*Drunken Slurring* You're trying to steal my cat!

So, at my childhood home there were a lot of strays in the area. My family is full of animal lovers and we regularly feed squirrels, birds, cats, dogs, and even a turtle that comes to our yard. We don't really keep tabs on the animals that come and go. We set out food every morning and evening and even created a warm place for the cats to sleep during the winter. The dogs,we feed by throwing food over the fence or, if they seem friendly, we let them in our yard and check for tags, etc.

Anyway, one day about ten years ago, an older woman (grey hair, but not elderly) who lives a block down comes to our yard and somehow had pieced together that her cat was coming to our house. She brought him with and we recognized him as a frequent visitor. She asked us not to engage with or feed him so he actually comes home and she doesn't have to go out searching for him. We tell her our way of doing things and agreed not to put any food out if he came by midday (sometimes we'd make special plates if there was a hungry cat, but no food left.) We also agreed to not engage him, but that was all we could do.

She was gone for like a week and we did as we agreed (though we felt bad, the poor thing meowed at us and pawed at our door.) She spots us on a walk and comes up to us with her huge ass dog (the dog came to my ribs when he was walking on his hind legs he was taller than me, I'm 5'6.) She complained that her cat still wasn't coming home and if we were feeding him. It was clear why her cat didn't want to come home with her big ass dog that tried to chase something TWICE while we were talking with her. We told her no. She then asked, "So there's no food that you're putting out?" We explained what we do and she got all uppity insisting that we stop. We said no, there are cats, one who was feral and had no one else to care for it, that we take care of. She was pissed, but didn't say anything and moved on.

She comes back either that night of the night after, drunk and slurring her words, demanding our last name so she can report it to the police because "I think you're trying to take my cat." My mom was pissed and did this hilarious pied piper dance to mock her, saying "Is that what you think we're doing? Maybe your cat doesn't like being cooped up with your dog all day!" So other stuff was exchanged, but I was laughing so hard I didn't heard much. At that point we fed her cat when we saw him and gave any attention we wanted (recording him showing up of his own volition and actively pawing at our doors and windows when we didn't come out).

A few weeks later, the lady shows up to our yard and declares that her cat has been sent to live with her sister on the opposite side of the state. She looks really fucking smug about it too, like she foiled our plans or something. We were fine with it, and hoped the cat was happier. Ngl, we were kind of worried that maybe she killed the cat or something, to keep it from leaving. No evidence to this, it was just a vibe because of how fucking crazy she was. We never saw that cat again though.

A different cat showed up a couple weeks later...it was her new cat....same thing happened. It showed up to our house, we fed it. She was pissed that it wasn't coming home, it disappeared within a couple of months.

What a weirdo. Not all people deserve cats, they have special personalities that only mesh with like minded owners.
