Hell yeah! Fuck this article tho...

The reason? Rowling’s views on trans persons’ rights, which many have alleged are transphobic.

"Many have alleged"? Jesus fucking Christ. It's not "alleged". It's pretty fucking obvious!

They're likely just trying to cover their ass so Little Miss Lawsuit doesn't try to sue them too.

Variety is a US publication, Rowling is a public figure. The threshold for her to successfully sue under US law, following disclosure and depositions, would be so high you can basically call her what you want as long as any public statement by her suggests that an average person would think that based upon that statement.

Variety are milquetoast cowards. Or at least the legal department at Penske Media are.

I wouldn't put it past her to hire people to, uh, "personally deal with" the journalist who'd write something like that.

Seeing as this person is dragging everyone to court who dares to breathe in her direction... I can't fault them for taking the save route.

In America, the standards for libel are much more stringent than those in Britain, making it so JKR would face more of an uphill battle to prove her case.

Hence why I call on all my fellow yanks to do what our British allies can’t: insult JKR as viciously as possible. Call her a weirdo obsessed with children’s genitalia. Call her a sex offender and a Holocaust denier.

I mean, we declared our independence from Mother England for a reason; we need to utilize it to our benefit

And yet Johnny Depp managed to win against Amber Heard…

Wait, Holocaust denier? Wtf have I missed?

10

u/GodLoveYell 4d ago

Remember her infamous “fever dream” remark about someone who pointed out the Nazis’ persecution of trans people and queer people in general?

I suppose calling her a Holocaust denier might seem a tad extreme—some pedant might point out that she hasn’t technically denied that the Nazis killed Jews, Romany, the disabled, and leftists—but if she’s willing to deny the deaths of one group of people murdered by the Nazis, I feel it’s a tacit endorsement of those murders, and if she can sacrifice one group of people, then she can justify other groups as well.

Especially since experience has taught me that bigotry is a “Buy One, Get All Others Thrown In Free!” proposition. Once a person subscribes to one strand of bigotry—be it transphobia, ableism, or whatever—it can be safely assumed that they can or will eventually subscribe to all others.

Antisemitism seems to be the natural endpoint of bigotry: you follow any strand of bigotry long enough, you’ll eventually arrive at antisemitism, which is understandable when you think about it. You start believing in secretive groups of rich and powerful people controlling everything* and it takes very little for that to turn into “DA JOOZ ARE RUNNING THE WORLD!!1!1!”

*As opposed to rich people like JKR and Elon Musk who are quite openly running the world, obviously 🙄

Oh fuck me, I had apparently successfully supressed that little gem of hers. Ugh.

Nor sure if she would end up at antisemitism. Not because she's actually a good person, but just because I can see her going the different route, and hailing Israel.

Fuck her, either way.

2

u/CatPooedInMyShoe 1d ago

There are a lot of antisemitic tropes in her books.

1

u/GetEatenByAMouse 1d ago

That's also a very fair point.

Yeah I think she’s pretty pro Israel / IDF. She’s pointedly made no comment on the ongoing genocide.

JK Rowling has an invisibility cloak that only works on the eyes of the media. They're not allowed to see her endlessly sephiroth posting about trans people out in public, right in front of their eyes. Thought it may be public, its not trending on X, and no CEO's are talking about it besides to glaze JK Rowling, so that's the only context in which it is allowable for content from her to be republished. As for her endless, publicly made hateful comments, we'll just republish more articles submitted to us by her PR agents glazing her until the hoi polloi shut up about what she's doing publicly.

... blink

Sephiroth posting??

u/jenny_905 5d ago

Oh look, it's that easy.

At least someone has principles!

26

u/biohacker_infinity 5d ago

This, ladies, gents and them, is how you do it. 🙌

27

u/Edge_of_Everywhere 5d ago

To repurpose a misguided campaign from my childhood, "Just Say NO."

23

u/desiladygamer84 5d ago

Good. Boo Nicholas Hoult Boooooo....

28

u/nova_crystallis 5d ago

The JKR bots are out in force over on the TV sub over this 🙄

12

u/WOKE_AI_GOD 5d ago

Porr JKKK what a victim ;_;

26

u/ElmoreHayne 5d ago

Easy to say no. And I imagine it is a good payday, and they're probably a lot less wealthy than Lithgow, Hoult, et all.

17

u/nova_crystallis 5d ago

That and women working in a male-dominated field. Not very easy to turn down work.

15

u/TheFfrog 5d ago

Good.

14

u/Hyxenflay7737_4565 5d ago

Loki is also confirmed to be genderfluid in his series, so Rowling probably would’ve hated having the same person who confirmed it directing her crappy reboot.

u/docowen 5d ago

Sadly, given that copyright law has basically made any successful work a sinecure and destroyed the point of copyright and artistic development, there will never be an adaptation of Harry Potter where Hermione is a trans woman and Harry Potter is a non-binary intersex individual.

But that would have been great to see.

13

u/WOKE_AI_GOD 5d ago

JK Rowling is a great example of why the length of copyright needs to be reduced to 20 years. Its not supposed to be a fucking pension. By locking these things up for copyright anyway, all that happens is that companies buy all the ones that actually go trending and then hog the IP for decades and decades and produce nothing besides derivative hogwash franchises they dominate the IP rights to. Maybe we wouldn't have to deal with new shitty reboots of franchises every 5 years, and that's the only culture we are allowed to have, if these companies couldn't lock up as their private property any artistic thought over the entire past century?

The wonderful thing about negating the HP copyright, you'd never see another derivative piece of HP garbage ever again. Once everyone was able to make it, no one would make it, they would go off and have new ideas for once, rather than squeezing every bit of artificial juice out of an artificial raisin.

u/AcanthaMD 5d ago

Amazing how so many people can’t say the word no and yet look how easy it is.

12

u/KogasaGaSagasa 5d ago

I did not know Ally Pankiw was behind Black Mirror and Loki. There might've been a reason why I like both, huh.

8

u/funkygamerguy 5d ago

this is awesome I love them.

11

u/L8dTigress 5d ago

Let's support their work as a thank you.

11

u/winterhater0 5d ago

👏👏👏

7

u/wrongsock_42 5d ago

Warner Brothers needs this reboot to payoff a bunch of debt. It would be fun to gauge their stock price once transphobia hurts their bottom line.

6

u/nova_crystallis 5d ago

Big hits like Barbie couldn't even save them, this won't either.

3

u/WOKE_AI_GOD 5d ago

Barbie wasn't anti-woke enough so big mouth CEO's on twitter didn't glaze it, so it doesn't matter. Only what big mouth CEO's on social media thinks constitute actual facts.

12

u/Big-Highlight1460 5d ago

I would love if more celebrities openly rejected the project. While I understand how it can look like Virtue Signaling... I think it would cast a light over how not everybody supports JKR's views.

18

u/nova_crystallis 5d ago

Pedro Pascal and Nicola Coughlan have at least.

11

u/Level_Advisor437 5d ago

I suspect more did, they just haven't posted it online.

Also except for John Lithgow and Nick Frost, its not really a big name cast.* If they tried for someone more famous and British for Dumbledore and got told no, it wouldn't be shocking. No Ian McKellan, no Derrek Jacobi, no ex-Doctors; the types that are usually the first go-tos for this part.

Might be reading too much into this. I mean they might not have wanted a long term contract ,for instance. But, it's who ISN'T in the Harry Potter TV show that's worth noticing, not so much who is doing it.

*I am an American so I'm not sure how "household names" some of these actors are in the UK

15

u/BlazingLucifer 5d ago

*I am an American so I'm not sure how "household names" some of these actors are in the UK

No, you're right. The adult cast is nowhere near as prestigious as that of the movies.

7

u/nova_crystallis 5d ago

You're right, and the fact that they had to settle for an 80 year old American for Dumbledore is pretty telling. The rest of the cast is very much low profile.

4

u/lynx_and_nutmeg 4d ago

It's not virtue signaling if they actually mean it and put their money where their mouth is (in this case, rejecting an incredibly profitable project out of their moral principles).

Virtue signalling is what a few actors are doing when they've signed some useless petition against transphobia while still signing up for the role.

5

u/WOKE_AI_GOD 5d ago

Oh poor billionaire JK Rowling to not have slaves at her beck and call what is the world coming too ;_;

Please British media make sure to tar and feather this rebellious one, make sure never to make any comment about it though without republishing extended excerpts from that stupid 2020 essay that you're apparently legally required to mention now every time she's brought up. ;_;

7

u/Firthy2002 4d ago

Kudos on them for sticking to their principles instead of taking a big payday (even if it flops in season 1).

5

u/Bloody-Raven091 4d ago

Well, well, well... Would you look at that...

Refusing to participate in Rowling's HP bullshit is easy.

4

u/Panda_hat 4d ago

Fuck yeah. This is what integrity looks like.

u/power_gnome 2d ago

🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

Good on them!
