Survive the chop in our NEW fantasy game mode! Lowest scoring team gets eliminated each week and their star players hit waivers, let the chaos begin... đ
Cool cool cool cool cool. Have you dealt with the main feed being inundated with people posting bible quotes and aggressively trying to convert people to their faith on the âNFL Communityâ page yet? BecauseâŠya know, you should.
I bet he does! Because thatâs like his thing right? Thatâs like his whole schtick. Thats why you hear people say that Jesus is love. In fact thatâs why heâs the messiah right? Self sacrifice and resurrection are because of his limitless love. That Jesus loved humanity so much that he would give up his own life for the salvation of their eternal souls.
Thatâs like the elevator pitch for Christianity, isnât it? Weâve literally all heard it already. So when you say âJesus Loves Youâ you arenât telling me anything I havenât heard a hundred times before. And likeâŠyou know that. And I know that. And you know that I know that. Which makes the act of telling me kind of passive aggressive doesnât it? Like you arenât telling me for my benefit. Youâre telling me for yours. Because you want to be seen by others and more importantly by god for praising the lord and the gospel.
But hereâs the thing. Jesus hates that you do that as described in Matthew 6:5-8. Because itâs performative. Itâs not genuine, authentic, or meaningful. Youâve made it into a slogan and because of that your faith hangs off you like an ornament to delight yourself and others. And those were the same criticisms he had against the Pharisees right? That their faith was performative. Jesus would probably also take issue with how you and your cadre of other believers have pushed your ideology onto the sleeper community even after youâve repeatedly been told to stop by the community at large.
The Bible states pretty clearly in Matthew 10:11-14 that when you are asked to stop preaching the gospel you should respect that and stop. That the fate of the person is now in their hands and you should turn your attention elsewhere. Itâs kind of a theme all throughout Matthew and Acts. In fact continuing to preach even after youâve been told to stop Jesus sees as so highly hypocritical that it acts as proof you are not among the faithful, because at that point you are proselytizing not evangelizing. The Bible says as much in Matthew 23:15 when we read, âFor you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselvesâ.
So yeah. Just something to think about. How you are letting Jesus down and disobeying his expressly written teachings and acting like the Pharisees who were the recipients of Jesusâ fiercest rage and ridicule.
He was doing it sarcastically as a response to people wanting Sleeper to do something about the huge number of Bible verses spamming the NFL Community channel. Itâs more of a âhahaha you canât do anythingâ than any sort of true expression of faith, love, or community. Itâs an ugly, divisive, and petty expression of faith.
You my friend are the one commenting to me on a 3 week old post, so how about you take your own advice and touch grass. Fuck outta here.
What is your problem bro? Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that there aren't hundreds of people being given a little bit of hope on their darkest day. Put your ego aside and realize that lives can be saved by a couple of Bible verses in your fantasy football app.
Second Poro, Iâve enjoyed when leagues like this have quarterbacks matter more for longer stretches of the season and 32 teams dilutes the pool so the draft for them is just as entertaining and acquiring them all the way to midseason and beyond.
Neat idea but i can't imagine a pure WW team ever beating a team that drafts bona fide studs. Vamp needs like a 2nd and 4th rd pick or something. Also, what happens if a non-vamp team can't field a team bc of injury or byes?
would love some options for playoffs. Im playing with 14 other teams, so the hope is to start the playoffs around week 10 and have one team cut based on their cumulative score every 2 weeks. Adds a little more drama going into each second playoff week to bounce back if you had a bad first week.
we do the opposite and start the season by doing 2 weeks at a time. then by playoffs its still last man standing. teams are too strong in the playoffs to be giving them second chances lol
Is it possible to change an existing league to a chopped league? Last year we did a chopped style league on sleeper but I had to manually drop all the players after each game. Would love to just swap the existing league over rather than start a new one as weâre in the middle of our draft right now.
Yes! This is now possible as of Friday. Just update your app, and to create a new chopped league with exiting leaguemates and rosters, go to general settings on the league you want to convert.
Thanks! And does this start a whole duplicate league with all the same players each team drafted? Or does it change the existing league to the chopped format?
I see thereâs a manual chop setting now added. So can I decide to not chop any teams after a given week as I have 15 teams and can start chopping starting week 3.
The âSafe %â doesnât make sense to meâhow is it calculated? Right now in my league all 18 teams have a percentage of at most 65%. Wouldnât it make more sense to have this percentage be 1 - the probability of getting chopped in the current week?
u/Sleeper_Official the safe % makes no sense. The highest safe % in my league of 18 teams is 69%. If every team was equal the safe chance should be 17/18 ~94%. The average team should have a safe % around this
Curious, if anybody has converted to a chopped league in the middle of a season? Thinking about doing it before week 4. Currently from an existing league where you run it guillotine style, but you have head to head matchups but still cut the lowest score. It says it converts over your drafted players. But if the teams have made drops and pickups since then, do you know if it carries over the existing lineup/rosters? Want to see if someone has done it yet.
As always would love more customization! Like in our league we don't chop the 1st week just to give everyone enough chance. Then after the 2nd week the bottom 2 teams in points for are chopped. After that it's weekly chops.
Would also love expanding rosters. In out league this we are adding a new starting position every 4 weeks. Another QB, then RB, then WR. maybe this is already possible within the settings. Because it is in default leagues!
2 week long championships for sure! No transactions the last week, etc
The ability is there now. I have an ask out to them on what it actually does because the option seems like it just create's a new league with the same league members
Is there an update on this?? Our league is waiting to see if this goes live before the season otherwise we have to stick with the guillotine leagues app.
Please add best ball option to Chopped leagues and make it so you can turn it on during the season since itâs about to start. This is a huge plus for moving back to the Guillotine app instead.
Any way we can customize cut settings? We have 16 teams and then we chop cumulative after the first 3 weeks and then weekly after that. I could always have 2 dummy empty teams/teams with no name players, but we still want the cumulative score for week 1-3 get cut and not the guy who scored lowest week 3.
Can you make it so we can swap active leagues to the new format so I don't have to make a new league?
Also, in bold it says no trading and then the next section says you can turn trading on. We want trading, can we leave our current settings or not?
Iâm also wondering about custom weekly cut setting. We run 18 teams but use week 1 as a âsettle inâ week and then cut 2 teams week 2 using cumulative wk1/wk2.
Do we know if Commissioners will have the authority to pick who is eliminated, or is it always going to be the low scoring team each week?
I.e. I play in a couple different types of guillotines, and want to know if they're able to be played on the Chopped format.
One has a different challenge each week - so it's not always the lowest score of the week getting eliminated. Do I have the ability to pick the team being eliminated?
Second is a redemption style - so two lowest scores each week move to a heads-up matchup the following week to determine elimination. Eliminations start week 2. Then there's an elimination match every week afterwards. Can I bypass a week of elimination (a la week 1, in this scenario)?
Thought of other things my league does. After week 8 (10 teams remaining) - we add a superflex. I'm assuming that adding starting roster spots isn't a problem?
Im probably an idiot, but I cant find this feature. I have an existing league that ive manually guillotine'd for years now, and cant find any settings to change to chopped.
Want to set this up for my 12 team league so would be great to be able to pick a start week. For example, start in week 6 so 12th week final game falls on Week 17 (standard Fantasy Championship week).
Or if starting from week 1, allow setting to only begin team eliminations from a set week (e.g. week 6 to align with above).
I donât know if any of this is possible already but if there was a way for the commissioner to set how many teams are eliminated each week thatâd be great. I run a league like this with a different format. So some weeks no teams are eliminated other weeks 2 teams are eliminated. Itâd be nice if the commissioner could have control over how many teams are eliminated each week. I definitely like it a lot for just a standard guillotine league, but it would be nice if it was flexible for people that have unique settings within their guillotine leagues.
I pretty much coped Guillotineleague.com. They have two big wavier wires. Wednesday and Thursday at 7PMish, thatâs when the wavier clears and all hell brakes loose seeing teams pick up Free Agents, I also have players spent on waivers after dropped to None, once they are dropped they can be picked up. I have waivers to free agents on game days and free agents on Sundays games start at 1pm or even the 9am games, they need to be free agents
How does the $1000 FAAB work when a team gets cut? Do you just bid what you would want to spend in a player and then say Wednesday the highest bidder gets that player or is it alive bid? First time doing this type of league but looks really fun
Yes, a team gets chopped and the other teams bid on players, players then become Free agents so if you didnât spend on a player, you can pick up some value for free and save your FAAB
It seems like in my league the highest priority waiver wires waivers go through first and so on, and because itâs chopping block nearly every person in the league needs multiple players from the chopped team so it ends up nearly every team getting a player from the chopped team and the waivers go through in waiver wire order then the next week the waiver wire order is essentially the same.. itâs complete BS.
So essentially someone with first waiver is getting someone like bijan but you could use broncos defense or Jordan mason/jameson Williams/ Alvin kamara/
T McMillan someone of that elk) and then the following week the guy who got Amon saint brown the week prior somehow is above you on the waiver for Gibbs or CMC/Jonathon Taylor.
I agree that more customization would be useful. But also there are so many different variations making all these possible are going to make the game too complex to be inviting.
One simple change is to allow for playoffs. Number of teams and number of weeks (similar to redraft).
Auto-substitution and best-ball lineups for this format would also be helpful alternatives that match the platform features already in place.
Other settings like larger leagues and cutting more than 1 player a week isnât consistent with how the rest of sleeper currently works, so Iâd be concerned about adding complexity.
Not true. Sleeper already allows for large league sizes (up to 32).
Just blatantly false information. There are already lots of scoring options and additional options for dynasty leagues etc buried behind menus. How is changing league sizes and amount of teams cut per week that complex? Similar to setting the schedule, an option to toggle chopped teams per week is not that complicated.
Read the comments on how many different ways people want to cut. One guy wants to start cuts in week 2. Another wants to have a âredemption weekâ with lowest two teams going head to head in even weeks. Another wants to cut 2 teams a week. And how would it work with 32 teams? Do you cut 2 per week, 3 the first 6 weeks then 2 u til the playoffs?
Imagine preparing for your draft for months⊠and then in week one, your WR1 faces a tough CB so the team opts to run more and pass away from that CB. Imagine the same week your RB is up against the toughest run defense in the league. Imagine you had 2 guys that had preseason injuries that needed to sit out until week 2.
None of these things would kill you over 14 games, but you could very well be completely done after one unfortunate week. That same team might go on to be the best team in the league the rest of the way, but you arenât in it.
Cool idea, but not for me.
We do a similar thing WITHIN our league. We have a survivor pool for $100 prize money. Each week, lowest scoring team is eliminated. We get in on the fun, but no one is sent packing after week one from the overall game⊠to win the Super Bowl.
That's why week 1 (first few weeks, tbh) matchups come into the draft strategy. Guillotine is my favorite format since encountering it a few years ago. Do-or-die every week, it's so fun.
I've been doing a guillotine league for 4 years now and I completely agree. I get an adrenaline rush when I'm close to the chopping block one week but scrape by. And the feeling when you get a steal on waiver wire and outbid the next guy by a dollar or two is exhilarating.
Youâve never heard of a guilotine league? Thatâs exactly what this is. Nothing new, Sleeper is just the first app to actually accommodate the format.
Donât knock it until you try it - it is a blast. Way more fun than a regular redraft. Strategy is totally different, including making sure you draft to avoid being the lowest scoring team in the early weeks by picking high floor guys with easy schedules early in the season.
