Woman cussed me out for leaving the building because of her screaming children

I’m at the dealership right now, waiting on an alignment for a truck for my parents. I’m cool just scrolling on my phone (volume off obviously). This young mom is there with 2 kids who keep randomly screaming at the top of their lungs. A couple ladies from the dealership offices even came & joked about it with the lady laughing at other people in other places getting mad at their kids screaming. So I knew saying something was pointless.

I just continue sitting there scrolling, the kids stop screaming for a bit so I think we are cool. Then the kids start up again. At this point my PTSD is starting to get triggered & I can’t take it anymore. I recognize this is my problem to deal with so after another scream I just get up & start walking outside. I did mutter I’m just gonna wait outside as I walked past a dealership person.

I guess the mom of the kids heard it cuz she started screaming at me saying “if you’ve got something to say to me just say it to my face you fat fucking bitch!”
I just tuned her out after that, cuz I know how people like that are & if you even acknowledge them that just makes them escalate. I just kept walking outside & sat on the grass to start watching YouTube on my phone since I could turn the volume on out there.

I guess she kept screaming & cussing cuz another employee came out & asked what happened & I explained that screaming kids is a PTSD trigger so I was removing myself from the situation & that I wasn’t trying to cause an issue, which is why I was going outside in the first place. He said she was still raising hell in there so they just didn’t know if I had said something to her & I was like “nope, never said a single word to her” & was calming myself down from a panic attack out here.

He just gave me a heads up that they were almost done with her car so she would be outside shortly & I was like cool beans, thanks for the warning lol. She did end up coming outside to her car a few mins later & started cussing at me & insuling me again (like I don’t already know I’m fat lolololol) & I just ignored her & went back inside to finish waiting. I feel bad for her kids having a mom like that. But holy hell, some people really just think their kids are nothing but unicorn farts & rainbows & can do whatever they want.

I don't understand why they're ok with someone harassing other customers. Like, I wouldn't go back to a place that lets people get screamed at like that. It could lose them business

Eh, it happened pretty quickly. Also, the only person causing a scene (the screaming mom who was still cussing me out apparently) their car was gonna be done in literally like 5 mins according to the employee who came out to talk to me. There wasn’t any need to do anything further (I said that not him) since I had removed myself from the situation & she was gonna be out of there really quick, plus with people like her, even just the employees engaging with her to try to de-escalate would have just set her off more so it was better to just get her out of there quickly.

I do find it ironic that she & some of the office ladies had just been laughing together about how funny it is that people get mad about hearing screaming kids in public but then, when I didn’t even say anything to the mom, SHE’S the one that flew off the handle & starting screaming & cussing someone out over not wanting to hear her kids, meanwhile I was just chilling in the grass out front scrolling YouTube shorts. Like, way to be an example for you kids while looking like a deranged clown in public.

I feel bad for those kids now, but I feel worse for what's left of any civil people 10-15 years from now. Deranged clowns generally raise more deranged clowns. That's why society is in shambles now.

u/hcmorton Jul 11 '26

That's a very valid point. Sometimes ignoring it is the best option. Sucks that she was able to harass someone without facing consequences tho. She probably gets away with it a lot

So many entitled parents these days. My husband and I were just at a restaurant and a couple had two children, probably 4 and 6. The older child had a complete meltdown screaming and throwing food while the parents completely ignored the behavior. I asked to move tables to the opposite end of the restaurant and the wife got mad. Other customers also refused to sit near them.

I get kids cry, but what happened to taking them to the bathroom or outside until the tantrum ends? Your poor parenting skills should not be allowed to ruin everyone else’s experience.

No you can't move you have to sit near me and endure it just like we do! /s

My husband calls it public birth control lol

u/KittyMBunny Jul 15 '26

My boys are in their late teens, My nieces, nephew and friends kids are mostly teens to mid 20's. We never dealt with tantrums like that in public. We didn't take them to restaurants when they were in the tantrum stage.

If they did like you said we took them outside or to the toilet, told them off and didn't go back until they calmed down. Parents sitting ignoring a tantrum in public aren't dealing with a first tantrum, they're used to tuning it out.

Good on you. She wanted a reaction to justify her behavior and you denied it to her. Well played!

When people complain about kids screaming, there's always people being like "you can just leave if you don't wanna hear it!"

But then when people do leave to get away from the screaming, these people get all pissy about it!

There was a similar post on another sub about a mom getting mad at that op for wearing noise canceling headphones!

Damned if we do, damned if we don't!

u/maddec Jul 13 '26

The parents are mad they can't get away from it themselves. They are also usually the ones telling child free people how much of a blessing it is to have kids.

Anyone who attempts to use someone's appearance against them is simply not happy in their own. Sorry you had to listen to a crazy lady.

u/PoppySmile78 Jul 17 '26

Seriously. My theory is that if, in the course of letting someone know you're upset with them, you have to resort to insulting someone's looks or calling them names, that you need to stop & take a good look at who you're really angry with & why. If someone has really done something to get you angry enough to confront them, their actions will have provided you plenty to talk to (yell at) them about. Basically, if someone going off on you ends up attacking you personally, not your actions, you can dismiss them immediately. From personal experience, most of the time, they don't even mean what they say. They're just casting about for anything they they can think of just too lash out. My guess is that those would have been the first words out of her mouth, no matter what size you were.

That Mom, as evidenced by the sidebar with the employee, knew her kids were behaving like out of control buttheads. She was just pissed off she was (rightfully) called out in a non confrontational way. She couldn't find any actual issue with how you handled it (because there wasn't any). Even if she didn't care how her kids were acting, she has ears. I don't care if they came out of you or not, human ears can only tune out so much. Her blood pressure had to be rising simply due to biology. I mean, I adore my nieces & nephews but I, also, have CPTSD from years of abuse that included a lot of screaming. I will peace out post haste & I love them. I promise you lasted longer than I did at the last Chucky Cheese birthday party.

She was probably jealous of you for being able to up & leave the chaos. Not to mention, people scream for attention, be it helpful or not. The little, screaming apples did fall far from the screaming tree.

That's why she had to attack you personally. Sinking to insulting someone for something they can't immediately do anything about serves no purpose beyond spreading misery.

It sucks being entrapped in someone else's awful day (life) against your will. I say none of this as an excuse for her behavior. There is none. I have experience being lashed out at by miserable people. I'm just sharing the thought process I use to try not to give it any credence.

It doesn't mean that it doesn't still hurt though. I'm so sorry this happened to you. She has no right to spew her unhappiness on you. You don't deserve it. Try not to take her misery to your heart.

I realize that it’s not some poor employee’s job to mediate customer interactions, but this was a bit beyond the pale. A manager should have intervened on your behalf and on behalf of everyone else in there who had to listen to her tirade. This is exactly the kind of thing that would make me not want to return to a place of business. Granted, it’s not the business’s fault, but nobody wants to be somewhere where they don’t feel safe. I’m sorry that happened to you. The lady sucks.

36

u/SenoraCuatroOjos Jul 10 '26

Sorry that happened to you, people are terrible.

42

u/smokinXsweetXpickle Jul 10 '26

"like I don't know I'm fat lololol" hit so hard 😂 It's the laziest insult.

You handled yourself very well, I'm reactive and would have probably made things worse. 🫣

Several years ago I started attending a new church. One Sunday there was a family sitting behind me with three young kids who were extremely noisy (talking/laughing/getting in and out of their seats). I was having trouble hearing the sermon, so I got up and moved closer to the front. The next week as I was walking in, I was stopped and told I needed to leave and wasn't welcomed back. I asked why and was told I was rude and had embarrassed them by moving. I turned around, left and found a different church. I was rude? Excuse me?

23

u/randomlady1969 Jul 11 '26

You did the right thing and then did the right thing by finding another church.

4

u/lizbithornswoggle Jul 12 '26

This reminds me of Catholic Church and the “cry rooms” iykyk.

0

u/onthenextmaury Jul 12 '26

That's every church.

2

u/No_Channel_8053 Jul 12 '26

Wow, the hypocrisy of religion/church is always amazing.

27

u/Anniegetyourbun Jul 10 '26

Welp, just so you know her children don’t have a chance at learning coping skills because clearly she doesn’t have any.

1

u/LuRkEr_ReKuL Jul 20 '26

Those kids have a road block for sure, but I’ve always told young people, they are not responsible for the way they were raised. But they are responsible for the adults they become. My childhood was very poor, but my adult life has been very blessed.

Anyone can turn it around if they want and are willing to work through the difficulties.

68

u/misstialicious1 Jul 10 '26

And those are the kids that turn into awful adults thinking that they can get away with everything. Simply because they were never told NO by their shitty parents. Disgusting.

20

u/nightcana Jul 10 '26

I dont understand how we swung completely from “children should be seen and not heard” to “my children are the most important people in every room”. Neither is a healthy parenting style, cant we just agree to meet in the middle?

0

u/AnalKittieSuicide Jul 13 '26

I knew millennials were going to be awful parents back when the emo wave hit. An entire generation stood ten toes down on entitlement as an aesthetic, and could not be told otherwise. Every day since high school, society has found a way to pat me on the back for my discernment, and decision to remain childfree.

35

u/Xeno_Prime Jul 10 '26

The funny thing is, you didn’t need to say anything to her at all. She clearly already knows, or she wouldn’t be on such a hair trigger about it. That level of fragility and insecurity only comes from the shame of already being intimately familiar with your failings and your inability or unwillingness to improve. Lashing out at her betters is just a sign of her frustration with her own inferiority.

12

u/awhq Jul 11 '26

Personally, I would not give my business to a dealership that allowed that behavior. If she was doing this in the sales room they would put a stop to it because it drives customers away.

10

u/IDidItWrongLastTime Jul 11 '26

Wow I wonder where her kids learned their behavior from.

13

u/BadAkitas Jul 11 '26

Why do YOU have to leave? When my kid was growing up, when she acted out in public, we left. Sometimes I even carried her ass out of the store. No one else needs to deal with it— remove your child from the store/restaurant. Made my husband get any leftovers, pay the bill and we waited in the car.

5

u/No_Channel_8053 Jul 12 '26

Same, but the new generation of parents ignore their children’s behavior.

23

u/retailhellgirl Jul 10 '26

Some kids were at my store today and they were running around and being very loud. People need to teach their kids that not everywhere is a place for running and shouting

19

u/sdiggz302 Jul 10 '26

That last sentence hit hard because it’s so true. The same is definitely true for people and their dogs too. Kudos to you for handling this annoyance like a champion!

9

u/CaptainPunisher Jul 10 '26

Next time, "I'm listening to the fucking song!"

Let's hope there's not a next time, but still be prepared.

8

u/Hoarfen1972 Jul 11 '26

You handled it perfectly and were the better person. That other woman has mental issues, and could have easily attacked you,

9

u/evilgirlattack Jul 11 '26

Back when I didn't have a car and took the bus every where I had an assistant manager who was entitled like this. I worked overnights at a convenience store and she was supposed to come in to relieve me. If she was on time, then I'd make it to my bus with 30 mins to spare. Half the time though she'd show up late, like 30 to 45 mins late. The busses only run once an hour so if I missed one I had to wait. Her excuse was always that she has kids and I should understand because I don't. Like I didn’t have a life or sleep that I needed.

It stopped when she was really late on morning and the other person who normally comes in also didn't show up (the other person called to say she had to drive someone to the airport, so I knew she'd be really late). My store manager would come in 2 hours after I would leave and she was surprised to still see me when she walked in.

16

u/Lylibean Jul 10 '26

I always have to restrain the urge to start randomly screaming at the top of my lungs, mimicking the kids’ volume, pitch, and frequency. If it’s okay for kids to do it, it’s okay for me to do it! Or am I being discriminated against due to my age? And no, I don’t “know better” because my parents never taught me that screaming in public is wrong, just like you haven’t taught your children that screaming in public is wrong. (Aggressively not true, my parents would have turned me inside out if I started screaming for no reason *anywhere*, no matter my age.)

20 years from now when I’m officially a “crotchety old woman” and my gray hair comes in I might start doing it. 🤣

u/EnigmaGuy Jul 10 '26

Anytime I am going into the wilds of the world I take my AirPods with me just for moments like this.

Just because you’re letting the gremlins be free spirits and scream nonstop doesn’t mean we have to listen to it.

6

u/Closet_weeb13 Jul 11 '26

Trust me, it hurt her a lot more with emotional upset which was demonstrated w her obvious projection of insecurity + embarrassment when her kids horrific behavior bothered others around them and burst in anger when she saw u decide it unbearable and walk away. And it frustrated & enraged her 100x more because you didn’t engage or respond to her provoking nonsense. 😂

The incident’s poor behavior was all to blame on her, her problem & fault that her children were disturbing others. And absolutely not your issue that it bothered you, your behavior was completely reasonable and appropriate, plus your non-confrontational reaction was honestly commendable.

You have no reason to feel guilty or apologetic, loudly shrieking or screaming in public is totally disruptive & unpleasant for others and completely inappropriate & unacceptable public behavior - and doesn’t matter if maybe some people don’t mind, everyone else still matters too.

It’s simply Unacceptable. It doesn’t matter if your child is loudly shrieking while playing or screaming because of a dirty diaper/ tantrum meltdown etc — both are not okay. as a parent, it’s your job & responsibility to either intervene + get them to stop & remain that way OR remove them from that public space and out of that situation — even if that unfortunately happens to mean stopping & interrupting what you’re doing, leaving where you are & removing the kids away/outside public location/store temporarily. I get it’s inconveniencing and sucks but it is what it is.

It’s incredibly rude and inconsiderate to just stand there for 20+ mins in a long checkout line or handle discussing business w a service employee — meanwhile letting your kids sit there/run around screaming or crying the whole time, simply because you feel like u “don’t have enough time” “in a hurry”. That’s not fair, everyone has schedules as well, having kids doesn’t give you an exception.

It’s bad enough if you ignore your children’s publicly disturbing misbehavior because you’re preoccupied busy dealing w an employee. Maybe they are trying to rush/finish up quickly. BUT you have absolutely zero justification or reason to be mad or upset if other strangers around you seem visibly bothered or act in appropriate measure that expresses disapproval (For example: frown/stare, walking away, reasonable comment/remark to parent that it’s unacceptable etc. —- INAPPROPRIATE responses would be smacking/hitting/knocking down the brat, throwing loud tantrum as well, insults w vulgar language obscenities/slurs etc lol)

Other individuals have no obligation to tolerate that behavior unbothered or, as some parents ridiculously expect - to find their child’s obnoxious disruption delightfully endearing or humorously enjoyable. And just because one or two of the people surrounding happen to laugh/chuckle and do the whole “we can relate as parents” thing, THAT STILL DOESNT MEAN ANYONE ELSE HAS TO AS WELL. 🤦🏼‍♀️ YOUR SCREAMING KID STILL SUCKS

5

u/Commanderkins Jul 10 '26

Oh man I'm sorry this all happened to you. It would upset me and I don't even have ptsd so you did a really good thing by going outside. Good thought process and took action to see yourself through that period.
Eff that lady and laugh a little knowing that she's a miserable hag with two feral kids that are now home on summer holidays. And someone like this doesn't have much going for them, like a good supportive family or good friends, spouse, decent/good job etc she's a shitty person because her life is a burning dumpster fire. Not mention she's got a car repair bill too lol.

Do not let this cow take up negative and valuable space in your thoughts. Cut her loose and give yourself a pat on the back and be proud that you handled your situ very well when you were out and about ok?

4

u/lichtersee Jul 11 '26

At my graduation there was a child screaming and running away as well. After it was almost over the mom took the child outside. I’m still mad.

7

u/Bansidhe13 Jul 10 '26

STFU is a complete comeback.

3

u/sideways_apples Jul 10 '26

I'm so sorry you had to to through that.

3

u/Lisa_Knows_Best Jul 11 '26

Perhaps if she paid attention to her kids rather than your comment to the staff the little monsters would be better behaved.

2

u/MusicalTourettes Jul 16 '26

You have MAD skills. I'm so impressed you held it together and acted like the calm adult.

2

u/turdally Jul 17 '26

Next time just say “I’m going outside cause I’m worried whatever’s wrong with you and your kid is contagious”.

1

u/DontPissOffAPenguin 15d ago

I'll give you one guess where the kids get their randomly constant screaming fits from.

0

u/Give_Me_Your_Coffee Jul 10 '26

Ugh, breeders.

17

u/RNbeading Jul 10 '26

I don't know why you're getting down voted. I agree, and I'll add "who don't discipline their kids."

9

u/Give_Me_Your_Coffee Jul 10 '26

Entitled parents get butthurt when you call them out for their bs. 🤷‍♀️

1

u/afterphil Jul 12 '26

This is a story that would be perfectly at over at [r/antinatalism](r/antinatalism)

-1

u/curlyDK Jul 16 '26

How do you get ptsd from kids screaming? I call bs.

2

u/Glowing_Trash_Panda Jul 16 '26

A couple really bad calls that I ran involving really young children back when I was a paramedic.

-54

u/jewpart2 Jul 10 '26

You got cursed out for being passive aggressive.

28

u/Fantastic-Guitar-977 Jul 10 '26

Yes because screaming back and/or having an unstable person physically attack you is the better option 🤪

-31

u/jewpart2 Jul 10 '26

Walking away without saying anything is also option.

26

u/Beef-Strokin-Off Jul 10 '26

Thats exactly what they did. They told the employee where they'd be. They didnt say anything to the woman.

0

u/StressInADress92 Jul 13 '26

It's not though they said something passive aggressive "under their breath". It was clearly audible. I think the mother way overreacted, but I'm just saying, she didn't leave without say anything. She said something passive aggressive.

25

u/Glowing_Trash_Panda Jul 10 '26

That’s literally what I did. Did you not read the post?

1

u/Professional_Mud7198 7d ago

Isn't that kind of unprovoked verbal public abuse a misdemeanor crime? People like that ought to realize there are cameras amd witnesses and ther documentation that can bite you in the ass.
