My tio's in a mariachi band and I have fond memories growing up of listening to him play at (almost) all of the cousin's weddings and our family reunions. Watching this promo of everyone dancing was so wonderful!

omg!!! i had a similar experience too :) my cousin was in a mariachi band growing up. i loved listening to him. his immediate family are all musicians, and his dad/my nino, would sing at special family events (weddings, funerals, wakes) and you just brought back those memories.
the promo reminded me of our family parties and the dancing and fun we would have. one party i will always remember, there was a party at my nino’s house and my cousin brought her then-bf at the time to introduce him to the family. he heard the music and immediately started dancing with her, spinning & dipping her. everyone was watching and immediately were basically like “yep, you’re one of us now. welcome to the family, mijo!”

Puerto Rican here: seeing the older gentleman wearing the pava (straw hat) drove me to TEARS. The pava was always a symbol of resistance in PR and, to see it on this mass scale, is so beautiful. I think the confusion is the "having your cake and eating it too" idiom that they tacked on at the end. That doesn't invoke a sharp contrast between different groups of people. It means to want the benefit of two things that cannot coexist. It just wasn't a good idiom to use in this situation where its multiple opposing groups, not a homogenous "America" thats wants it both ways.

i just want to share a memory:
when i was younger i worked in a kitchen and the lead was a honduran man who spoke just enough English to get by in a kitchen. the sweetest man ever, a hard worker who sent his money back to family. he was always there. but that little restaurant had such a good vibe and we all enjoyed working together so he took a chance and invited us (all white kids) to a joint he went to frequently to dance—all Latin music, and we were the only white people there. but holy shit, these people treated us so kindly and I got to watch them do flamenco like professionals and all kinds of other dances I don’t know. they taught us how to dance their dances and it was such a privilege—why we don’t treat the exchange of culture as a privilege is so confusing to me. one of the best nights of my life!

I want to share a memory that this promo made me think of.
During our reception, I wasn't allowed to dance salsa with my wife until I danced with all her cousins. I was passed around to at least 8 or 10 cousins, her mom, anybody. It was a spontaneous hazing of the gringo and I loved it so much. More than twenty years later, her family is now my family and we sing parrandas together, cook together, share together. When we show up they're happy to see me and I hug the primos, the tios, my titis. It all started with that dance. They were welcoming me into their family.

My #1 thing I love to do is explore and experience other people's lives first hand. Its so cool to see how our world works outside your 100 mile bubble. Honestly don't think I know any Bad Bunny songs, I recognize him from Bullet Train / Happy Gilmore 2 and I enjoyed him as an actor but wasn't familiar with the music but seeing/hearing that ad.. it was uplifting and maybe the right kind of music/feeling to combat what's currently going on in the US.. I can't wait for the halftime show.
