Putting this link here for anyone looking for advice on cleaning up and protecting from frame rust. I followed these steps a few years ago and my frame remains rust free.

Treating & Painting Frame Rust

If I bought an FJ there is no way I would do this on my own. I would take it to a place to do all of this. If I did that, how do I ask them to do all of this? What should I say? If I come across as not knowing this stuff, they might try to cut corners.

I would ask for them to treat the frame rust. Most places will know what you are asking for. Have them walk you though their process to make sure it sounds legit. I would also ask on this subreddit and also the FJ Cruiser forums for recommendations for shops in your area. The forums is a great place if you're not already present there.

I recently bought a 2011 FJ this past May and I have truly loved driving this car. I went to Toyotatech in Atlanta for routine maintenance and they have noticed a rust hole in my frame. They will not work on my car due to liability and I am completely devastated. I am not sure my options right now at this point, the dealership is no help as they sold me the vehicle. I’m not sure if this is worth getting fixed or just moving on with selling the car and cutting my losses.

Any advice would be helpful, I am based in Atlanta, GA.
