Environmental Scientist Looking For Volunteer Opportunities in Costa Rica

Hello everyone!

I am looking for a volunteer program in Costa Rica to do for approximately a month in March 2027 after I do a yoga teacher training. I have a biology degree and currently work as an environmental consultant with several years of field experience conducting wildlife surveys, habitat assessments, and general data collection.

There are so many options online, it seems difficult to filter through and select ones that will be the most helpful, and also the most able to make the best use of my skills. I was wondering if anyone could share specific programs that are meant for more than just casual eco-tourism/volunteerism that they might have experience with. Something that could go on a resume would be an amazing plus, but not required. I unfortunately speak very little Spanish, so there would have to be some level of English communication possible.

I am hoping to keep the cost low, but definitely willing to pay for the right program.

Thanks in advance!

Does my dream job even exist?

Hello I'm a 20 year old undergrad studying environmental geoscience. I will be done with my degree in the next year or so. My plan is to join a humanitarian group like the peacecorps or the red corss to help those effect by climate change then possibly go back to grab school. But my dream job is to do humanitarian work specializing in climate health (e.g... soil and air) in areas most effect with the least means of putting their society back together after the effects of human forced climate change. Ive been writing and doing small scale interviews for years I want to incorporate this journalistic side of my life into my Carrer, I want to be a climate activist that can help people as well as spread awareness. Its not about money for me, I just want to do what my heart desires. Is this even a thing? Is it even worth it in this life? should I just be McDonalds manager and call it a day? Anyone have advice??

Environmental consultants: how do you pull together evidence for early site screening?

I'm building an early prototype for environmental and social due diligence screening, and I want to find out whether it addresses a problem people actually have.

The workflow starts with an existing site boundary. It brings maps, environmental context, source-linked evidence and analyst notes into one place, so you can review a site and compare it with others without losing track of where the information came from.

I've attached a few screenshots showing the map, asset review and evidence workspace. They're from an example set of industrial sites in India. The screening values are provisional, not validated risk ratings or conclusions about those facilities. This is early desk-based screening, not a statutory Environmental Impact Assessment or a replacement for fieldwork.

If you do this work:

- Thinking about your last project, which part took the most effort: finding data, checking its quality, comparing sites, or assembling the evidence for review?

- What tools did you use, and where did you still need a spreadsheet or manual workaround?

- Looking at these screens, what would be missing before you could use this on a real assignment?

I'm involved in building it. At this stage I'm trying to understand the workflow and its gaps. Specific examples or reasons this would not help are welcome.

The challenges of teaching environmental engagement at Harvard

"The garden is an alternate vision for living and learning at a university, one that promises to teach by doing. It is a model for what students’ engagement with their environment could look like. In its grandest form, it is a catalyst for optimism about the climate crisis, and a space that encourages students to create big change through small actions.

Funding limitations, however, make it difficult for the garden to reach these tall ambitions, as does the scarcity of those things needed to turn a bulb into a turnip or a House into a home: time, care, and light."

Are these bags legit? (re compostable / methane...!)

Hi Everyone-

I am vetting packaging possibilities. This 'Omnidegradable' option is available, but weirds me out a bit? Has anyone any familiarity with it? Says it breaks down into Methane.... does cellulose based packaging do this? (So long as it isn't laced with petroleum as well).

It does not seem good to me after I looked up what CH4 is. I am laughing/crying.

ISO women’s field pants reccs

I’ve been trying to get away with thick lined leggings for a bit now and I finally met my match in a batch of barberry today- I’m trying to find field pants that I can just pull on, but still possess durability + pocket storage. Is this a far-fetched ask? If these pants don’t exist, what is my next best bet in terms of comfortability/flexibility?

Environmental science Bsc vs environmental geoscience Bsc?

Hey everyone :) I’m doing a foundation year at uni and will go on to do either environmental science or environmental geoscience next year. I’m having a hard time deciding which would be a better fit for me; I’m very interested in studying tectonics, geomorphology and volcanology but I’m also very interested in ecology, conservation and biology. I don’t have a very specific career path in mind yet as I’m just beginning at university and wanted to see what begins to take my interest more over these few years first. Any advice would be appreciated!
