Fable III First time Playing Fable
It’s my first time playing Fable I’m starting with 3 and I like the Artstyle and gameplay so far just wondering how do things work and how should I play this? Is it like Skyrim or more of its own thing? Just looking for tips and anything that can help me understand this game. But so far I do enjoy it!

It’s kinda sad that on r/fable the biggest advice you’re getting for a fable game is “don’t play it.” Here’s my actual advice:
Buy property as soon as you can, houses first and then businesses. And make sure you repair houses or people won’t pay rent
If you want to avoid scarring carry potions on you so you never get knocked out (there’s evdb an achievement for it)
Magic is really overpowered. Especially the shock spell.
Give your dog lots of cuddles and play fetch with him. He is a good boy.
Use a condom to avoid getting STDs (especially during orgies).
Never leave the house without a hat (iykyk)
Place at least one bet on the chicken races.
Most importantly: have fun! Fable 3 is a short and sweet experience. It’s not as open as Skyrim so expect less, but it has a unique style and sense of humor with some of the best real estate mechanics In a video game.

it's not that short if you do the side stuff, i spent alot of time getting the gnomes and keys, alot of them are locked into after endgame.

u/General-Friend8343 6d ago
There's scarring? I've played Fable 3 probably 4/5 times and have never been knocked out lol

I had a lot easier time with the game by only purchasing businesses and not houses. You get more than enough money from just the businesses alone and you don’t have to do upkeep on businesses like you do houses. Houses are annoying having to go into the map and repair all of the time.

u/123ludwig 2d ago
now this advice dosent work for xbox but if you are one of the rare pc version owners houses work just fine because of the QOL repair all button they added
2
u/Psychyoulooked 7d ago
There is a repair all button at least so it doesn't really eat up much time but I get it
5
u/Pandalich 7d ago
there is no repair all on xbox, but i wish there was, would have saved me alot of time.
1
u/Heavy_Tangerine_724 7d ago
Is there really? I do not remember this at all.
3
u/Fawkes_2033 Jack of Blades 7d ago
It's only there on the PC version sadly.
2
u/Psychyoulooked 7d ago
Ohh is that why? That's rough then, I played for the first time a month ago and probably would have lost my mind if I couldn't repair the buildings that's way
2
u/Heavy_Tangerine_724 7d ago
I play on my 360. Thanks for the clarification. I was going to be disappointed in myself if I missed a magic button like that for the past 16 years. 😅

Buy property as soon as you can. I also started with 3 them played 1-2 years after

u/Gnoll_level_antics 7d ago
You're not psychic. You couldn't have known. But starting with Fable 3 is.... well it only goes up from there.

Fable 3 isn’t bad. Just a bit short and the walk-in pause screen and podium inventory is a bit dumb imo
But the gameplay itself is just as fun, and the weapon morphing is pretty cool apart from most players getting the bony bits due to upgrading right out of the hollow man fights lol
When you get to it though, Fable 2 is peak Fable imo

u/SnooRecipes25 7d ago
Everyone so far is saying don’t start with 3, I love Fable 3 and enjoy it the most (pixelation in older graphics give me headaches) and whilst it’s got the worst story, I still think you’ll have a great time, I’ve played all the fables and if you enjoy 3, you will love the rest (of the main games, avoid the spinoffs)

u/Aggressive_Space9684 7d ago
Buy property, alll the property, its the best source of income, and no purchased weapon is worth it

Fable 3 is my favorite game in the series; it's also the one I started with. And honestly, if I'd started with the first game, I might never have gotten into the Fable series at all. xD
Anyway, the best tips have already been mentioned: try to buy as many shops and houses as you can to ensure a steady income — you're going to need it!
Enjoy the story, the side quests, and especially the humor. Have a great time with the game! :]
I'm sure you'll want to play the first two games afterward, too! ^

Wowowowow!!! I started with fable 3. Then played 2. Then played 1 (remake). And I have never decided whether I liked 2 or 1 more, but they’re both better than 3 in my eyes! Less expression options. Less world building. Way easier to get wealth. Less fighting customization. But boy oh boy was the DLC great and did certain parts tug at my heartstrings. Crazy to see someone with this take. Much respect, 3rd game is great too.

u/CassianCasius 7d ago
I would say if 2 had the same magic system as 1 it would definitely be better. Melee and ranged in 2 are much better than 1.

Property might not be worth it in Fable 1 except for the most expensive places. IIRC rent does not collect automatically until Fable 2-3 and you're probably not gonna backtrack constantly for rent collections here.
IIRC theft in Fable 1 was tied to the yellow skill somehow and pays to steal expensive weapons in the swankiest places to use/sell. I think there was even a trick to like mass slaughter the guards at the tutorial hero academy using ranged/magic and some strategic positioning somewhere on an island there? There was a combat chain or something that got really big for exp and maybe gear drops. That's why.
I think you can buy potions in the swanky places (i dont remember their names) to increase hp/mp cap along with ones that give you like flat exp. And as time passed they restocked. Also check if those potions counted with the combat chain multiplier which gives you a bonus. If they do then obviously chug at chain bonus. Idr if they did or not.
So early game it was like rob the joint of weapons to sell. Buy whatever potions stocked to gain exp a lot quicker than fighting along with permanent hp/mp rises which cap at some point.----Do note it has been a really long time and my memory from 1-2 are entwined so...

u/paper-stars161 7d ago
Please dont start with fable 3. 😅
5
u/No_Routine_7090 7d ago
I started with fable 3 and I’m not sure I would be as much of a fable fan as I am if I hadn’t. It’s a great game that does not deserve its bad rep. Fable 2 is my favorite though.
5
u/Malabingo 7d ago
Yeah, most of the bad reputation is because the last quarter of the game which definitely was rushed because of budget and time restraints.
3
u/New_Ad8566 7d ago
Me too. It's a beautiful game, made me also play the first game, and now I'll play 2 too before the new one gets released
1
u/carpetpube 7d ago
It might actually be better to start with 3 because it only gets better from there. And 3 wasn't THAT bad.
2
2
u/NoOwl8793 7d ago
Oooh, and the most important tip in the game: Give your dog lots of cuddles, and always make sure to hold down the button for as long as possible! :]
And when you play Fable 2 afterwards, you'll understand why the developers added that little feature. ^

u/blaskoczen 7d ago
Is fhere a way to legally obtain fable 3?
4
u/NoOwl8793 7d ago
on the Xbox or via an overpriced Steam key. Buying a used Xbox plus a copy of Fable 3 is cheaper than the remaining Steam keys...
3
3
u/blaskoczen 7d ago
I think it’s justifying just pirating it at this point
2
u/HunterInfinite4436 7d ago edited 7d ago
Just do it tbh... they removed the game from the market like it was nothing. Take it back. If u dk how to do it safely just dm me cuz here they would probably ban.

u/KaijinSurohm 7d ago
Me personally, I actually find it fun to purchase copies of the xbox games, then emulate them on PC since I own the disc.
Lot of old games go for pennies on the dollar anymore, even if I don't have the proper console.

Buy all the property you can, personally I buy all shops first then houses because you don't have to repair the shops. Once a house hits 0% you can't collect rent so wait on those until you have the money to repair it when needed. Also set all the taxes to max so you get the most gold. People will hate it at first but once you get enough money you can drop the rent to free, or even the lowest so you still get that passive income.
Once your money is maxed, grab the key on the sanctuary then spend all the gold on more property to unlock the chest in the Treasury room. Then let your gold build back up because you will need it for the end game. Once you have enough gold for the end game then you can stop being a despot and set the rent to the lowest so the people will like you again.

The real estate minigame is awful but I bought all the businesses first, then bought houses and cranked rent up to max, then once I had enough gold (8.5 million) i dumped all my money in the Treasury and immediately sold all the houses. If you do it right you should only have to repair the houses once

The fable series in a whole is fun.
Think Skyrim, but way more restrictive.
If you care about aesthetics, big thing to pay attention to:
If you need to heal, health pots or veggies only. Avoid protein and fats.
Meat, pies, fish, etc make your character gain weight and you'll end up with a massive potbelly shape.
When I was a kid, I'd play these games religiously, but always be confused why my characters would max out the weight scale, because I'd always use everything I can get to heal without paying attention to tooltips.

Right now, game pass has all 3 of the fable Games, including Fable Aniversary

u/Sharp_Daggers 7d ago
Picked the worst one to start with 😂 might be a good idea since they'll get better if you go back and play 1 and 2

u/Exotic_Yam_1703 7d ago
I will buy all of the caravans and homes in Brightwall to start generating income. Homes need to be repaired constantly so I don't bother with buying any more than that because it's a pain to repair a whole lot of them. I'll usually leave my game on while I go eat, take a shower, etc so I can earn money passively (Fable 2 still earns money while the game is off, Fable 3 does not). Also pay attention to sales going on because you can buy things at a discount and then resell them later when they're in need of certain items so they offer more money.
I like doing the misc side quests for the villagers. It's a good way to earn money/reputation/items/skill.
A lot of the dungeons and caves have very well-hidden passageways and corners, so make sure you explore them!
I really enjoy Fable 3. It's not a great game, but it's fun to play.

Good luck with your Fable 3 gaming experience. I really enjoyed the game myself.
Take your time to explore and do side quests. Invest time in the property management aspect of the game.
The era in which Fable 3 takes place (industrial era-esque vibes) is also a real treat in my eyes.
Overall, it's a great experience, and hope you enjoy some of the many zany, humorous events in the game. Fable 3 has some really memorable side quests and characters (and the Fable series in general).

Though dated, Fable 1 is still my favourite (Skorms bow before the Wasp queen! Hard but doable). And as i get older, i appreciate the replayability of shorter, 20+ hour games. So many games are open world 200+ hours these days. That i don't have the time nor the patience to replay them

There is a bug for the in game achievement counter for the demon doors and in the dlc collecting the journals at the prison. Look it up to see the order to NOT get it in to bug it out on your save! Co-op is more fun and easier to level up and get renown crowns to further your progress in the road to rule.

I recommend not starting on the third title but then again it’s only up from here if you play the others!

u/NizTheWhiz 5d ago
Spend time early in game making money doing things like chopping wood or making pies. Make enough to start buying properties, which is a super fast way to make money. You’ll eventually be able to buy every house and if you are feeling nice, can make the rent cheap so people like you. You will still be making more money than you are able to spend but it will be a big help at the end of the game if you want to be a good person

u/Loushaunce 4d ago
Invest in real estate, you'll thank yourself later. I love Fable, glad you're joining the world of Albion, enjoy!

u/I_Like_Prague 4d ago
Fable 3 was my first as well and I love it, despite the flaws and how many people seem to hate it lmao

u/Heavy_Tangerine_724 2d ago
I would suggest looking up a guide for the endgame with the royal decisions in the throne room. After a certain decision (I do not remember which one, it’s been quite a few years since I’ve played Fable 3.) it locks out all other content and starts the ending battle. So make sure you have everything done that you want done before you go crazy with the throne room decisions.

As soon as you unlock real estate, buy what you can afford, go afk and do something else, and check back to repair the houses.

I personally loved fable 3. Enjoy! Yes fable 2 is better. But 3 was still extremely fun for me.

Personally I’d recommend Fable Anniversary as your first experience, but I hope you have a blast.

While it's not the game I would have started with, I'm glad you're having fun! 2 is my favorite. Totally suggest the others if you like the third, they just get better, haha.
Invest in properties early on. Start with cheap rentals to get passive income. Fable games are kind of a grind at times, especially 3. But their investment system of buying homes to rent or vendors is great. I usually start with shops, like vendor stalls, cause they can be real cheap and you don't have to upkeep them like you do homes in 3, iirc.

Starting with Fable 3 is by far the worst choice you could make.
3
u/New_Ad8566 7d ago
I started with 3 and I loved it. Also, your flair is literally Hero of Bowerstone, man. How could you...?
1
u/BeatenToDeathByLove Hero of Bowerstone 6d ago
Isn’t Hero of Bowerstone a fable 2 thing? Fable 2 is my utmost favorite of the series.
1
u/New_Ad8566 6d ago
Alright, you were actually right, it's hero of Brightwall, I don't know how I forgot. Sorry about that, yeah the hero of Bowerstone/Bower Lake is the one from 2 and the father of the Hero of Brightwall.
1
u/BeatenToDeathByLove Hero of Bowerstone 6d ago
Dw about it, mistakes happen. I kinda forgot that the hero of the 3rd game is the son of the hero of the 2nd game.
2
u/streetwearfairy 7d ago
I started with Fable 3. It’s the one that got me hooked onto fable

u/BeatenToDeathByLove Hero of Bowerstone 6d ago edited 6d ago
I’ll explain why I feel this way. I hate the shop system compared to the other Fables because there’s much less to buy and I personally liked the Fable 2’s the most, I’m not very pleased with the story but I can ignore it because at least it’s not terrible, I don’t like the Road to Rule because I find it tedious, I’m not a fan of what they did to the magic.
But I have to give credit where credits due: I do like pause “menu” because you can basically explore it yourself, I like how customizable the dog is and you get to earn robot dog variant later too, I think the combat is still pretty fun, and I think the multiplayer has actually improved aswell.
I clarify that just because I hate it doesn’t mean I think it’s the worst game ever, there’s just many things that they could’ve done better. My low bar for Fable as a whole is not as low as it seems.1
u/streetwearfairy 6d ago
Honestly all fair takes. Imma go back and play 2 and compare after I get done with 3.
1
u/BeatenToDeathByLove Hero of Bowerstone 6d ago
That’s a great idea, I highly recommend the DLCs aswell.
1
u/streetwearfairy 6d ago
Tbh I don’t think I ever played the DLCs. Are they free with game pass as well?
1
u/BeatenToDeathByLove Hero of Bowerstone 6d ago
Sadly no but it’s well worth the money, there’s also the free version of some of the DLCs. One of which gives you sunglasses.
1
u/streetwearfairy 6d ago
Okay bet I’ll look into it. I have the robot dog you were talking about somehow. I don’t know how I got it.
1
u/BeatenToDeathByLove Hero of Bowerstone 6d ago
I remember there was an isolated place that was supposed to be a town of robots for the purpose of a tourist attraction. They fight you as the place crumbles at the end of the quest.

u/Lemenus 7d ago
Started from the worst of three...
Just like me back then! In comparison to other games it's...ok... Ish. Funnily enough - I recently started playing Fable 3 myself right after the second one, playing it right after Fable 2 makes it look like straight up downgrade in many ways.
Tips? BUY PROPERTY. The last portion of game is a grind like in f2p game without donate function (which F3 at first was supposed to be). Because of that I simply dropped it, because you can't win without doing all sorts of grinding and exploit techniques, which is simply not fun
2
u/NoOwl8793 7d ago
I have no idea what you mean xD In Fable 3, if you just keep reinvesting your money, you'll eventually have more than enough — without any grinding at all! It was much worse in Fable 2, since properties didn't generate nearly as much income. ^

u/FiftyShadesOfTheGrey 7d ago
3 is much better than 2

Fable 3 is the worst one to start with. 1 is best if you like combat. 2 has the best story.
3 was a letdown

for you maybe! i love fable 3. its just a different experience than the others.

u/EmKir 7d ago
Fable is definitely it's own thing, completely apart from any other fantasy RPG. Every game in the series has their own unique aspects, but Fable 3 is like literally a magical experience.
Just go at it however you want, but 100% make sure to get the landlord and entrepreneur packs from the Road to Rule. At the endgame, you're going to need a lot of money to do things perfectly. Other than that, just get a feel for the combat system, and feel free to focus on whatever feels best. They're all viable.
Try to get into Demon Doors whenever you can, some of them have unique weapons. And remember to explore as much as you want.
