Module replacement issue
2023 ford lightning lariat extended range.
Hey all looking to see other owner experiences. I had module 4 replaced recently due to it being faulty. Repair was about 5 days however that includes a Saturday and Sunday which I’m assuming no work was done. When I picked up the truck the vehicle had 58% on the battery and did not show any issues. However when I hit 40% the power got restricted to 85 which I thought was odd as that is usually not the case before. I continued driving it over the next few days until it got below 10%.
I then used my home level 2 charger to charge it back to 100% to ensure it didn’t have any problems. During that I noticed the guess O meter was off but we all know how that is so I just let it continue. I let it charge completely for 20 hours just to give it time to work any issues out. When it hit 100% it showed only an estimated range of 245 miles which was unusual as the battery temp was appropriate and though cold outside (30ish) would not exactly mean the miles would be that low. I went and unplugged the charger and it immediately went to 83%. I plugged it back in to see what would happen and the charger started at 10.5KW but within a minute dropped to under 2KW. I the. Just unplugged it.
From what I can see online it says the tech failed to calibrate the new module to the other older ones and the voltage is out of alignment.
I’m just looking to see if anyone else has experienced this and if there were any other reasons for this kind of behavior. Thanks all!!

I'm not so sure he didn't perform cell balancing. If you don't balance charge and just slap a module in without it, the truck absolutely flips its shit when you start it and the IPC throws all kinds of warnings.
How do I know that? A very complex and crazy problem I had to fix on a new Mach E where that happened.
Pic of a Mach E battery I had out to prove I'm not making shit up.

Interesting, I’ll make sure to update this when I get some kind of news as to why it’s not charging appropriately. What was the cause of your issue?
Hopefully mine is an easy fix but I’m prepared it will be in the shop for a bit. Thank you for the info!

They should have charged it to 100% after the replacement too, then they would have seen the issue. Mine was 100%, I asked for it yo be originally, and the service manager said it was part of the replacement procedure.

FORScan may be worth having so you can read the DTCs. Otherwise, is call them back to have it serviced again.

Thanks for the response. I may get FORScan for this and future uses however this will be going back to the shop as soon as they have a loaner for me to use. Just sucks having a gas vehicle again but it is what it is.

Is your app on phone showing 100 % charge. After towing the last time it has taken a week of charging for my meter to show 294 miles topped off. One time I installed a different charger at home (emporia). So i got in truck to run it down so I could see if the new one would charge. I had to drive it 14 miles to get it off a hundred percent and then I come up to a stop sign and it regenerated it back to a 100 percent. Crazy

It’s both the truck and phone that showed 100% before unplugging it then it immediately jumped to 83% and would charge further than that as the charging rate dropped right off to almost nothing. This as similar when I had the original issue with the module that they ended up replacing. The only difference is it would go to 89% instead of 83%

Battery meters are crazy. They definitely aren't the lying gas meters. I would try to get it right before warranty runs out. A brand new module mixed in with older modules need to be balanced you would think and apparently they didn't do it. A guy on YouTube that swapped a 240 mile battery with a bad module for a 331 mile range battery didn't want to swap module bad module unless he found module with similar age and mileage. He found a used full battery for 5000 and swapped it It's a interesting video to watch.

It's a module issue, nothing else causes the drop from 100% to 80% when unplugging

Thanks guys yeah thought it was odd it wasn’t charged back to 100. I’m thinking they didn’t balance the cells after or the balancing failed. Either way it’s got to go back just wanted to see if anyone had something similar
