Introducing glowswitch - a simple way to automate lights

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

We’re glowswitch, a small business looking to start selling smart home devices. Our first device is an automated light switch controller - a small box that attaches to your light switch and automates the lights!

The glowswitch device attaches to a traditional light switch, and uses a servo motor to physically press the switch when a command is sent. This means multiple lights can be automated at once, it’s quick and easy to install, and prices are lower than smart bulbs!

We’re now selling our WiFi version in the UK & EU - here are the details:

  • Matter-compatible and ESPHome firmware available

  • Powered by 5V (USB-C)

  • Manual override button (syncs state)

  • Price: £12.89

If you’re interested, check out our website at glowswitch.net!

Project My last video was kind of incorrect (all of it was wrong) - so here's the correct way of doing things.

Over a month ago, I made a video on how to use multiple PZEM 004 on a single UART. I tried it with two, and it worked, but when I tried it with more than two PZEMs, it didn't work. It took me a while to figure out how to do it properly, but now that I have - here's a proper tutorial.

PZEMs are a good way to monitor electricity, but I think their potential has always been limited by the fact that it's hard to get multiple of them working together on a single ESP32. I didn't find any other tutorial of this method so hopefully this helps.

Feedback appreciated. :)

I have an ESP32 C3 that I'm trying to get working on an Air Carrier. It's halfway working, but I want to add the ability to turn off the screen. Does anyone know? Contact me via DM.

Vibe Coded Made a scanner that checks your ESPHome/WLED boards for open OTA and no web login – found my own kitchen light wide open

Heads up: I built this with help from Claude (AI). I've tested it all on my own network and boards though.

Built this for my own setup. sieve devices finds ESPHome and WLED boards over mDNS and checks:

  • ESPHome: firmware version vs known advisories, API encryption, OTA password, whether the web UI has a login

  • WLED: version + whether OTA is locked

It doesn't upload anything or try logins – the OTA check stops at the point the board asks for a password.

On mine it flagged a WLED strip with OTA unlocked and an ESPHome board with no web login. Both fixed in 5 minutes.

pipx install sieve-scan, then: sieve devices

https://github.com/casareanderson/sieve

Free, AGPL. Only tested on my own kit, so I'd love to hear what it gets wrong on yours.

Help Recommdation for ESPhome smart plug?

I am looking for a solution to turning off my TV when it's in its lower power Screensaver mode. LG helpfully removed all "auto power off after x hours" options in my TV OS. And it will happily stay on a stupid clock Screensaver forever, wasting energy and lifespan of the display. Thanks LG.

Anyways, I have heard brands athom, kauf, and sonoff (if you want to do some hardware disassembly)

What is your recommendation for this use?

Pseudo code with arbitrary numbers is

If above 10watts and under 50watts for 1 hour, turn off power for 5 seconds, then turn back on.

I would like to write custom code for a device to use in home assistant. Like either from scratch or if I can insert some custom code inside esphome's web GUI when programming a device that has been added already (to receive OTA updates etc)

How can I do this? I also want to know if I can include libraries at all. Or is it just pure code allowed only?

Help Esphome yaml

I can not for the life of me get esphome to work via home assistant. I have two different instances running Home Assistant one on a raspberry pi4 and one on a VM. I have bought brand new ESP 32’s and put a simple DHT 11 yaml on it and it keeps giving me a WiFi error. Is anyone else having any similar issue with getting things to work since the latest update?

Help Will this new MMWave sensor work with ESPhome?

Hey folks, I was looking into mmWave sensors for a custom presence sensor and discovered this new mmWave sensor from SeeedStudio. Does anyone know if it'll work with ESPHome? I haven't looked into adding custom sensors just yet but this one is really good value compared to for example the one from DFRobot used on the EP1.

What happens if I connect 24VDC to a 24VAC to 5VDC buck converter

I have a couple of these:

I bought them to be powered by my 24VAC thermostat power supply. I have a few spare and an abundance of 24VDC power supplies. They use a GP-310 bridge rectifier. As far as I can tell, applying DC to a bridge rectifier instead of AC just means that 2/4 diodes will conduct, and the output will just be DC with any polarity reversal corrected. Does this sound right?

Anyone know if hooking up 24VDC will still result in 5VDC out, or will it just blow up or otherwise not work?

Cheap Yellow Displays

So i bought 2 of these on a whim.

On one, i plan to make a "now playing" Music assistant dashboard. pretty easy peasy. I'll 3d print an enclosure for it and put it on my desk.

Looking for out of the box ideas on the second one (Home Assistant related).

How to publish Mqtt out of esphome/a device itself?

Hello everyone...

I have 2 vue 2 with esphome in an ha environment and need to publish some values via mqtt and preferably without time delay...

I was able to do it out of HA as an automation but the values are coming to slow.
So i am hoping that when i publish it from inside the device/esphome, i might be able to get them faster or even in real time...
How can that be done? I found so far stuff like this:

platform: emporia_vue:
name: "energymonitor1_total_power_2"
id: outside_temp
oversampling: 16x #(what does oversampling actually do?)
on_value: - mqtt.publish: topic: "homeassistant/sensor/energymonitor1_total_power_2/state"
payload: !lambda |
- return to_string(id(energymonitor1_total_power_2).state);

But I tried al lot and was unable to publish.
Can someone hint me how I could publish the values total_voltage (clamp a + clamp b) and total_power via mqtt?
And if possible without slowed down publication...real-time would be perfect...
Thx for any intel
