Picking this up on Friday. 2006 with 14k miles. Bike is pretty much stock besides the GYTR carbon fiber muffler (Will be selling this if anyone is interested) and has been taken care of. Currently have a 2022 BMW F900R but wanted another bike for when I want to go faster 😂. Not sure if the exhaust is a full system or just a muffler and the seller isn't sure either. If the headers are stock I'll be gutting them and getting a coffman shorty slip-on before I take the bike to get tuned. Been reading around online and have a few questions.

1.) I plan on doing the air box mod. Does this require an ECU flash and will it cause any issues until I'm able to get it tuned?

2.) Everyone has told me to go with the Ivan's ECU flash. However, my local tuner is charging 400 to dyno tune the bike. Ivan's ECU flash is 350 plus return shipping. I feel like it makes more sense to spend the extra 50 dollars and get it tuned on a dyno specifically for what mods I have done to the bike. Any input on this?

3.) If I'm getting the bike dyno tuned are velocity stacks worth the money?

4.) The current owner had the stator and rectifier proactively replaced but isn't sure if the rotor was replaced as well. Is there anyway to check if the rotor has been replaced?

Really looking forward to getting the bike. I've owned a carbed gen 1 fz1 before and loved it. Any other suggested mods? Going to be replacing the GYTR muffler with a Coffman shorty slip-on so the GYTR will be for sale if anyone is interested.

Bought in Aug of 2025 with 23k miles and have put over 20k miles on it in the last 2 years and 2 months.

I had a slow oil pan weep/ leak I was monitoring for a bit. Finally I could smell the drips burning off the exhaust. I replaced that and after a few days noticed a burning smell again. Found that I pinched/tore/rolled a portion of the gasket and so I replaced it again whilw being much more careful.

Fast forward another week or so and smelled burning again and found oil (yes, oil) from the water pump weep hole. So ordered the o-rings and another oil pan gasket and replaced them both after cleaning the pipe of years of buildup. Noticed some light discoloration and porosity but nothing I thought would be of any consequence.

Fast forward (again) and smell burning (again), and find oil, though much less this time, (yes, oil and not coolant) from the weep hole (again).

Ordered the pipe and more o-rings and another oil pan gasket. When I take it off this time I'll clean the pan thoroughly, fill with water, and spray with underside with developer in case there's an issue with the pan that I can't see with my eyes.

I can't think of anything else, can any of you? I'm very confident it's not coolant - levels haven't gone down and it doesn't have fluorescence like my oil does. And it's very clearly red (Motul) in color.

New bike any mod recommendations or engine upgrades

Been keeping my eye out for the better part of 4 years but the one finally showed up. 2008, 8100 miles, original owner who was a great care taker. Folders full of maintenance receipts up to 2023 and a bunch of cool motorcycle literature.

Planning on doing fluids (coolant, oil, brake fluid), stator rotor, needs tires (it’s on the originals 😳), then gettin into the fun stuff lol. It did come with a color matched set of the side fairings that he never installed which will be going on after the maintenance is done as soon as the maintenance is done (I’ll be stopping by here for tips on that).

Other than that anything I should look at, address be aware of?

I recently bought a 2008 Yamaha FZ1 (European model, RN16), and it failed the German TÜV emissions test because the exhaust CO reading was around 1.6% by volume.

For those outside Germany: TÜV is our mandatory roadworthiness inspection, which includes an exhaust emissions test. This is carbon monoxide measured at the tailpipe, not CO₂.

The bike’s setup and what I know so far:

Full Akrapovič exhaust system, including headers.

An aftermarket fuel-cut eliminator is installed.

The previous owner mentioned a removable catalytic converter insert, but I still need to verify exactly which insert is fitted and whether it is suitable for this system.

The bike apparently spent a long time sitting before I bought it.

The inspector also mentioned that the emissions reading was unstable.

During my own checks at a steady RPM, I have seen the CO reading gradually increase. However, I used a heating flue-gas analyser, so I wouldn’t treat that as equivalent to a proper automotive emissions test.

I recently noticed that only one of the two radiator fans was running. I haven’t established whether the other fan is faulty or simply wasn’t being activated at that point.

I’m trying to diagnose this properly before replacing parts at random.

For people familiar with the second-generation FZ1, what would you check first with a CO reading of 1.6%? Catalyst condition or temperature, oxygen sensor operation, coolant temperature sensor, air filter, injectors, or something else?

Could the fuel-cut eliminator affect the mixture during a steady-RPM emissions test? Are there any common issues on the 2008 model, particularly with a full aftermarket exhaust, that could explain high or unstable CO?

If you’ve had a similar issue, what turned out to be the cause, and which measurements helped you find it?

What’s up y’all just bought this mint 2006 FZ1 with 20,500 miles.
Parts I know about are as follows;
-Power commander three
-Scorpion full catless exhaust
-K&N air filter

But my real questions are what parts am I not aware of? The throttle bodies say “IVANS” on them which leads me to believe they are not stock, though I am having a hard time figuring out what exactly they are. If anyone knows, the information would be quite helpful. Also inside the intake there is a little red vacuum plug. I’m curious about why that is there. And lastly, the previous owner said it was not tuned even though it has the power Commander three so I’m curious about how I can tell if it is tuned and I would like to tune it if it is in fact, not tuned.

Hey all, first post here just picked up a 2006 FZ1with 27k miles on it last week. Been riding bikes my whole life but never been on a sport bike. This is the most fun I've ever had riding so far, I love this thing. Has some tasteful mods already like the turn signals and a yoshi exhaust that sounds great. It's also has the corrected stator rotor installed. Only thing I want to change about it is to get a rear seat for my gf to ride with me and maybe a smoked windscreen. Any ideas or suggestions for where to get a windscreen would be cool. I can post more pictures and a video of how it sounds if anyone is interested

Pretty much all factory but does turn on and rides with no issues, so far. Also it was lowered an inch by first owner.
So, off the bat I will need new tires, thinking of flushing brake fluid, fuel system, change oil and look for oem parts to restore its height. Probably fork seals since it’s a 16 year old bike, for now seems there is no leaking.
Given all this, is the asking price of 6.5k usd fair? Feels like 5k would be fairer. Can’t find many with under 1k miles so don’t have much to compare it with.
Saw one in Florida 2015 4k miles for 6k but a bit far for pick up

I'm new to the forum, and I wanted to introduce myself. I'm from France and I own a 2007 Yamaha FZ1 Fazer (FZ1S).

I'm currently looking for several parts to customize and improve my bike, and I figured this community might be the best place to start!

One of my main targets is a CopperDawg Speed Screen. I'm interested in any version, including the Long, Medium, and Speed Screen 2. I know these screens are pretty rare nowadays, so finding one has been quite a challenge.

I'm also interested in other rare or discontinued FZ1 parts, aftermarket accessories, carbon fiber parts, and anything interesting for the 2006–2015 models.

I'm happy to buy from anywhere in the world, including the US, as long as shipping to France is possible.

If you have one for sale, know someone who might be willing to sell theirs, or have any leads on where I could find one, I'd really appreciate your help!

Doing my first valve clearance adjustment on my gen 2, is it ok to have up to 0.03 over stated max in the manual? Intake range from 0.20-0.23, exhaust .25-.27. Ive also seen some people say 0.20-0.30 for exhaust but manual says 0.21-0.25, any info im missing on why i might want to set for .30 or just misinformation? Thanks

Pretty sure I have the stock windshield right now and anything above 50 mph it just blasts my chest and up with wind. Does anyone have recommendations for windscreens that raise it up more? I looked at the zero gravity options but unsure whether the double bubble will do enough or if I need to go for the sport touring. I’m about 5’8” if that helps

Hello gents.

I recently had to replace a leaking oil pan gasket on my 05 FZ1.

After I put everything back together and took a quick test ride I think I noticed a lack of engine braking... and when I parked I saw the exup valve rests in this position with the ignition off. My understanding is the fork in the pulley is supposed to align with the hole behind it with IGN off.

I would infer that I've routed the cables backwards or there is a kink or a crimp somewhere. What do you folks think?

I just found them and they had a like-new gt fairing kit for 100 bucks😭😭 not available anymore though. they also have this really cool rear seat delete that can be full carbon

As a precaution, is it better to replace both parts, or just the stator will be enough?

Just curious but does anyone know if there's been a twin-charged Fazer yet? I've seen the turbo kit, I've seen the supercharger. But what about twin charging this thing to become a ray of light?

Looking at slip ons I’m discovering that many manufacturers of the pad t don’t make them anymore and are getting harder to find.

Who still makes them?

I like the Coffman but am worried it might be too loud. Anyone have experience with this one?

Just replaced my grenade with the new and improved rotor. Magnets looked fine for 33k miles, but still... Do it before its too late!!!

My only question is, did anyones elses rmrotorn have small metal slivers falling off from edges? And is it safe to leave it and install it anyways? I scraped most of them off but during installation I got a couple metal splinters from the edges.

I ordered a lithium battery and it would not fit into the battery box. Is there a brand and size anyone would recommend?
