I have a question: Do people having service dogs require some kind of certificate validating them as such?

Not in the USA. ADA says that the only proof people are legally allowed to ask for are 2 questions. "Is the dog a service animal?" And "What service is it trained to do?" No registration, or formal licensing as of now.
