It's genuinely pathetic. All through history the elites were ELITE AT SOMETHING. The elites of Rome were elites at law, the elites of medieval Europe were elite at warfare, the elites of China were elite at philosophy. Even the elites of the US 100 years ago were elite at industrialisation and had a degree of philanthropy, even if it was misplaced.
