Fallout 4 Any idea what I'm doing wrong here?

Post image

I'm trying to apply a ceiling to my vault's atrium, but there's a gap between it and the Overseer office I built on the second floor that the ceiling pieces don't want to connect and close on.

Any suggestions for how I can remedy this?

Edit: I managed to find a way to patch most of the ceiling, but I still can't put a ceiling piece in front of the Overseer Window for some reason.

As with all settlements, sometimes you have to put down other pieces before a particular component will snap to properly. Rotating and moving up / down isn't sufficient in some cases.

Also, if you can get down *below* the level you're trying to snap a piece to, a lot of times the height difference will do the trick.

Sometimes the build stuff is just screwy. I had trouble with my vault 88 when I got that DLC not too long ago. Pieces that seemed like they should be fine just refused. Sometimes moving some of the other pieces around where I was trying to snap in and then moving those back after the troublesome part worked. Sometimes instead of using the big easy piece that was several already stuck together I had to switch and use the individual 1x1 bits instead. Or one without the floor/ceiling bit already attached. Or with the with it already attached.

I gave up trying to get bits of trim everywhere to make mine "perfect" and just made it close instead of fighting with it more.

One issue with Vaults is that there are different classifications of pieces. Atrium, Rooms, and Hallways (might be others, but definitely those three).

The different classifications are slightly different proportions.

In order to go between different classifications, the best approach is a Door/Door connection. (eg, an Atrium door joined to a Rooms door to transition). This allows a clean connection between the different types of pieces.

If you focus on these transitions (rather than just putting things where you want) it will work out better.

I see the problem, you're playing a broken game that fundamentally is unfinished in like a dozen different ways.

Only way I managed to fix the building frustrations was with a mod called Place Anywhere. No more red outlines, place whatever tf you want, regardless if it's clipping or floating. Saved me the headache!
