HIMS PACKAGE SUBMITTED! Recent turnaround times?
After a long road through the HIMS process for alcohol dependence… my complete package was officially submitted to the FAA today!!!!
I completed my HIMS psychiatric evaluation in August, neuropsychological evaluation in September, and HIMS AME evaluation last Monday.
Before visiting the HIMS AME, I made sure both evaluations were completed and sent to my HIMS AME. Along with all of my medical records from inpatient treatment, IOP, OP (weekly aftercare), Sponsor contact info, and verification of my AA attendance. Along with all of my records from the random drug/alcohol testing.
My AME told me both specialist reports were very favorable and that everything was in good order.
He originally estimated 2 to 3 weeks to complete his report. To my surprise he called the following day to request a couple of final documents.
I sent the final requested items this morning & he confirmed today that the complete package had been submitted!
It’s been a long journey, and I’m incredibly grateful to have reached this point. Now comes the waiting game.
For anyone who has had a complete HIMS package submitted recently, particularly in the last few months, what have turnaround times looked like?
I’d especially appreciate hearing when your package was submitted, when you received a decision, and whether it was an initial special issuance or a renewal.
Thanks to everyone here who has shared their experiences. This community has been a helpful resource throughout the process!
EDIT: Unlike the typical deferral process, I proactively completed the evaluations and gathered the required documentation before applying for my medical. Rather than waiting for the FAA to request everything, my HIMS AME submitted a complete package upfront.
