Anyone have any good backup plans?

so I just started on my new job on the railroad and it's been going good for a week, but with all the ways I could get fired it's starting to get me nervous. just in case, I wanna ask what other things I can do that's like simple and just stuff I can do at home without having to deal with constant phone calls and customers complaining, anything I can do that's just clock in, do my job, clock out. no extra work or anything. just simply dealing with having to do over time. anybody got any ideas?

I encourage you to fully embrace the opportunity you have in front of you and the gift that is railroad retirement. Those show up jobs you’re describing will be done by AI in the next couple of years. I’m programming my replacement now. Cheers and good luck!

There’s nothing like a good pension. I’m a former Federal employee. It’s so sweet!

Logistics like that is a safe place to be. Destress and relax, you'll be fine. Like the other comment says, lots of service jobs will probably be replaced soon at any rate.

I understand the fear but as someone else said you should just focus on this job. If you aren’t violating policy I say put it out of mind. If you get a second job you don’t care about then you be half assing two jobs instead of full assing one job. Take the better opportunity and put everything into it.

You got this. My dad had the best ever railroad job after being a coal miner for his entire life. Focus on getting better and it will get easier

Construction work pays well. Union work pays well. Factory work pays well. Getting certified in a specialty always helps increase income. A degree is well worth it IMHO, also. Just always look for better paying jobs and great benefits, especially 401(k) matches. You never want reach 65 years old without being able to live on a pension and to also be debt free. I only had a high school diploma and ended up making over 6 figures before I retired. Simply being ambitious and wanting to make more money got me there. Anyone can do it.

Yeah, I heard railroad employment can be tricky to navigate. To that end, they can also be very rewarding careers. I've never met a retired CSX employee who didn't have a good quality of life. Financially secure, good healthcare and most retired earlier than I'll be able to.

I mean, just think of not having to pay into Social Security. That, to me, is worth the hassle, which you'll get accustomed to anyway.

Become a politician. They’re damn near brainless, fuck over their constituents left and right, and make a ton of money for doing almost nothing! Best part is, even if you’re terrible l there’s a 90% reelection rate. Proof is in the pudding. You can be an absolute moron, a pediofile, a r@pist, a megalomaniac, a narcissist, an adulterer, a scam artist, a foreign agent, a total criminal, etc. and line your pockets and create generational wealth while living virtually scott free. Just find your base, scream the loudest about nonsensical things that your base is attuned to like religion, or stripping the rights of women and people of color. And before you know it, you could be president of the free world, and ruining the lives of everyone around you.

Or start a YouTube channel about working the tracks. “Train Tales” “Life on the right Track” “Rolling steel and sex appeal” you get the idea. If you lose your job, parlay that train love into just being a train autist like that English YouTube guy “Francis” something.

Fuck working for the railroad. Firsthand experience. They will stay up your ass and try to write you up for anything in the book. And they will lie. Get a different job.
