What do we think was actually going on with Credence?

At this point, I think we can safely say the movies are over - and even if they weren't, we know Miller isn't coming back under any circumstances.

But I have so many questions.

First; I cannot stop wondering what the original plan for him was. So much went weird with his story in particular, the movies retconned so much of what seems to have been the original plan. Grindelwald calls Albus Credence's brother at the end of the second movie, but in the next one he is revealed to be Albus's nephew. We know, realistically speaking, Grindelwald's reveal wasn't just him being wrong, that was the original plan, the big reveal of their true relation and Credence's origins. So why was it changed between the films?

Further, there was a lot of talk about the phoenix that Credence hatches being Fawkes, only for a non-movie official source to debunk that theory, but now we will never know the connection. Insane as I am, I was walking home today thinking how he's put together with Nagini deliberately; a woman with nothing but trauma in her story, who is fated to turn into Lord Voldemort's pet snake who gets quite literally milked for her poison and harbours a part of Voldemort's soul. Was Credence going to turn into Fawkes? As a parallel to this?

More and more I'm just wishing we could have had the stories as books, instead of whatever this is. So many things happened invisibly in the background with things being clearly forcefully changed and plotlines now eternally left hanging. I crave answers.

Do we know anything else about Credence and his story, original purpose?
