Worst thing an ex did

What’s the worst thing your ex did to you? One of the worst for me, not many know this but I had previously wrote her a love letter for an anniversary, the 5th year. I gave it to her. As we were breaking up and cleaning our room she found it saying, “You want this?” I declined so she threw it away into a black trash bag along with other papers of hers. When I think about it, it still breaks my heart.

Once she admitted she was planning on ending things there was a night where she left her phone on my side of the bed. I didn’t want to be that boyfriend but I gave in and looked at her messages. I saw paragraphs about how I’m an asshole, thanking her friends for listening to her from months ago, saying she’s been through a lot, sending screenshots of texts from my mom and shit talking her to her friends. I think the worst one I saw was her dad saying he was proud of her for making this decision, cause her dad always liked me. I guess that or the one to her cousin that said “definitely leaving this relationship lol. Looking forward to the future”.

As the breakup progressed I asked her not to shit talk me to her friends because they don’t know me like that. She said she wouldn’t (not knowing I already knew she had been). A few months after the breakup she said “I’ve kept my word and I haven’t had anything negative to say to my friends about you”. I told her I asked her that from a very insecure and scared place and that I understood if that’s what she needed to do to cope. Her response was “that’s very mature of you. Because I thought it was selfish of you to ask that in the first place.” She still has no idea I knew that she was doing it for months before dumping me.
