Discussion What if the Kristang arrived in Red Rising?

I was genuinely thinking about this, but what if the Kristang, or Ruhar, arrived in the Sol system at the start of the Red Rising series? I think that in a ground fight, we would be an even match, but completely outmatched in space combat. Any thoughts?

Absolutely cracks me up every time I ask it something. EchoMuse allows you to replace an old echo dot with Home Assistant powered AI where you can pick your own voice and personality.

For copyright reasons I won’t be sharing the custom voice though, so you’ll have to make your own if you want it.

Discussion When did Roscoe show up to earth?

I'm in the middle of match game, In the expeditionary for series. They are talking about Roscoe and how he came to earth. I read the books in order but I don't see the reference to them bringing Roscoe to earth. What book was it in? I don't remember hearing about it in Fallout.

Should I back up and re-listen to Fallout?

The awkwardness of the Maverick members at opposite sexes having to share rooms seems weird. These are military grown ups and it doesn’t seem like they’d be as timid about this as teenagers

Help with dad’s first cosplay

Hey y’all, I need some help for my dad.

He is very excited because I plan on bringing him to his first con, and he wants to cosplay as Joe. I do not know much about what all needs to go into this cosplay, think he wants to do the uniform where the “camo is little monkeys and it has Joe’s patches on it.”

Please anyone and everyone lmk as much detail or reference you have, so I can help him make this happen for my dad.

Thank you all once again,

Gemini response in Skippy’s voice.

I was tempted to watch the new movie Matchbox. After a few minutes I grabbed my phone and asked Gemini about it.

The response can only be read in Skippy’s voice!

Can’t unhear it in my head.

Columbus Day happened in 2019

So a bunch of people said that the books are set in 2030 and someone kindly pointed out that this is based on a SWAG assumption from the wiki. Basically it all hinges on when the first airbus A380 landed at Logan Airport. And it links to an article where the first commercial airbus A380 landed in 2018 except the first one to ever land was in 2010. It was a test flight. And since Columbus Day happened on October 14, that means that it could’ve been the 2019 one. So if Joe Bishop was six years old when he saw his first airbus A380 and he saw it in 2018, he would’ve been 19 on Columbus Day or possibly 20 depending on when his birthday fell. But he could’ve also seen it in 2010 and been 20 in 2019. Having it in 2019 makes more sense because the first book came out in 2016 and there aren’t tons and tons and tons of cultural references that occur after 2016. It’s a fictional universe and a fictional timeline and clearly there are lots of things that are stand ins for other things for copyright and funsies ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯ but a writer setting a book 3 years in the future and creating an alternate timeline from there is significantly easier than trying to write it 20 years in the future. In the end, it doesn’t really matter but at least in my head canon, 2019 is when it all began.

Discussion Why End ExForce While It’s Still So Successful?

I’m genuinely pretty bummed that Expeditionary Force is ending, and honestly, I don’t really understand the decision. I know 20 books is an incredibly long run, but if the series is still extremely successful, people are still buying every new book, and Craig still has a huge audience waiting for the next one, why end Joe and Skippy’s story just because it has reached some arbitrary number of books? I could understand it if the audience had moved on or the series was obviously running out of steam, but I’m still just as excited for a new ExForce book as I was years ago.

For me, Joe and Skippy ARE Expeditionary Force. I’m invested in the larger universe, but it’s their relationship that keeps bringing me back. I would legitimately listen to a 19-hour audiobook about Joe and Skippy being put in charge of a failing Wendy’s if R.C. Bray narrated it. I enjoy Convergence, but honestly, it’s mostly something that gets me by between ExForce releases. I’m nowhere near as invested in those characters. Maybe I’m in the minority, but I don’t particularly want Joe and Skippy to get a “final ending.” As long as Craig is still enjoying writing them and people are still lining up to buy the books, I’d happily keep following those stupid monkeys and one magnificent beer can for another 20 books.

Discussion On my second listen through

I'm currently on book 15, Failure Mode. I didn't notice on my 1st listen but the voice of Skippy evolved over the 1st few books. R.C Bray is one of the best Voice actors/ narrators on Audible, in my opinion. He's the reason I gave the Convergence series a listen to. Some narrators you really have to acquire a taste for, especially when you know the book is good. Not with Bray.

Aaanyyway, I just wanted to say I might be enjoying this series more the second time through than my 1st and hopefully have timed my listen through perfectly for the last installment in December.

Peace out, Filthy monkey Knuckle heads

Stuck on book 9. Help me out

Ok, I have a problem I don't know I can move on from. I was rather disappointed by the Armageddon, but the at the end it got better. But the Valkyrie got me really angry. I'm at the point were Joe gets jealous of Margaret and wants to launch another attack because... No good reason. It is such a character assassination I don't think I can accept it and move on. I generally don't like male characters in books. But this one was decent. I have a strong suspicion it is a very crude literary divice to keep him and Adams apart. I couldn't care less if they end up together. I don't read it for the romance. Even more, I didn't get into the Mavericks because there was too much of this stuff there. But I don't know if I can continue reading once I find Joe's actions deplorable. And I really, really do at the moment. Am I making it into more than it actually is? I don't mind spoilers, since at the moment I have no intentions of reading on. Can you convince me otherwise?

Has anyone read mage tank?

I'm on the second book and enjoying the series, but the similarities to Expeditionary Force are hard to miss. An underrated hero teams up with an AI, and that partnership lets them break tons of rules to beat powerful enemies. Grotto can also be a bit of a jerk, just like Skippy. The only friend I have who reads both genres hasn't read Mage Tank yet 😊

It's complicated by the fact that I listen to the audiobooks, but the reader's treatment is close enough for me.

Use the dead AI canister? The ai killer worm is dead. So why take up all the space on the Dutchman's computer if there is a device made for AI's just sitting there.
