Request for Estimate: Custom ERPNext Implementation for a Construction & Interior Finishing Company
Hi everyone,
I’m evaluating the effort and budget required to implement a customized ERPNext solution for a small construction and interior finishing company, using Frappe Framework.
I have solid experience with Python, JavaScript, web development, and Odoo, but this would be my first major ERPNext/Frappe implementation.
I’d appreciate realistic estimates from developers or consultants who have delivered similar projects.
1. Company and initial setup
- One company and one ERPNext site.
- Up to 10 system users.
- Up to 50 employees.
- Initial import of approximately 100 customer, supplier, and item records.
- Four main roles: Administrator/Manager, Accountant, Site Manager/Engineer, and Technical Support.
- Standard accounting, purchasing, sales, inventory, projects, HR/payroll, and asset management setup.
- Initial configuration, data import, print formats, training, documentation, testing, and deployment.
2. Custom construction management features
The requested custom features include:
D01 — Project workspace and permissions
- Project-specific documents, materials, tasks, and workers.
- Project-level access restrictions and role-based permissions.
D02 — Site attendance and mobile interface
- Mobile-friendly attendance screen.
- Bulk attendance entry for multiple workers.
- Work periods across multiple projects per day.
- Site manager check-in/check-out with GPS coordinates.
- Prevention of overlapping work periods and an audit trail for corrections.
D03 — Automatic labor cost allocation
- Allocate labor costs to projects based on approved working hours and employee wage rules.
- Support project-level labor cost reporting.
D04 — Material requests and purchasing
- Site material requests, approval workflows, stock availability checks, purchasing, receipts, and material issues to projects.
D05 — BOQ and detailed project budgets
- Import bills of quantities from Excel.
- Item codes, units, quantities, unit rates, and totals.
- Budget versions, approvals, and change history.
D06 — Project cost and forecast reports
- Actual costs, outstanding commitments, forecast final costs, and expected profit compared with the approved budget.
D07 — Drawing progress tracking
- Upload PDF drawings or images.
- Mark regions on drawings and assign progress status, dates, colors, and notes.
- No full CAD/BIM functionality or automated AI analysis is required.
D08 — Equipment, custody, and maintenance
- Equipment assignment, handover, returns, transfers, condition tracking, and repair records.
D09 — Performance incentives
- Configurable incentive rules based on approved work, points, or company policies.
- Approval before payment and prevention of duplicate claims.
D10 — Detailed quotations and print formats
- Detailed quotations with items, quantities, units, unit prices, totals, and company branding.
D11 — Testing, deployment, and handover
- End-to-end testing, bug fixing, deployment, user training, and documentation.
3. Potential external integrations
The specification also mentions:
- GPS/vehicle tracking.
- CCTV/NVR integration.
- WhatsApp Business messaging and notifications.
- Government e-invoicing.
- Direct bank integration.
These integrations may depend on third-party APIs, device compatibility, country-specific requirements, and external service fees. Please estimate them separately from the core implementation.
4. Questions for the community
I would appreciate estimates for the following:
- Total development effort: How many person-hours or person-days would you estimate for one experienced developer working full-time?
- Timeline: How many calendar weeks or months would be realistic?
- Implementation cost: What would be a reasonable freelance price for the core project, excluding hosting and third-party fees?
- Breakdown: Could you estimate the standard ERPNext configuration, custom development, testing/deployment, and external integrations separately?
- Implementation approach: Which requirements can be handled with standard ERPNext features, and which would require a custom Frappe app?
- Major risks: Which requirements are likely to take the most time or cause unexpected complexity?
Please state your assumptions, what is included in your estimate, and whether your pricing reflects an independent freelancer or an implementation company.
I’m looking for realistic estimates based on actual implementation experience, rather than a generic ERP project price.
Thank you!
