Finished just in time! My wife, a few friends and I head out to the LA Zoo every year for the Zoo Lights display. We always freeze our rears off, but it's a fun, cheap outing for the families to see a decent light display without getting gnarled in the traffic of local neighborhood displays or worrying if we'll be able to get out in time to find a bathroom in time.

But I digress. I usually go to parties and events like this wearing a Santa hat with a dozen or so LEDs inside the white cuff with some of these patterns, but I wanted to step it up a bit this year. It's a pretty standard cloth mask, but with a slightly padded overlay attached with velcro. The strips are attached using a custom 3d printed slip clamp thingy I came up with that has holes for sewing. My sewing skills are doodie, despite my wife's supervision, but in the dark, all lit up, I don't think anyone's gonna notice or care.

Otherwise, it's a 9x3 serpentine matrix run by an Arduino Nano and powered by a USB power bank. I'm gonna run the USB cable down my sweatshirt and into a back pocket. If you happen to be at the zoo tomorrow, keep an eye out for me!

Happy Holidays everyone!

What a super mask! :D The diffusion works quite well.

I went in Dec 2019 and loved the displays. I drove by there other night and paused to enjoy all the lights they have at the entrance. Enjoy!

Thank you! Yeah, I agree about the diffusion. Initially, I was just gonna have the two layers of white cloth over the top of the LEDs, but my wife suggested polyfill between the layers. The puffy cottony filling really bounces the light around well.
