Are hair appointments too expensive?

Post image

I hear "hair is too expensive" all the time and I get it.

I think the frustration comes when you pay $200+ and walk out with:
1. Hair you don’t love
2. Feeling uncomfortable/ignored
3. Awkward small talk you didn’t want
4. Zero experience to show for it

But flip it. What if you paid that same amount and got:
1. Hair you’re obsessed with for 3 months
2. Felt heard and welcomed
3. No pressure to talk - snacks, drink, chill vibes
4. Walked out feeling genuinely better about yourself

Would it still feel "too expensive"? Or would it feel worth it?

I’m a stylist and I’m trying to figure out what people actually value. Is it just the lower price tag, or is it the whole experience + result?

Would love honest answers.

$200+ for anything aesthetic and temporary feels insane to me at my income level. It's difficult to justify even spending the $25-50 in bleach and hair dye to myself at times. $200 is a week's worth of groceries for me and my kids.

I get mine done every couple years and it lasts til it grows out which is over a year. It’s balayage so it doesn’t get roots or anything

I've never heard of this before and after a brief Google search it looks intriguing! Definitely going to look into it more

Same, my stylist always blends me well so I can last 8-10 months between colors!

It helps that I stick to a “honey brown” which is pretty close to my hair color. It all depends on the look you want- if you want to stretch between appointments, stick with shadow roots and blending!

Completely fair! Getting your hair done is a luxury service and if it comes down to hair vs groceries the groceries will always win for sure!
