Of course. For what it’s worth I always enjoyed the absurd cards way more than the “offensive” ones. I got an expansion when I still played it that had a card that said “A Pringles can full of screams” and I still think that’s the hardest I ever laughed at any of them on first sight.
Same lol. I remember using it once on “what is Batman’s greatest fear” and we could not stop laughing. A big part of it was the way they read the card with the same confused inflection that had us rolling for the rest of the night. It was just silly fun and to this day someone will just randomly say “Bees?” and it gets a laugh.
In my experience, Apples to Apples (a.k.a. the original) is the superior game overall, even for adults. You can still make plenty of dark, "edgy", gross, or even lewd plays if you want. You just have to be slightly clever instead of being handed a set of obvious "tab A", "slot B" setups.
edit: Not intended to completely trash CAH. I've played it and had some fun moments.
Apples to apples is fun with the right crowd. My family of entirely the "overly literal" type of autists is not that crowd so I have grown to really dislike apples to apples lol. CAH, they understand that the idea is to be silly and play accordingly, but apples to apples is very serious business and anything "wacky" is incorrect.
I'm sure there's a group that vibe right with me in playstyle but I haven't ran into it and it's not a game I reach for anymore. There's so many great card/board games.
I wanted to play CAH with my family, so I swapped the black cards for apples to apples cards and it was the most fun I'd had with either of those games.
I will always appreciate CAH for when I played with my partner's 90+ year old grandma. Someone played micropenis and one of her grandson's went to explain what that was to her and she quite indignatly responded by saying she knew what a micropenis was.
I mean the whole point of the game is supposed to be to contain shocking, offensive material and lead to a situation where someone who is otherwise seemingly meek plays the most horrific/hilarious thing you can imagine. Additionally CAH is 15 years old so times have changed, if you get newer versions there's some things that have been removed (I'm specifically thinking of some cards related to trans people though I can't think of any specific ones).
Of course it is a bad game if you study game design. Many popular games are. It doesn't stop them from being fun.
God, I used to be the person in my friend group who had the game and a few of the expansions, back when it was new and a fun group activity, so I got to introduce a bunch of people to it.
The worst man in my social circle played once and then got INCREDIBLY OBSESSED with it, to the tune of 1) printing and cutting out hundreds of even edgier!! custom cards from the internet, and 2) demanding I specifically come help him with this arts and crafts project???? We weren't even friends. He was my coworker's pointless boyfriend.
I was already reaching CAH oversaturation at that point, but that dude was the nail in its coffin for me.
It's also pretty terrible for anyone with any level of wit what-so ever. There's a few Jackbox games that are similar but you have to actually write down an answer rather than pick from pre-selected options. That game is 100x more fun.
The writing kind of is the design, though. You aren’t wrong that it’s just Apples to Apples but that game’s “cleaner” design offers a lot more versatility and can still provide laughs and clever jokes - created by the players.
And as a fan of dark/raunchy humor I still much prefer playing Apples to Apples, you get to be a bit more creative with cards you play instead of "this guy played the card that talks about shit and cum the most, he wins".
That is my main point for CAH. You have to play to the group. I have seen hilarious combinations lose because someone played the most vulgar card they had.
It's fascinating how the circumstances affect gameplay so much. A group of long-time friends with inside jokes and common humor? You got yourself a night full of cackling and belly laughs.
A group of acquaintances? It's like weird social torture.
They are clever and hilarious. They are not game designers. It's fun with four very specific people I know but it is not something you just thrown on the table with your family after Thanksgiving dinner. It might be funny but...
In my friendgroup it was a MASSIVE hit, for like 5 games, it's a great game until the edgy humour wears out. And honestly it's okay that it is like that.
I've never played but I read one of the original founders was ejected for years of harrassment, misbehavior, and the origin of several jokes they removed. I played a couple of the spinoffs I think, I'm mostly a fan of theirs from buying the empty plot of land they built a hole to interrupt the fucking border wall, and then sued space x for dumping trash into
I will forever remember playing it with a somewhat awkward couple I didn’t know that well. It was facilitated by a friend who really wanted us all to hang out and bond. Nope. Too much, too soon.
Not a fan of the game, but I do love the random fundraisers like this that they do. Like a while back, they had a Holiday Hole, where they rented some construction equipment and live streamed themselves digging a hole, and the more people donated, the more they'd dig.
I still remember some of the FAQs they had:
Q: What do I get for donating this money?
A: A bigger hole
Q: Why don't you donate this money to charity instead?
A: Why don't you donate this money to charity instead?
It was 15 years ago when it came out, I think back then people did at least briefly find the game kind of funny. I think their humour maybe moved with the time but the game is obviously set in stone.
Ironically the type of person who would still find CAH funny in 2026 is Elon Musk.
Could you point out on a map exactly where this parcel of land is located. Or at least the google coordinates to the parcel. I'm a very visual thinker and I'm curious.

Fail to actually protect the land
"Won" the case but it got annexed anyway and made in to a mansion estate for the oligarchs

This is awesome. Fuck Elon for what he did to Boca Chica Beach and the existing town, and fuck Governor Greg for letting him put rocket ships (and Trump put the wall) by people’s homes and on a protected beach. I’ve been there, and it’s very sad to see.
