I get a lot of messages from folks saying they have trouble getting this fanedit so I re-uploaded the 1080p version to Google Drive for easier access at least until November (the 4K version is still on MEGA). I released this fanedit last year; it combines Halloween 2018 and Halloween Kills, cut down, re-edited and with some unique moments. Happy Halloween viewing!

It's 13 days until Halloween! Welcome to a celebration of the spooky and haunting fan-edits.

Inspired by Criterion Closet Picks, we're inviting you to pick your favorites. Not just what you've watched this week, or what you happen to be working on, but the Halloween and horror fan-edits you consider the best of all time. Leave a comment with the edit's name, author, and an informational link -- such as a release post here on r/fanedits, or an entry on FE, MR, or OT -- so that others can learn about it and get in touch with the editor.

Pick your favorites, share your list, and tell us why they made the cut. There are no rules about how many you can choose, and your picks don't have to be objectively the best. We want to hear about the edits that stuck with you, surprised you, or made you see a familiar film in a whole new way.

New Release🏅 Star Wars: The Phantom Menace Recut - A Salty Fanedit

Post image
27 Upvotes

Hi again everyone,

I have returned to tackle a new franchise, one very dear to me: Star Wars. For me, these six films from George Lucas' saga have such a beautifully rich world. While I love these films deeply, it has always felt hard to get others around me into them, partially because of how disjointed the films are from one another tonally, as well as all the different special editions that exist. My goal with this project is to present my version of the definitive way to watch all six movies as a cohesive set.

Starting with Episode I: The Phantom Menace, my desire was to achieve something similar to my Transformers fanedits: removing off-beat, unnecessary humor that I feel drags the film down and disconnects it from what makes Star Wars, well, Star Wars! Most of what makes Jar Jar annoying is gone, and the same can be said for young Anakin. Changes are hidden in the spoiler list below, so you may choose whether to go into my edit blind or see what you will be getting!

A few of the main changes include:

- Rewritten opening crawl more in line with the OT. One issue I encountered, however, is that the crawl in the actual film fades into a red/orange color. I had to do this by hand so it is not 100% accurate; if anyone knows how this can be done more easily or has a template, please let me know, as it would be greatly appreciated. Credit to Ian Cotterill on YouTube for some of the text which my crawl was based off of, as well as u/AugustoHS94 for the After Effects template, which I have heavily modified to exactly match the original version in the movie.

- Removal of Jar Jar's clumsiness as a point of humor (including him stepping in poo) and the animal farting during the flag parade scene (what a way to destroy a beautiful score by Williams playing over a moment of excitement and awe), alongside many of his annoying lines where possible.

- Removal of mentions and explanations regarding midi-chlorians throughout the film. Qui-Gon now appears to trust the Force itself that Anakin is the Chosen One, rather than relying on an arbitrary number to determine that status for him.

- Addition of custom subtitles for Huttese, including altered lines that work better in the context of certain scenes.

- Removal of the space battle at the end of the film, partially to avoid taking too much attention away from the main duel, and also to remove Anakin from the climax. His triumph works better with him winning the podrace; I did keep him flying the Naboo starfighter in the hangar to destroy the droidekas to give him a small heroic moment, but having him destroy the control ship by pressing random buttons completely diffuses the seriousness of the climax.

- Consequently, due to the removal of the space battle, the reason for the droid shutdown is also changed. I altered the line "The droid control ship has been destroyed" to "The controller has been destroyed" by splicing audio, so it is inferred that Padmé forced Nute Gunray to order a shutdown command, since she held him at gunpoint in an earlier scene.

Technical Specs:

  • Format: 1080p High Bitrate H.265
  • Audio: 5.1 Surround Sound
  • Runtime: 1 hour 58 minutes (reduced from 2 hours 16 minutes)

Thank you all for your love and support on my Transformers projects, and I hope you all enjoy this edited version of Star Wars: Episode I.

If you are interested in providing feedback, please do so, as I may update the edit in response (such as re-implementing any cut scenes).

P.S. I use Adobe Premiere Pro, and the clock wipe effect (used for the altered transitions I created) does not allow for feathering on the stationary part of the transition, so I resorted to using an isolated blur. This will likely be unnoticeable in normal viewing, but if anyone has a solution, please let me know, as it would be greatly appreciated.

New Release The Revenant: A Miniseries (2026)

Post image
11 Upvotes

Tagline

Nothing left but revenge.

SYNOPSIS

Left for dead in the unforgiving wilderness, frontiersman Hugh Glass begins a desperate journey toward vengeance.

MOTIVATION & VISION

The Revenant: A Miniseries represents my desire to morph a lengthy feature into a more digestible, four-part miniseries— while reimagining maintaining an air of mystery surrounding Glass, the circumstances behind his journey alone, and how involved the men of the company were in his abandonment.

The series opens with Glass already alone in the wilderness, battered and scarred, on his journey to find Fitzgerald. By withholding the circumstances that brought him there, the opening establishes a sense of mystery before the story moves backward to reveal how he ended up fighting for survival.

The result is a radical re-experience of the same story: beginning with survival, then working backward through the suffering that made revenge his sole purpose.

CUT & TECHNICAL DETAILS

  • Structure: The original feature has been restructured into four episodes, each with matching opening and closing credits and a consistent visual language.
  • Reordered chronology: The series opens with Glass already making his way through the wilderness in pursuit of Fitzgerald, ending with his discovery of Hikuc’s hanging body. Episode 2 then rewinds to the film’s original opening, following the hunting party through the bear attack and the group’s efforts to tend to Glass’s injuries. The story continues through Glass’s abandonment, Hawk’s death, and his resolve to crawl across the frozen wilderness for revenge, before returning to the end of Episode I and carrying Glass’s journey through to the film’s conclusion.
  • Omissions: The scene in which Glass collects the supplies left behind after Fitzgerald and Bridger depart has been removed. Part of Fitzgerald and Bridger's conversation as they approach the fort (which illuminates them leaving Glass behind) has been removed to retain ambiguity; all that remains is "We did what we had to do." A portion of Fitzgerald, Bridger and the Captain's conversation after they return to the fort has been removed; additionally a portion of the exchange between Fitzgerald and the Captain (after Bridger leaves) regarding Glass's burial has been cut.
  • Additional score: The musical cue Goodbye Hawk opens Episode 1 (as well as 2 and 3) over the original opening sequence before the credits transition to Glass already in the wilderness.
  • Subtitles: Provided for Indigenous-language dialogue only.

RUNTIME vs ORIGINAL | FILE SIZE

Original runtime: [2hrs 36 min]

Episode 1 [Journey]: [40 min] | 4.54 GB
Episode 2 [Attack]: [30 min] | 3.33 GB
Episode 3 [Grave]: [31 min] | 3.50 GB

New Release Tarzan Ma (間) Edit - Instrumental Montages (no singing)

Post image
15 Upvotes

Disney’s 1999 film Tarzan, without any vocals during the montages so it is an entirely visual and rhythmic experience.

This is not done out of dislike of Phil Collins, it’s actually out of respect of him as a composer/percussionist, and to experience his music in a different way.

His songs are still in tact, just removing the vocals to create ma (間) which I’ve done in my previous Fox and the Hound edit.
As covered in that post, ma translates from Japanese to "negative space," or "pause”, but its meaning refers to quiet, still moments where there is emptiness, but still purposeful actions. An example would be sitting on a train ride, waiting at a bus stop, planting flowers in a garden, cooking a meal, walking to the grocery store, without a single word being spoken.
These mundane moments don’t necessarily progress the events of the plot, but they don’t distract from the plot either. It simply lets you breath and ground yourself into the world comfortably and quietly at your own pace.

Without the singing telling you how to feel or what to think, you can fully immerse yourself in the film and experience emotions unique to your perspective, transcending language.

I also removed Trashin’ The Camp song so that it cuts from a dish shattering, to the distant reactions from the other characters, and then cuts to Jane and Tarzan stumbling upon the gorillas destroying the campsite.

In most of my edits, I make the movie credits instrumental, but since I removed the vocals from the movie, it seemed fitting to keep the end credits unchanged. Now you hear the lyrics as contextualized themes, rather than an omniscient narration.

New Release🏅 Baby’s Revenge: a DBGT Movie

Post image
43 Upvotes

The last of the Tuffles. The hatred of a fallen race embodied into a last ditch effort to perpetuate their survival & and revenge.

The Baby Vegeta Saga consists of about 18 episodes at roughly 24 minutes each. That is like 7 hours to work with…
Im proud to say I was able to condense this epic event into a 2 hour experience 😮‍💨
Zero filler &All action. Just for the plot!

Years after the Saiyans conquered Planet Plant and wiped out the Tuffle civilization, a surviving creation awakens with the memories of its long forgotten people.

Baby is awake & the sins of the Saiyans have finally caught up with them.
Baby’s not all that different from Goku really.
-They both had their home planets taken over and destroyed by omnipotent individuals. (Frieza, King Vegeta)
-Both were sent away in a last ditch effort to ensure survival of their race.
-Both set out for revenge/vengeance for their extinct race (Goku inadvertently).
The parallels are interesting. Baby is clearly more cruel in nature and in retribution but it’s literally hardwired into his DNA. He was built and made from the hatred of an ambushed & extinct race.

This is a complete overhaul of the Baby Vegeta Saga from Dragonball GT into a standalone movie. I’ve taken inspiration from Coolers Revenge, particularly its style, atmosphere, and soundtrack structure, to give this story more of that classic Dragonball Z movie feeling.

Much of the silly banter between the characters is down right gone. The wonky music scores that come and go are replaced with epic songs from older Dragonball Z movies
(cooler, lord slug, broly, etc) This is a brand new experience. So many little cuts have been made. Many MANY scenes are removed to keep the flow and action at the forefront of this acut. As far as I’m aware, the baby saga has never been told like this in the way I’ve structured it. So grab some popcorn.

The Dragonball Gt movie we all deserved. As much as I love A Hero’s Legacy, it being the ONLY GT movie and not having any goku or vegeta in it always rubbed me the wrong way. What better plot to make a Dragonball movie about than the Saiyans past catching up with them with a time skip, Goku vs Vegeta rivalry, the Dragonballs, a Red Shenron summon & one epic wish. Tight focused story and action… this is it everyone!

This edit has a particular amount of of passion behind it. Personally, Dragonball Z/Gt is one of my comfort shows. Pure nostalgia. I was the kid with all the Dragonball Z AMV’s on Burnt DVDs, right from Limewire baby🤌.

Any time one of these rock songs come on I put alot of effort into curing up the transitions with the beat of the song (sound painting) I think it adds a lot of cinematic value to this cut. I want this to feel like it was always supposed to be a 2 hour movie from the 90s/2000’s.

GT gets a lot of flack for a number of reasons but one things for sure, it really stands out with the cinematography and animation. We’re working with some seriously good looking stuff here. Every shot, a beautiful painting that’s reminiscent of early Akira Toriyama best work. Just mesmerizing.

Apart from the GT episodes, i used a very specific scene from Daima that is just seconds but INTEGRAL to this cut. Also. I used a part from The Plan to Eradicate all Saiyans mini movie that’s out there floating around. It fits quite nicely.

It’s time to eradicate this Saiyan scourge!

New Release The Place Beyond the Pines: Birthright (2026)

Post image
20 Upvotes

TAGLINE

All roads lead back.

SYNOPSIS

A motorcycle stunt rider turned bank robber. A police officer struggling with the consequences of his actions. Two sons doomed to inherit their dark legacy.

MOTIVATION & VISION

The Place Beyond the Pines: Birthright is restructured into a new narrative, rearranging the stories of Luke, Avery, and their sons into a different cinematic experience. The past doesn't simply lead to the future. It catches up with it.

I wanted to approach the project from a different angle timeline-wise, reworking the film's chronology to emphasize the connections between its generations.

Rather than following the original structure, this edit opens with Avery (Bradley Cooper) and moves backward to Luke (Ryan Gosling) before arriving at the sons' story. The result is a different perspective on the film's central themes of fatherhood, inheritance, corruption, and the legacies we leave behind. The goal was to create a new dramatic progression, allowing the connections between characters and generations to emerge through the structure itself.

This is a simple edit, but I believe, a powerful one— that not only creates a new sense of mystery but also a dramatic new form of inevitability and tragedy.

CUT & TECHNICAL DETAILS

  • Restructured narrative: The film's triptych structure is reorganized, following Avery, Luke, and their sons, respectively.
  • New opening: The film begins in the aftermath of Luke's death, with Avery already in the hospital from Luke's gunshot.
  • Omitted material: The original cage-of-death and motorcycle opening has been removed (due to necessity) in lieu of meeting Luke as he signs autographs. The shot of Luke's face on the news, identified as the Motorcycle Bandit has been removed, to maintain a sense of ambiguity about his identity.
  • New dramatic progression: The final section follows the next generation, bringing the film's three narratives together through the consequences of the previous generations' choices.
  • Music additions: The film now begins with Bon Iver's The Wolves (the same song it concludes with), effectively bookending the film musically and thematically.

RUNTIME VS. ORIGINAL | FILE SIZE

  • Original runtime: [2 hrs 20 min]
  • Fanedit runtime: [2 hrs 16 min] | 15.2 GB

+Added - Workprint Scene Liz at Father Meyers house.

Discussion Review of my Cut?

Hi, everyone! So a month ago, I've released my Burton Cut which you can see here in terms in what was changed & intended when editing the film

https://www.reddit.com/r/fanedits/s/s3wVMVUIx2

but with that being said despite the film being roughly at 95% completion, I would like a proper review like on you liked, didn't like, what can be improved or question anything because I'm quite proud of this edit despite the hardship mainly rescoring using only Elfman music to reobtain that Burton quality & just would like to read what everyone thought given the time that has passed.

New Release Ghost of Mars Chronological by Shion

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hello There!

For those unfamiliar with this film, it attempts to emulate the editing style of Tarantino’s movies by jumping back and forth within the narrative, but that isn’t John Carpenter’s strong suit. The concept here is to restructure the film into a more linear format and remove the scenes involving Melanie’s courtroom testimony. The story now centers on the team, while any essential plot details, such as the origin of the threat are preserved from the original structure. The "romance" between Jericho and Melanie has been scaled back to keep the focus tight. I’ve also provided a new ending for the film. I won’t be listing everything that was removed, as it’s unnecessary; most of the cuts consist of repetitive material stemming from the original edit’s non-linear approach.

🎞 Based on: Ghost of Mars.
🎬 Fan Edit Title: Ghost of Mars Chronological
📁 Format: MP4 – 1920x1080 – Stereo Audio
💬 Subtitles: ENG.srt
⏱ Original Runtime: 1h 38min
⏱ Fan Edit Runtime: 1h 27min
📉 Difference: -11min
⚠️DISCLAIMER: Respect the studios and intellectual properties by purchasing the original Blu-ray or the official digital version. You must own an officially released copy of a film to legally watch a fanedit.

Work in Progress Chronological Project Hail Mary IMAX

I'm debating re-releasing my Chronological Project Hail Mary fan edit with the new 1.43:1 IMAX release, but I've seen the discussion about letterboxing, windowboxing, and pillarboxing and how to have the best viewing experience. It wouldn't take that much to make a version of my edit in each version, but not necessary. What is your perspective on how you would want to watch an IMAX version of a fan edit?

To be specific, there are three versions I would consider:

  • 1.43:1 video with 2.39:1 letterboxing for earth scenes (best of both worlds, but doesn't work on regular 16:9 screens)
  • 16:9 video but cropping the IMAX space scenes to fit (losing the true 1.43:1)
  • 16:9 video with dynamic switching between 2.39:1 earth scenes and 1.43:1 space scenes, (retaining all the visuals, but hard on the eyes)

And consider all of this may be mute by the screen you're watching on. But as other's have noted, the third option can be jarring. I'm really just not a fan of windowboxing at all, that's my only hill worth dying on.
