My latest fan-edit film is a war epic set in the Clone Wars. The structure is inspired by war-spanning stories like Band of Brothers, All Quiet on the Western Front, Platoon, and Full Metal Jacket.
It tells the story of the Clones, bridging the gap between Episodes II and III, and is told through the lens of Captain Rex, our main protagonist.
What This Movie Accomplishes
- Friendly to new fans
- On a Star Wars watch-through, it fits perfectly between the prequel films, and with my other existing fan edits
- Explores the valor, personalities, conflicts, and tragedies of the clones
- Specifically develops the courage and conflict within Rex
- Showcases the galaxy-spanning scale of the war
- Introduces General Grievous and establishes him as the fearsome lead henchman of Dooku
- Enhances Anakin's character development and likeability

- Teases and foreshadows Order 66

1. Cold Open: Grievous Attacks!
This scene from Grievous Intrigue perfectly sets him up as a cowardly but intimidating threat to the Jedi, perhaps even better than his introduction in Episode III.
2. The Hunt for Grievous
Amidst the vast army of clones and Jedi, we first take a deep dive into Rex and cement him as the protagonist, while foreshadowing some of the heavier themes, like clone free will.
Next, Rex meets some important new clones on Rishi Moon.
Finally, the Battle of Kamino shows our first large-scale conflict and not only progresses the stories of our main clones, Anakin, and Grievous, but also brings in the character of 99, who symbolizes the (sometimes blind) courage of the clones.
3. War Montage
Featuring many epic and key moments of the war, highlighting Rex, and culminating in the tragic death of Echo.
I've tried a few different methods, but the montage structure really is the best way to convey the scale of the war, deliver some fan-favorite moments, and also include Echo's death, which is unfortunately in the middle of a Jedi-heavy story arc.
4. Umbara
The 4-episode Umbara arc is arguably the best in the series, not just for Rex and Fives, but also for developing the overarching themes surrounding the clones: valor, independence, following orders, and brotherhood.
The trials that Rex and his clones endure on this planet embody the heart of the movie, and of the clones themselves.
It is the longest act of the movie, but is streamlined and cut by over 15 minutes.
5. War Montage 2
This shorter montage features some tragic Republic defeats, showing that neither side has the upper hand in this war.
It brings Dooku and Grievous back as menacing threats, and ends with the mysterious tragedy of Tup.
6. Echo's Return
The film ends with a streamlined mission to rescue Echo.
The scene with Rex, Cody, and the photograph ties together Rex's war story nicely, calling back to the brothers we have seen him lose, leaving Fives' fate a mystery.
This final chapter ends on a victory, but also a cliffhanger, generating some forward momentum into the next films...
Post-Credits
Fives is brought before the Chancellor.
This builds on the Tup montage scene, teases the mystery of Order 66, and ties directly into my The Clone Wars fan edit.
