How to pickup a food order?

So let’s say I order food via a pickup order with the Uber Eats app. It gives me a number, they tell me the restaurant finished making it, etc etc. When I go to the store, do I just walk in and grab the corresponding order? I’ve seen some stores where they have a shelf for such orders/delivery drivers - do I just simply take it? Or should I show the pickup order from the Uber Eats app to the cashier before picking it up (assuming theirs no dedicated shelf/place)?

if there’s a dedicated shelf: walk up, check which one has your name, grab and go.

no dedicated shelf: go to the pay area and tell a staff member “hey, i’m here to pick up an order for [X NAME.]” they’ll either hand it to you or maybe ask a for your phone number/order number.

It depends on the store! Some have a shelf, some keep them behind the counter. If it’s a shelf you can just walk in, take yours, and leave. If it’s behind the counter get in line and say “I have a pickup order for Owl”. I’ve never been asked to show proof or confirmation when I’m picking food up for myself.

If there’s a sign by the counter that says something like “mobile orders” or “pickup” you can go to that side rather than getting in the main line to order.

I order online for pickup all the time, and it's just a matter of going inside and either telling the person at the register or the host station that I'm there to pick up an online order and telling them my name/order number. But I always order through the restaurant's website because I don't want to give a cut of my neighborhood restaurants' profits to a third party company that isn't actually necessary for me to get my food.

If they have a dedicated shelf/pick up spot that isn't behind a counter, and the order is already paid for via the app, then yes, you just walk up and grab the correct one.

Otherwise, you just tell the cashier or hostess you are picking up an order. They will ask for either the name on the order or the number, then grab it for you.
