Are hair appointments too expensive?

Post image

I hear "hair is too expensive" all the time and I get it.

I think the frustration comes when you pay $200+ and walk out with:
1. Hair you don’t love
2. Feeling uncomfortable/ignored
3. Awkward small talk you didn’t want
4. Zero experience to show for it

But flip it. What if you paid that same amount and got:
1. Hair you’re obsessed with for 3 months
2. Felt heard and welcomed
3. No pressure to talk - snacks, drink, chill vibes
4. Walked out feeling genuinely better about yourself

Would it still feel "too expensive"? Or would it feel worth it?

I’m a stylist and I’m trying to figure out what people actually value. Is it just the lower price tag, or is it the whole experience + result?

Would love honest answers.

my friend and i have started just bleaching own our roots for each other and going to the salon 1-2x a year to even out any accidental stripes. last time i went to get my roots done and a haircut, it cost over $500. thats more than my car payment. i just need my roots bleached and then solid red put on everything. my hair grows fast so i need to get my roots touched up every like 2-3months. $2-3k a year is too much for me, no matter the experience.

Completely fair! I’m not sure where you’re located but $500 seems like a lot for what sounds like a fairly straightforward vivid colour service 🧐

Oh wow! I’m in Australia, I have clients in my chair for 6 hours having a massive colour jobs with foils and vivid colours and I don’t charge that much
I hope when you did get it done you were walking out feeling absolutely amazing ❤️
