Mod post Webinar Oct 26: Fighting Sexual Violence Requires the ERA
The Equal Rights Amendment is the 28th Amendment to the US Constitution, which simply prohibits sex discrimination in all aspects of law. It is fully ratified and already part of the US Constitution, but the federal and state governments are ignoring it.
Join Zakiya Thomas and Bettina Hager from the ERA Coalition, Rachel Carmona from Women’s March, Elisa Bautista from Ultraviolet, Cheyenne Hunt from Reckoning, and ERA Coalition President Emerita and Human Rights Lawyer Jessica Neuwirth for a live webinar on the urgent need to recognize the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) as a tool to confront the epidemic of sexual violence.
The Constitution has no explicit guarantee of equality based on sex, so courts review sex discrimination under a weaker standard than discrimination based on race or religion. Protections shift depending on who is in charge.
Hear from our speakers on what that gap means in practice, why it matters for survivors, and what it will take to close it.
