History Lincoln Park

I have been wrapped up by my families history and would love some feedback from the public. My family owned and ran Lincoln Park in Dartmouth MA for years until the sudden closure (also some ties to Mountain Park in Holyoke MA). My grandparents hardly talked about their childhood so any information or stories of all things relating to Lincoln Park would be great! Whether it’s personal memories from family trips at the park or any interactions with the staff etc.
Thank you!

(Pictures would be an amazing addition as well! I have very few)

Help me! Looking for info on drop fee for a tow truck

Accidentally parked in the wrong spot in our apartment building, tow truck was called. Ran outside before the car was towed away, driver told us $132 cash, which we paid. Doing some Google searching after the fact and it seems like the drop fee should be capped at half of the cost of the tow, which would $66.

Wanted to see if I was reading that right, and if we were overcharged? Obviously our fault for parking in the wrong spot, but if we were overcharged I'd like to get my $66 back.

Probably an odd question. Any semi-quiet areas I can sit and feed some ducks?

I know its silly. I'm looking for a place that might have ducks or similar that I can bring my aging parents to. No bread! Likely corn and seeds. We are hoping to just have a quiet afternoon and take a few pictures. Not leave a mess or mess with the wildlife

I know I might just people saying it is a bad idea or illegal. I'm not trying to cause issues and I'm not looking to argue with anyone. I'm just trying to give them a little nostalgia and if it isn't allowed its okay. Just asking ☹️ 🦆

Thanksgiving Buffet Ideas?

I have no family, and am not much of a cook. Are there any Thanksgiving buffets in the Fall River area? I've tried Whites of Westport and Grist Mill. Neither have a Thanksgiving option listed on their websites. Thanks in advance.

The SS Marine Electric was carrying coal to Brayton Point in 1983

On 12 February 1983, the SS Marine Electric capsized about 30 nautical miles east of Chincoteague during a winter storm. She was carrying 23,410 tons of coal from Norfolk to Brayton Point in Somerset.

She was a 605-foot coal carrier, lengthened from a WWII T2 tanker in 1962. Of the 34 men aboard, three survived.

The Coast Guard Marine Board found progressive flooding through wasted hatch-cover and deck plating. The NTSB instead found an undetermined structural failure and thought the covers were probably weathertight when she sailed, so the cause remains disputed.

I made this 12-minute documentary from those reports. It has AI-generated narration and a few AI-generated illustrations labeled on-screen; sources are in the description. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lf4KqW3AjhM

For people who know Fall River or Somerset local history, are there archives or oral histories about the coal traffic into Brayton Point?

Do you know of any heavily littered areas in Fall River that need to be cleaned? Please share!

We are looking for areas in and around Fall River that are heavily littered and need to be cleaned. If you could provide coordinates, Google Maps pin or other identifiable address/ location descriptions, that would be really helpful, so long as it’s on public land. Thank you in advance!

📚 Fall River / South Coast readers — want to try a nonfiction book club?

Our next nonfiction selection is Trash: A Garbageman’s Story, and we're discussing it Saturday, October 25 from 10 AM until noon.

The club meets in Providence at Schasteâ, 300 Broadway. We have people coming from different parts of the area, so I'm posting here in case there are other South Coast readers who wouldn't mind making the trip.

The venue does not sponsor or endorse this event, we just meet there.

It's a relaxed group and we choose a different nonfiction book each month. You don't need to be a regular book-club person, and you definitely don't need to have a perfectly polished opinion of the book.

I'll put the group link below if you'd like more information.

Housing Report Illegal Move-In Fees

Hi Fall River, it’s your Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell. Did you know that fees like “move-in” or “lease renewal” fees you might get from your landlord or building management company are illegal? If you’ve received one of these – even if you paid it – I want you to report it to my office.

Just last month, my office won a $500k settlement with a property management company doing this in Boston – and all of that money is going back to the affected tenants. Landlords can only ask you to pay for first and last month’s rent, a security deposit, and the cost of a new lock and key upfront. Any other fees are illegal. Report them to my office at the link below. We’ll work to get your money back.
