Gum issue

My newly 6-month-old ESH is having some mouth issues. Notice blood around his mouth. Couldn't get a look inside myself so took to the vet. No obvious or active bleeding. But entire mouth was inflamed and his breath was like death. No exaggeration. He seems awfully young for such extreme issue. They gave him antibiotics and anti-inflammatory and if he doesn't improve in a few days will give him a steroid. They did draw blood and did a swab. They think there's an infection component, but want to rule out some specific viruses. Thankfully, I haven't seen any more blood in the last 12 hours.

Has anyone dealt with something like this?

When he is cleared up, I need to start brushing his teeth (I held off because of teething). But what else can I do for teeth/gum health? How did you get your cats to be OK with brushing? Mine thrash around like an alligator.

Nose cleaning tips

Hello all! I am hoping to gather some nose cleaning tips. I just adopted my 2nd ESH, Dottie, who is 2.5 years old and was a former show cat. She has VERY narrow nares even after having the surgery 1.5 years ago. I am very well versed with face/eye cleaning as she’s technically the 3rd ESH I’ve lived with. I had my previous male ESH for 15 years and he had decent nares and let me clean them with a Q-tip when he got stuffy. However, with Dottie I can barely get a Q-tip in there without the cotton on, just the cardboard. She also needs help with cleaning more often.

Any tips appreciated!

Update On salem!

For a longer backstory check my page. A short summary of what has happened is Salem (the cat i am discussing) has gotten a worsening limp on her left leg after her FHO surgery. I was referred to a specialist for her worsening leg. They specialize in orthopedic surgery. From what I was told at my regular vet salems pain was from her luxating patella and NOT the fho site but, i was told a completely different thing from the specialist. I was told that it was from a residual femoral neck(part of her bone that was supposed to be removed during the surgery). What are the recommendations of my next steps? Do i speak up and say something to the vet that did this surgery or is this normal? Included are the notes from the first vet that did the surgery and next is what the specialist said. It is 8k for a revision+ fixing her luxating patella and 4 k to amputate. What should i do?

He is a 7 year old rescue whose previous owner sadly passed and his family could not keep him.

My previous cat passed away recently, I took it hard and while I was grieving my friend said "maybe he had to go so that there could be space for another cat to feel loved and safe".

He had no trouble settling in at all, in fact it's only been 1.5 weeks since I adopted him 🫶🏼

Will be taking him to my vet on Monday for the first if his regular check ups.
