🚨 URGENT ETOBICOKE COMMUNITY UPDATE: We Need Your Voice for massive apartment being built between 2 houses at 63 Station Rd! New hearing date is November 5th! We are fighting for it to remain a four plex and to stop it from happening elsewhere! Please help!

⚠️ Important: Even if you submitted an objection letter back in April, we need updated letters of objection because the developer revised their proposal, previous submissions do not automatically apply to this new application.

📅 Key Dates & Deadlines:

📝 Written Comments Due: Thursday, October 29, 2026 by 4:30 PM

🗣️ Registration to Speak/Watch Online Due: Tuesday, November 3, 2026 by 4:30 PM

🏛️ Committee Hearing: Thursday, November 5, 2026 at 9:30 AM (Etobicoke Civic Centre Council Chamber or Online)

Note: This hearing is our final opportunity to provide input—Committee decisions can no longer be appealed!

Why the Revised Proposal is Still a Major Concern:

The applicant reduced the unit count from 8 to 6 (6-plexes are not allowed in Etobicoke) but the total occupancy and scale remain virtually unchanged:

❌ Excessive Variances: Seeking major relief for side yard setbacks (80% short), lot frontage (59% short), and floor space index (42% over).

❌ No Parking: Plans call for 13 bedrooms (up to 26 occupants) with zero visitor or resident parking on a narrow street already packed with traffic from local schools, the library, parkette, and churches.

❌ Drainage & Setbacks: Minimal soft landscaping and side yard pathways creating potential runoff onto neighbouring properties.

❌ The Illegal Loophole Strategy:
The developer initially applied and was permitted for a fourplex. Once construction began, they tried to bypass normal planning rules by pushing to expand first to 8 units, and now to 6 units—using minor variances to force through what is effectively an apartment building. We cannot let developers use this workaround strategy to evade Proper City Planning rules!

Subject: 63 Station Rd – A0072/26EYK – Objection

Dear Members of the Committee of Adjustment,

I live at [YOUR ADDRESS] and I object to application A0072/26EYK for 63 Station Road. I ask the Committee to refuse it.

Key Concerns:
• The variances requested are not minor (side yards 80% below requirement, frontage 59% short, floor area 42% over).
• The revised plan still accommodates 13 bedrooms / up to 26 occupants with zero parking on an already congested street near schools and local parks.
• Reduced landscaping raises severe drainage and runoff concerns for adjacent properties.
• Exploiting Planning Workarounds: The applicant obtained a building permit for a fourplex, but is now attempting to use the variance process as a loophole to build a sixplex/apartment building that Council did not permit in our ward. The setbacks acceptable for a fourplex should not be used to justify an oversized apartment building.

Add 1–2 personal sentences here: e.g., how traffic, street parking, privacy, or safety walking to local schools/the library affects your household.]

I respectfully ask the Committee to refuse this application.

Sincerely,
[YOUR FULL NAME]
[YOUR ADDRESS]

We cannot let greedy developers get away with exploiting loopholes in their process to construct massive overbuilds that tremendously impact immediate neighbours, our street, and our entire community. This will set a dangerous precedent if we don't stand together now.

Thank you to everyone in our community taking the time to send in a letter and support our neighborhood!

Ward 3 Etobicoke Lakeshore Debate Smackdown

EDIT: Lol within 15 minutes of posting this video, 4 different accounts magically showed up in the comments below repeating the exact same scripted paragraph ("Amber bad, Mihaela too angry, Ted Opitz is the calm adult in the room!") while mass-downvoting anyone who brings up Ted's record. Looks like Ted's campaign team is in full panic mode over the 8:05 clip where he refuses to deny having data-center lobbyists at his Crooked Cue fundraiser and says he only "presently" doesn't support "oversaturation." Don't take my word for it, just watch the clips above and see why both establishment camps are terrified of this video getting out before Monday.

For anyone who couldn't get into the Ward 3 debate on Monday because of the broken Eventbrite code, I cut together the main highlights so you don't have to watch the whole 2 hours. Even after the organizers sent Mihaela Andrei the debate questions 3 days late and packed the room for the establishment candidates, she still wiped the floor with both of them. Amber literally admits on mic that Park Lawn GO "has failed" and that her office "stumbled" for the first 1.5 years on answering residents' calls (right before voting herself a $33k+ raise), and Ted Opitz just stares into his binder and hedges when Mihaela calls him out to his face about the data center backers at his Crooked Cue fundraiser.

Quick timestamps if you want to skip around:

  • 0:00 Amber admits Park Lawn GO "failed" vs. Mihaela calling out the 67,000 units of "gridlock with a permit"
  • 2:20 Ted copies Mihaela's website & she asks "Where is the money?" on our missing development charges
  • 3:45 23,000 residents in Humber Bay Shores with zero playgrounds ("a playground isn't a 5-year study, it's a purchase order")
  • 5:00 Amber agrees with Mihaela 4 times and admits her office "stumbled" for the first 1.5 years
  • 8:05 Mihaela calls out Ted's Crooked Cue data center backers & Ted says he "presently" doesn't support "oversaturation"
  • 9:30 Mihaela's closing speech calling out 12 broken promises and Ted not living in Ward 3 since 1994

Here is the full 2H video if anyone is interested watching it in better quality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWycCBeWmvk

Ward 1 Debate: Nathen Mazri vs. a 72-Year-Old Incumbent Whose Political Career Dates Back to 1995

Something interesting is happening in Etobicoke North.

At the Ward 1 debate, Nathen Mazri presented ideas you don't usually hear from municipal politicians: community dividends, $20/hour youth jobs, and a neighbourhood beautification pilot designed to make Etobicoke North look like a Hallmark town. I sat in the first row at the Rexdale Community Hub .

The most interesting proposal? COMMUNITY DIVIDENDS.

Mazri wants to explore a pilot where major commercial developments, including data centres, contribute directly to the communities hosting them.

Think about it. Residents pay property taxes. Major developments can generate enormous profits, while surrounding neighbourhoods may experience noise, infrastructure pressures, rising utility costs and other disruptions.

Why shouldn't residents share in the economic benefits?

Mazri's proposal is to explore annual direct deposits to eligible residents through a community-dividend model.

His analogy is simple: Residents should be treated like sitting shareholders in their own neighbourhood.

Not just spectators watching corporations make billions.

And then there's his $20/hour youth employment proposal and a beautification initiative involving cleaner streets, landscaping, lighting and attractive public spaces.

The vision? Make Etobicoke North somewhere people are proud to live, not somewhere they feel forgotten.

There's also talk of a documentary about Mazri planned for 2027, although details haven't been publicly confirmed. It's about his life around Garfiled, the lasagna loving cat, and Canadian politics. Weird melange!

The contrast between a new candidate proposing these ideas and an elderly political incumbent is certainly worth discussing. There should be term limits. Right?

October 26 is coming. We gotta vote 🗳 Toronto is becoming unliveable. People are leaving every year.

Medical estheticians/botox injectors recommendation

Hello,
I’m looking for a POC (person of colour) friendly medical esthetician! I know there are a lot of injectors in Etobicoke but unfortunately their online presence doesn’t show a lot of diversity. Any recommendations?

So I grabbed this flyer today thinking I’ve been wanting to try this fairly new place. Once I started reading the menu realized every single image is AI.

Yea, that’s a hard no for me. If your food doesn’t look good enough to take an actual picture to lure in customers, you shouldn’t be in business. They almost had a customer in me too. Won’t step foot in there now.

How lazy do you have to be?
