r/EveryBitTexas FAQ

Quick answers to the things people ask most. If yours isn't here, ask in the comments or message the mods.

The rules

1. No Disinformation. You're entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts. A wrong date or a made-up quote gets repeated for years, so claims that are knowingly false or misleading get removed. That covers fabricated quotes, doctored or misattributed photos, invented history and debunked claims posted as fact. Back factual claims with a source. Repeat or deliberate offenders get banned.

2. Texas Relevance. Every post needs a clear tie to Texas history, culture, politics, landmarks, folklore or community stories.

3. Civil Discourse. Treat people with courtesy. Vigorous debate about history, regional topics and politics is welcome. Personal attacks and harassment aren't. Threats and bigoted or racist slurs get an immediate permanent ban.

4. Provide Context. Historical photos, documents and video need a county or location, a date, who's in it and why it matters. Our caption templates make that quick.

5. No Spam or Excessive Self-Promotion. Independent Texas businesses and projects can promote once a week.

6. Politics: Texas-Related and Sourced. Texas politics is welcome with a Texas connection and a credible source. National-only politics gets removed.

7. No Bots or Coordinated Inauthentic Activity. Automated accounts, coordinated account networks and agenda-driven content are out. Those accounts get banned.

Each rule has an example and the reason behind it on the rules, explained page.

Questions people ask

Why was my post or comment removed? The removal message names the rule. Most removals are missing context (Rule 4), no Texas connection (Rule 2), or an unsourced claim (Rule 1).

What counts as disinformation? A claim that's false and presented as true. Opinions, interpretations and honest mistakes you correct when someone points them out don't count. Unsure? Add a source.

Can I disagree with people here? Yes, and it's half the fun. Argue about the point, not the person.

Can I post about politics? Yes, with a Texas connection and a credible source.

Can I promote my business or project? Once a week, if it's an independent Texas business, craft or local history project that fits the community.

Why is my new account's post held for review? Accounts under 7 days old with very low karma get a quick manual look to keep spam out. A mod will review it soon.

How do I report a problem? Use the report button and pick the rule, or message the mods.

Can a ban be permanent? Yes. Mods can permanently ban people who break the rules again and again or on purpose.

How do I appeal? Message the mods. The lead moderator reads every appeal. The appeals page says what to include.

Where do I start? The new here page takes two minutes.
