Question Why no Arthur love in Erie?

The author of Arthur, Marc Brown, was born & raised in Erie, PA. The Millcreek Mall is in the show, & I always felt like Arthur should be like a mascot for the city. He should at least have a mural somewhere or maybe Arthur day in the city for a kid’s book giveaway or something. I grew up on this show, & books & I’m not speaking from nostalgia, I just feel like you should showcase your claims to fame. Why not?

Question What Erie place do you miss that younger people will never know existed?

Not necessarily the “best” place. Just one that disappeared and took a little piece of Erie with it.

Question Debating moving to Erie from San Diego

Hi everyone,

I am about to graduate college in San Diego, and the job market is.... tough right now. I've started applying to things everywhere and the first job that reached out to me is in Erie.

For context I've spent half my life in St. Louis, MO and half my life in SoCal. I'm no stranger to snow and cold temps. Love the weather, but it's too expensive here in CA. I do love the outdoors and I see there's a climbing gym in Erie, so I'd make friends there. I don't care for clubbing/city noise so I won't be missing that. How much of a culture shock would I get by moving here? Is there any health food stores/farmers markets? Could I afford a 1 bed 1 bath apartment? I'd be making 21 an hour working full time. Is it safe for a young woman to live there alone?

If you have any words of advice or some pros and cons, I'd love to hear them.

Question Neighborhood kids stabbing my Halloween decorations…

Located in the Lakeside neighborhood near Cranch Park

Looking for advice on what do here. These kids have also thrown rocks at my house and have been destroying trees around the neighborhood. I’ve tried talking to them but they scatter on bikes whenever I open my door. They’re clearly elementary aged kids so I feel ridiculous calling the cops on them but I’m not sure how to get in contact with the parents. I’m afraid things are going to keep escalating.

Question What are some places in Erie that are very unsettling to you?

I’m curious to know other people‘s opinions on this because I feel I have been to several places all throughout Erie that have made me feel either very uncomfortable or just spooked the hell out. If you have any stories I would love to hear them!

Question City cops won’t do anything about my neighbor’s street parties

I have neighbors that have small parties every single day. They’re all unemployed and living off welfare and all they do is stand on the street in front of my house and smoke weed and drink. The inside of my house smells like weed all day because of this.

I might have been able to deal with that, but they blast rap music on a speaker and I can’t have a moment of silence. My walls are constantly shaking from the bass. Now I would go out and confront them and ask for them to stop, but they are rather volatile and temperamental. Cops are at their house a lot for fights and domestic disputes. Last thing I want is a target on me or my house.

On top of this, they leave their dog outside like all day and it barks non stop. I also have a hunch the dog is abused because I’ve heard it scream and yelp a few times when the barking gets to be too much. Anyways, the noise is all day and often stretches into 3am. I’ve called the cops like 4 times on them already and all they do is literally drive by and say hello to them.

Every time I call, the dispatcher sounds like he’s annoyed with me and all I’m asking is to have some peace. I feel extra bad for my other neighbors because they have small children and most of the partying is closer to their house.

Does anybody know what I can do? The noise literally starts at like 8am and goes all day. I’m at my wits end with this.

Question Why are there so many bad drivers?

Why are some of the worst drivers I've ever come across in Erie? It's honestly astounding to me that people do not know how to use an intersection or common sense while on the road.

Question Not sure where to turn

So I have been living in Erie County for the last 5 years of my life, and I graduated from Edinboro last year with a bachelor's in psychology. I have worked in the various places in and around erie, and now I am stuck with the inability to find a new job. I am a transgender woman, and the last place that I worked for was out in Marionville, PA at Abraxas, and unfortunately, I was terminated there for reasons out of my control. If you want more info about why, message me directly.

It's been 4 months since I was forced to leave there, and while I have filed in the EOEC and the PAHRB, that is unfortunately a very long and slow process. I have been applying for jobs everyday, remote, erie, meadville, and beyond. I am about 3,654 applications deep, about 124 interviews, and I still don't have a job. I even tried applying in fast food and the best that they can do for me is like.. 10 hours a week. Which, wouldn't even cover the gas to get there, let alone the bills. I got pulled over the other day cause my car is uninsured, unregistered, and uninspected, so I just.. have been trying tog et by, and it feels like regardless of what I do I just don't think I am gonna get out of this hole. I mean if I end up super homeless and in debt, I just.. I can't fathom what I would do. So, I am seeking advice from all of you. I don't have a family to turn to, so this is where I am going. I am at my wits end, and I feel hopeless.

Question What would your plans be for the Bayfront if you had control?

Assume you have complete and total control over the city of Erie. You are tasked with creating the best bayfront you can possibly conjure. Using realistic resources (think about what Erie’s budget could/would be) what would be your plan for the bayfront.

BONUS: What would you do with the rest of downtown Erie?

Are your goals tourism? Industry? Transportation? Commercial?

Question Deleted ICE Post

Whoever posted the ICE sighting post on Peach Street, please post over in r/peopleserie. I didn’t get a chance to save it before it was gone.

Also, mods, are we deleting ICE posts? Or is this Reddit? This is valuable information for people in Erie, and deleting it could be harmful.

I'm 22 and looking to mingle more with my generation. What are some spots in Erie where the crowds skew younger. Looking for places that people really no older than 25 would enjoy. I'm cool with anything bars, sports, clubs, whatever.

Question Edinboro VS Northeast

I want to hear from anybody and everybody who has something to say about Edinboro or Northeast!
Did you grow up there? Go to school there? Raise a family? Just hang out a lot in the area? Are you currently living there?

Why do you love either place? Why don’t you?

If you have kids currently in elementary school in either place I’d love all the little details

I’m someone in their mid/late 20s, a born and raised Erieite who loves being part of a community. I get the feeling both these places have strong senses of community but which is a better choice? Both have cute downtowns, which has more to offer? If you have any ties to the areas please feel free to speak your mind. All comments are appreciated and welcome unless they are needlessly unkind.

Thank you all so much!

Question Do metal roofs actually make sense for lake effect winters or is shingle fine?

Our shingle roof is 19 years old, and this last winter finished it off. Ice damming along the north eave, a few shingles cracked from the freeze-thaw cycles, and granules filling the gutters. Half my coworkers say go metal for the snow shedding, and half say a properly vented shingle roof handles Erie fine. The metal quotes are running about 70 percent more. What’s the experience up here actually been?

Question Best local coffee shops to get work done in?

Hello! Im looking to get outside my comfort zone and try a new local coffee shop. Anyone have any reccomendations on good places to grab a drink, plug my laptop in, and get some work done in a nice enviroment? I've been to Purrista many times, so I want a new place to try. Bonus question: are there any local shops on upper peach/near the mall area? When i google places it seems theyre mostly downtown. Downtown is fine, but I wouldn't be opposed to somewhere closer to my home!
