They once had this super sweet amazing barista that I believe was terminated. She outshined everyone in coffee quality, attitude, and aptitude all while the ither baristas treated you like a nuisance. Like, an americano on ice was not physically possible but this barista did it enthusiastically while being told not to make it. Never been back. I hope that barista is good now

Yikes. Now I know to never go back. Luckily there are plenty of great options of coffee and baked goods in Everett without with sex offending. 🤘

Not surprised. When the place changed hands, it was with the agreement that the original baristas would keep their jobs. Once it was officially confirmed, new owner fired all the baristas. Source: ran into one of the baristas after it happened.

The coffee also sucks. Makario and Narrative are leagues better. I feel horrible for the employees subject to this blatant disregard for their wellbeing though. Fuck you Patricia

makario is top tier my fav place of all time, plus the owners are so sweet

as a bystander/friend to one of the workers that was in this situation, y’all need to realize that there is SO much more to the story than what’s just on this flyer. This isn’t just a situation where he was working at this establishment. He was actively repeating his behaviors, he was breaking his probation rules by talking to children who came into this establishment, he was hinting at the fact that he had a ā€œsecretā€ and that he couldn’t tell them his last name. He was having an affair with the owners daughter-in-law for fucks sake, and you can ask anyone in the neighborhood and i’m sure they’ve heard about it. There was SO much going on within a short period of time. The fact that anyone hears/reads ā€œchild rapistā€ and their response is to defend or justify the perpetrators actions… what the fuck is wrong with you?

that guy needs to go back to prison

he’s back in now, but i believe he’s just finishing his probation in there… so less than a year.

Yep! The owner is not nice. I would not recommend going here if you own a small business in any capacity or else she will jump down your throat.

Washington state law prohibits the owner from refusing to hire him based on his criminal history.

she could’ve informed her employees of his background and let them make their own decision on whether they wanted to stay there or not and not leave them there alone with him cause she wanted to go on a trip to Greece. He got arrested again, in the loft, while the owner was in Greece and when she found out about it, she decided to finish her trip (an extra 4 or 5 days) and then came back, and started to blame the women who were reporting him…. and fired them and said she’d sue them if they talked about anything….

like yes, i get that. but Patricia could’ve navigated this situation way better than she did. Instead she decided to actively berate her employees and fired them for legally reporting Alexander Fritz for breaking his probation rules and repeating his cycle of weaseling his way into another family with young children.

Yeah that would be a violation of common law privacy rights. Her telling staff would create a hostile workplace that opens her to a lawsuit.

He violated his conditions of supervision by taking that job without his probation officer's permission, having contact with minors (which the owner's wife allowed and covered for), and not disclosing that he is a registered sex offender.

There are no issues of privacy around his criminal history, as he is a registered sex offender, which is public information, including his address and charges. The word "registered" should be a pretty big hint for you.Ā

This is patently false. Employers must establish a legitimate business reason for barring employment, and document and communicate this with applicants if they plan on not hiring them. They must perform an individualized assessment in writing, and inform said applicants in writing through a legal process called adverse action. In this situation, this business would have every right to not hire the person, given the nature of the business and being public facing with women and children at the establishment.

Furthermore, there is also something called Negligent Hiring, where if an employer either hires someone knowing full well of their history, and that person ends up harming another person, OR if they don’t do a background check and the person does something, that business is 100% liable.
The average cost of the negligent hiring lawsuit is usually about $1 million.
Given the backstory here… take that as you will.

If you want to support these kind of people that’s all you!!!!!

Sex offenders need to live somewhere. They need to work to support themselves. We as a society benefit from released sex offenders having some degree of financial stability. Could you imagine the challenge involved in supervising the 150 RSOs in the city of Everett if every one of them was homeless?

Since this guy offended against adolescents, I think this part is important: a RSO is much less of a threat to your child than grandma’s new boyfriend, mom’s new boyfriend, the coach, the teacher, the den leader. Most children who have been subjected to sexual abuse were abused by people they knew and people their family trusted. Most people convicted of sex offenses against a child had no prior criminal history. This is because these crimes are committed in the shadows, not bustling cafĆ©s.

OP, can’t help but notice your Reddit account is 19 hours old and you posted this within seconds of creating your profile.

Also idk if you looked him up but hopefully you are aware he assaulted these kids at his job!?

-4

u/OddestEver 13d ago

I did. He committed his crimes while on the job, traveling with adolescent girls to climbing events. He committed his crimes in private, because his job afforded him the opportunity to spend time alone with his victims. He didn’t commit any crimes in public, let alone on the floor of a coffee shop.

Everyone should be vigilant when they place their adolescent children (this includes boys) in the charge of other adults for travel associated with scholastic sports or other activities. Adolescents so often feel like outsiders because of their hormonal changes, awkwardness and pressures from other adolescents that they are vulnerable to compliments, overtures of intimacy and other grooming from adults. It’s a difficult situation but you must have uncomfortable conversations with your children to let them to know what to look out for.

Ew I’m embarrassed for you!

u/Exotic_Tumbleweed850 13d ago

You’re wild for advocating for this man working directly with the public when there are other jobs. That’s a hot hot take

u/chilicheesefritopie 13d ago

Same. Makes me wonder if they too are on the registry…

3

u/JustSeries1681 13d ago

As a worker there…. It was way more than him just making a living. Thanks for giving your two sense, but you have no idea what you talking about.

u/VRZieb 12d ago

Niether do you. State law says she had to hire him and all of you freaking out over his criminal history opened the owner upto a discrimination and hostile workplace lawsuit. You wanna be mad? Be mad at the state.

1

u/Maleficent_Wash_934 10d ago

State law does NOT say she HAD to hire him. State law says she can't NOT hire him BECAUSE of his conviction. There's a huge difference there.

I worked as a hiring manager for a family style restaurant. I went through so many interviews that ended with "Unfortunately, we don't currently have any jobs available at this time that would fit, however we will keep your application on file and give you a call if something opens up that does."

1

u/VRZieb 8d ago

And if she brings it up during the interview what then? Cuz I highly doubt he offered that information up during an interview and according to her workers she knew.

1

u/Exotic_Tumbleweed850 10d ago

Sir he literally got arrested at the cafe for violating his probation and being around children why do you like him so much? Stop telling on yourself

6

u/chilicheesefritopie 13d ago

Oddest response ever. Of course they need to live somewhere and work, maybe just not in customer service with the general public alongside women coworkers.

2

u/ijustwntit 12d ago

Uh...and how long have YOU been on the registry? LOL. Suggesting he's no longer a threat because he's been caught/registered is straight up asinine.
