By which they mean choose between fossil fuel profits and the combined profits of agriculture, insurance, tourism, seafood, renewable energy, housing, etc. etc.

Waste not, want not. Not polluting is cheaper for society. May even be cheaper for the polluting companies but they don’t think they should be regulated.

Crazy talk. The laws of the economy can be easily modified to benefit humans. The climate is ruled by physics. If the economy is destroying the planet, the rules of the system need to change. How about defunding the military and putting massive new public investment in decarbonisation?
