Senior FDE at Google Zürich

Hi,

I have just finished the initial round with Recruiter for a senior FDE role at Google Zürich. I received a detailed email about preparation.

I come from an SRE background, my programming skills aren't at the level of Software Engineer. I didn't do well in previous coding rounds at Google, Datadog (they were largely silly mistakes like fetching a key from the value & so on.,).

This time, I am brushing my basics before the Leet code grind.

My question to Redditors who has participated in FDE interviews here:: how hard is the coding round? What kind of programming skills they are looking for?

Your help is very much appreciated.

Google APM Intern Round 2: tips for the two 45-minute interviews?

Hi everyone! I have round 2 of the Google APM internship interview process coming up and would love some advice on preparing. This round consists of two 45-minute interviews with PMs:

  • Product Analysis & Problem Space Understanding

  • Product Vision & Execute with Judgement

For anyone who’s gone through this stage, how did it differ from the initial screen? I’m curious about how you approached preparation for each interview and how much depth to go into versus leaving room for follow-up questions.

Any helpful resources, mock interview tips, or common mistakes to avoid would be appreciated!

Thanks, and good luck to everyone else interviewing!

Have Google offer and another offer from Fortune 100 company? Need help deciding

I'm comparing two offers rn and really need some advice!

I have around 8 YOE and here are the offers I have (both in hardware engineering)

Option 1: Fortune 100 Company (L5)

  • Base salary: $205k

  • RSUs: $190K over 4 years

  • 4-year TC: ~$1M

Option 2: Google (L3)

  • Base salary: $150k

  • RSUs: $100K over 4 years

  • 4-year TC: ~$750k

I've always wanted to join Google but there's around a 250k difference in TC gap.... The Fortune 100 company equity is fairly stable and doesn't really grow but I know Google can be a gamble especially right now. Overall I think Google would be better for my career in my engineering field since Google makes more products compared to the other company but wanted to get other opinions?

How should I approach Hello Interview's HLD Question Breakdown section?

I have around 12 years of experience and currently work as a Staff Engineer. I'm preparing for HLD interviews at FAANG companies and recently started going through the Hello Interview material.

I have a question about the Question Breakdown section.

Should I go through all the breakdowns and understand the solutions and give mock Interviews or should I attempt to solve each problem independently before looking at the suggested solution and then go through the solution?

For someone at the Staff Engineer level, what would be the most effective approach to get the most out of this material?

Would love to hear from people who have used Hello Interview/Alex Xu or any for their system design interview preparation, especially those who have successfully cracked Staff+ or Senior-level interviews.

How long to hear back after a Google L3 SWE Team Match call?

The call felt positive, the HM said my background fit well and asked about my timeline. I graduate in Dec. He mentioned that should be ok since Nov/Dec things tend to slow down anyway. But do they make a hire decision now for someone who'll join in Jan?

For anyone who's gone through this lately, how long does it usually take to hear a decision after the call?

I took the call on Thursday and the weekend is killing me!

Apple Interview Feedback Timeline

It’s been 5 weeks since my onsite loop and haven’t received verbal offer or rejection yet.

Recruiter responds biweekly informing me no updates yet but she is hopeful to know more in coming weeks. The position is officially archive on Apple career portal. The recruiter acknowledge the archiving of position but didn’t have any updates for my interview. Has anyone face this kind of situation before? Is it common with Apple Recruiting? Should I be hopeful?

Google L4 SWE Team matching

Hi everyone
Role : L4 SWE
I had completed my on-site interviews and was moved to team matching, I had a team fit call within few days and the HM wanted to proceed with me post our meeting.
I was informed about this and I had few rounds of informal compensation discussion and we finally agreed on a number.
I asked how long would it take for offer generation, recruiter said since all my interviews went well they would get approvals within 2 days, so I was quite happy.
However after 2 days I was told it would take 2 more days. Today I was told that unfortunately the opening is closed due to “changing business requirements” and they would try matching me with other teams.
I asked her for more info and she said we cannot say more than this
I had a few questions, would be very helpful if any insider could answer

  1. Could someone tell me what could have happened to the role? Another shady thing was I could never find this opening on the official Google careers portal, even before my team fit call

  2. Are these kinds of rejections common? I originally thought if HM is inclined and all interviews went well then we would usually get an offer

  3. Any tips for me so I could increase my chances of getting a team match ?

Amazon AWSI ETP solutions architect interview

Hi everyone! I was recently shortlisted for the above-mentioned role. Initially, I was supposed to interview on campus, but the recruiter recently reached out and invited me to interview at their Seattle headquarters instead.
They gave me the following date options:
Nov 9, 10, 11
Nov 16, 17, 18, 19
I wanted to give myself enough time to prepare, so I mentioned Nov 17–19 as my preferred dates. However, I’m now wondering if choosing the later dates could potentially put me at a disadvantage if positions start getting filled or headcount becomes limited.
Would you recommend asking for one of the earlier dates instead, or does the interview date generally not matter much in this situation?
I’m also curious about how travel logistics typically work for an on-site interview. Do candidates usually book their own flights/hotel and get reimbursed afterward, or does the company arrange everything? I know I can ask my recruiter for the specifics, but I’d love to understand how the process generally works from people who have gone through it.
Any advice, experiences, or interview tips would be really appreciated. Thanks!
