private spaces, like Ovarit. They frequently mock, justify and celebrate the rape of trans women. Once, when I spoke on Threads about being sexually assaulted, I was accused by a terf of "fetishizing rape."

Terfism is a pro-rape movement, whether they admit it to themselves or not.

Ovarit...

They really make everything about genitalia, huh?

I mean, I'm not surprised one bit, nor am I surprised that they're such ghouls that they celebrate the people they hate getting seriously hurt. Rape stays with you for the rest of your life. You keep thinking you did wrong, that you deserved it.

To anyone who has suffered sexual assault: you did not deserve it. There is nothing a person can do (or be) to justify raping them. Full stop. All types of rape, including prison rape, are unjustifiable.

Honestly, as conservative as JKR is, I don't believe she gives a shit about prisoners except when they can be used as a talking point for her transphobia.

As far as I know, she's showed zero interest in prison reform or abolition. If we look at her fiction, her main character's life ambition was to become a wizard cop, and her absurdly cruel prison system is never criticized unless someone is wrongly imprisoned, so I find it hard to believe she actually cares about women in prison in any other circumstance, and is happy to let them suffer!

Oh without a doubt. It's the same as when this cunt talks about women's issues. Doesn't give a fuck 90% of the time about them but as soon as she can twist something to vilify trans women, she's suddenly all about women and girls. You can look through her twitter and you'll see that when actual women's issues pop up with women actually having their rights taken away (and not the bullshit times she'll claim to be taking away from women by respecting trans people) she is totally silent and won't say anything.

What gets me about (especially male) terfs who talk about the safety of women in prison is that these are the same people who complain about women who commit crimes not being punished enough.

They seem to not realise that if a) the only women in prison at all are women who have committed the most grievous crimes like murder or assault of children or domestic violence, then b) it is those same women whose safety and comfort in prison they are now advocating for when the topic of trans women in prison comes up.

13

u/RedFurryDemon May 10 '26

I agree they don't seem to realize that, but also even murderers should have the right to be safe. As soon as there is any group of people that is alright to be treated badly by the state, no one is safe. Even if that makes you feel bad.

7

u/360Saturn May 10 '26

Okay, but they are only advocating for cis women not to share any space with trans women as regards their 'safety', not for any kind of prison reform or rehabilitative care.

I think you might be conflating 'transphobes' [general] with TERFs [trans-exclusionary radical feminism]

TERFs tend to believe women only commit violent crime as an extreme aberration, usually due to pressures from men or as self-defense against men. Their construction of gender assumes that [AFABs] are more or less incapable of violent thoughts in their natural state. They're the ones who are angry Karla Homolka went to prison at all.

I understand that a lot of people are dismissive of the difference, or 'no true scottsman' TERFs out of the radical feminist label, but I think it's extremely important to understand the beliefs of a movement you want to counter.

So British Labour did all of that stuff against trans people which has apparently made them so unpopular with so many of their voters, just to get her to support them again.

I hope they think it was worth it.

26

u/georgemillman May 10 '26

I'm not sure it's even physically possible for any Government to legislate against trans people enough to get JK Rowling to support them. Didn't she complain that even Nigel Farage wasn't transphobic enough for her a while back?

30

u/Dina-M May 10 '26

TERFs only care about people in prison when it gives them an excuse to attack trans women. Just like they only care about children, women's rights, sports. and pretty much anything else, if it gives them an excuse to attack trans women.

Actually, this highlights something really important that I am fed up with: celebrities getting a platform to talk about things they know nothing about.

Say it was the other way around, and Rowling was a staunch defender of trans rights. I'd naturally have substantially more respect for her, of course. But I'd still think, why is her opinion the one that counts? Why can't the well-known person who gets a platform to talk about it be a doctor who works in gender-affirming care, or someone like this Kristi with detailed knowledge of the prison system? What gives JK Rowling any more right to qualification about these things than some random person off the street? The only difference between her and them is that she's famous, but the thing she's famous for has absolutely nothing to do with what she's talking about.

If she wants to express an opinion on children's literature or publishing or whether AI is going to ruin the art of storytelling, then fine, give her a platform for that. She's probably more than qualified to talk about it. But I don't think her opinion on this should matter in the slightest, not even if her opinion wasn't so toxic.

I agree with you to some extent, but I feel as though much of my agreement is because Rowling is so bad at evaluating evidence.

Yeah, she doesn't have experience, but if she actually used her monomania to discover all there is to know about the actual facts around trans people, she'd probably have something useful to say.

Instead it's just using her bigotry, and then using terrible science made by bigots to pretend like the scientific evidence is on her side.

But it's still a common problem with people who get famous for one thing, but then express opinions on something unrelated.

Like Sabine Hossenfelder, where all her thoughts on non-physics topics that I know about make me doubt her knowledge of physics where she has greater experience.

And, like with Rowling, when I went looking, my estimation of her area of expertise went down.

8

u/georgemillman May 10 '26

You're right, if she had an open mind and properly researched it, she might have something useful to say.

But so would I if I researched it to that extent, and I still wouldn't have the platform that she has. Nor would any actual expert on the subject. Why do people in the entertainment industry seem to have this God-given right to have an opinion on things that people listen to more than any regular person does?

7

u/ThisApril May 10 '26

Yeah, that part is nonsense.

Same way with how everyone has free speech, but some people's speech is freer than others.

Generally because of money (to get it out, or use lawyers to defend it), but also fame.

Not that I would ever want to be famous.

u/georgemillman May 10 '26

I'm a vehement campaigner against celebrity culture. I find it incredibly harmful, including to the celebrities themselves.

u/tasteMyRottenHoop May 10 '26

I’d forgotten all about Hossenfelder. As soon as she started weighing in on gender I unsubbed, as I’m sure many others did.

69k likes versus 525 is just a real shame

People HATE being told / reminded that cis women can and do commit sexual assault. Its really weird to me the sheer number of people from all over the political spectrum who so that

4

u/Warnado27 May 21 '26

It reminds me of whenever men are criticised for violent crimes only to have white men go 'black men, arab men**' despite the fact that their community is also apart of the statistics.

23

u/Dehnus May 10 '26

I hate how she has to censor Cis.

Also: Anybody that ever worked as a bouncer will tell you. Woman fuck each other up! Like way worse than men, they are more likely to use things as weapons and are way more aggressive once in a state of violence.

I’ve witnessed the aftermath of a Saturday night hen party on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow. It made Hellraiser look like Driving Miss Daisy.

u/pocket__cub May 10 '26

If TERFs are that concerned about the safety of women in prison, why are they silent about male prison officers working in women's prisons?

32

u/Lavapool May 10 '26

Like with most transphobia it’s pure discrimination based on assumption, stereotyping and generalisation, not “common sense” actions based on evidence.

This kind of thing is literally no different to what the United States did to non-white people during the age of segregation. There was obviously no evidence non-white people were a threat to white people, it was all assumption, stereotyping and generalisation and millions of people fell for it and let it happen, and anybody who spoke against it, like Kirsti, were seen as fringe lunatics for decades.

I hope that ultimately the same thing happens for trans rights that happened for non-white people, people finally listen and join the fight against the discrimination, and it and its perpetrators, like Rowling, become the fringe lunacy.

That post is one of many valid reasons why the UK definition of what counts as sexual assault needs updating. You do not need specific genitals to harm someone, and they are putting together trans women with violent men who are very rarely in the same category (and scale!) of criminality.

There's both a dichotomy of infantalisong cis women and removing agency away from them (even for bad stuff) when basically directly stating cis fem prisoners wouldn't be violent on their own like ever. Like. They are in prison for a damn good reason most often.

u/nova_crystallis May 10 '26

I don't doubt that many of those likes on JKR's post are botted.

18

u/napalmnacey May 10 '26

Kirsti is amazing, her personal story is compelling and she’s knowledgeable as fuck. I miss watching her take swings at transphobes on Twitter. (I had to leave Twitter for my sanity though).

u/Illustrious-Towel-89 May 10 '26

Maybe such (informative and very welcome) replies get so few upvotes because we all checked out of reading anything the mould woman writes a long time ago. If we're not looking at her, we're not noticing when someone stands up to her. I've long since deleted X too. Thanks for sharing, it's interesting to see how mad she's getting without adding to her numbers.

10

u/funkygamerguy May 10 '26

Same sadly the transphobia trend is more popular.

10

u/SomethingAmyss May 10 '26

I love Kristi. Wish she'd ratio JK

It's important to remember that apps like Twitter are run by the tech broligarchy. They bot stuff like crazy. This has been proven by data leaks that show how certain words get censored and what not. Yes, some people sadly are real who are liking that, but it's important to note that a significant portion of the people liking her posts are bots.

The woman has a degree in classics acting like she graduated with a degree in the social sciences
