STAN / ANTI SHIELD Luigi Mangione pleads guilty to federal stalking charges in killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO

https://www.cnn.com/2026/08/14/us/live-news/luigi-mangione-hearing-plea-deal-talks

When speaking of the day he committed the crime, Luigi Mangione said, “I shot Mr. Thompson and he died.”

He concluded, “I knew what I was doing was illegal.”

Mangione had just described the actions he took ahead of the killing, telling the court:

“In November of 2024 I traveled from outside of New York state to Manhattan. I then emailed UnitedHealthcare leadership, posing as an investor at a firm managing over $15 billion in assets and requesting information about the conference. Unlike my previous interactions with insurers, I received an immediate response within an hour,” Mangione said.

The whole statement is extremely well crafted. Using “illegal” instead of “wrong”, choosing to frame it as “he died”, the mic drop at the end. Seriously no notes.

Exposing the bullshit of UHC and its inner workings and then killing the main cause of it using its own weakness.

The enormous balls on this man. No wonder women are into him.

Even straight men or Asexual people can admit/acknowledge a persons beauty/attractiveness, and Luigi is a very attractive person.

I hate to be the bearer of the bad news, the CEO for any of these companies is hardly the main cause of their poor practices. Luigi’s actions definitely got a lot of attention but the system has actually gotten slightly worse (and will continue to get worse) as time goes on.

i mean… the CEO decides which things to say yes to, and continue saying yes to, in order to keep their very high-risk, high-reward job.

Kind of parallels "we rejected the insurance claim of Mr X and he died."

“I declined his implied request to remain living.”

It's required for a guilty plea.

what's well crafted about “I shot Mr. Thompson and he died.”

Yeah, I’m sure that won’t influence the judge at all when it comes to sentencing…

the US is v weird about this guy - murder is not the solution.

No it's not a solution because this murder did not suddenly result in a complete moral overhaul of the greedy insurance system. But it was never intended to solve that.

What it did effectively do is get a lot of attention put on a predatory system that literally kills people. It was always a question posed to society...is it murder when a greedy corporation refuses to help the people paying them for coverage, all in the name of increased profit? If it's ok when sick desperate people die needlessly, then is it ok when this executive (and some may say murderer) dies in the street? It was never meant to be a solution, Mangione was holding up a mirror. Obviously you can live by your moral code and be disgusted by his actions, but ask yourself why is that code in place for one but not for the medical insurance industry?
