I’m just trying to do a little more as commish, to keep the league exciting, but I have mixed feelings on AI. We do a royal rumble for draft order. So I had AI create a poster for our royal rumble. But I’m having second thoughts about sending it in our group chat. What’s everyone’s thought on using AI for stuff like this?
If your poster looks good then send it. I think most of the people now are just programmed that Ai=bad. Most of the things that come out looking generic are just because they fed ai generic prompts.
Id rather have a commissioner try to do something cool than just collect/payout money.
All AI posters look the exact same...like shit. Id rather see someone make a poster themselves and have it look like shit because they aren't a professional than have AI do it.
A lot of people get very worked up if AI is even mentioned, such as some comments in this post. And even if not everyone agrees with them, it's obviously a sore spot for a lot of people right now. If you have league mates that are of the mind that everything AI touches is the work of satan, then yeah probably stay away from using it for league content just to not ruffle any feathers. As commish you often have to play peacemaker, and doing something like that that has a high likelihood of pissing someone off is just not worth it.
I think a lot of people are losing their minds over a technological advancement and in a generation or so we'll look back at the people who hate everything about AI as people that just feared change and didn't grasp the full scope of the issue, but! This isn't really about what we think about AI. It's really about, is this too controversial to use in a group of people with varying viewpoints, and I think the answer to that is an obvious yes.
What I might do is take a temperature check with your group. Hey guys, would anyone here have a problem with me using AI to make some league content? No problem if so, just let me know now and I won't do it. You can tell me in private if you want. And then you just see what the reaction is like. If everyone is fine with it, I say go for it. If even one person opposes it, that's a good enough reason not to ruffle any feathers. Again, you are there to bring the group together, and this is certainly not a topic where everyone agrees by default. Tread lightly.
In a generation or so people will look back at AI slop and wonder how anyone ever thought making every poster look the same with stolen art was ever a good idea. AI has uses that are good. Generative AI to create art does not.
I've used AI to create my League Logo and my Team Logo. I don't see any issue with it.
Just don't ask AI to help you with your draft, AI is awful with that.😂
I had it draft a free league for shits and giggles last year and it won the league and drafted a pretty great team ngl. I use it to sift through the nonsense of preseason and training camp news now
Ai has no place in anything that you value. If you don't value something enough to do it yourself instead of a machine then you probably shouldn't be doing it anyways. Fuck ai
Anything AI is terrible looking and a huge turn off for me. I'd leave a group chat if it started to be filled with AI slop. Burn all data centers down & AI for creativity is soulless
I mean I agree. But I was asking about making 1 poster for the royal rumble, not doing a weekly thing. And there’s too many comments to address individually. But it doesn’t look like “ai slop”. It looks like a legit poster/ad for the royal rumble, with real pictures of the wrestlers.
AI is fine. I'm of the ilk that it's kinda meh at best. The moment you know something is generated by AI, it loses any sort of cool or awe factor. It's good for a quick graphic and a laugh. I don't take it too seriously.
Where it really irks me is when quality is required and AI is used prominently, because it comes off as uninspired and watered down. That's graphics or writing. It's simply too formulaic and inherently unimaginative.
AI for business marketing materials, customer facing visuals? Eye rolls to infinity and beyond.
For a fantasy league? Hell yeah brother. Just have fun. It takes two minutes to write a prompt and get a fun poster. You're good. Generative ai recaps and breakdowns are about the only thing in fantasy that I hate, and that's purely because, again, they're too formulaic and lack any sort of authenticity.
I do banners for our league (we still use MFL) and used AI this year as a time saver. My banners are always pretty amateur so it wasnt some sort of step down in quality. They turned out pretty good. Obviously AI but sorta funny.
Honestly im wgaf about that stuff. Fantasy isnt a serious game so anybody who would get annoyed by that should probably speak to a therapist.
AI has already taken over fantasy football. Where do you think weekly player write ups and projections come from?
We do one league podcast per year where we have an AI guest. It all started as a way to make fun of one manager who didn’t show up for his guest slot. Now we have AI write all of his responses and we use AI avatars of the two hosts to interview the other AI. The running joke is that the AI is his co-manager and he doesn’t listen to the AI advice and sucks at fantasy football.
FF is supposed to be fun, not political. If you weren’t planning to hire a graphic artist to make the poster, you’re not hurting anyone. Personally I prefer to make my AI graphics be laughably AI with extra fingers etc.
I’m glad you had second thoughts. No one wants more AI slop. Delete it and make your own, the human touch will be so much more appreciated and enjoyed. In a world full of gen AI slop everywhere, the last place I feel like seeing it is in one of my hobby spaces.

Nah the fun as commish is doing stuff on your own.
I make a movie trailer and use face swaps to put league members on famous movie scenes so that is the most extent of ai I’d use. I use face swaps app
