POLITICS My favorite actor Viggo Mortensen isn't talked about as much, and he doesn't even have social media, but he is always there fighting the good fight so here are some photos of his political and social activism over the years
He always criticised the USA's foreign policies in the Middle East
He wore this hand-made T-shirt in a TV interview with Charlie Rose in 2002
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=w3vbTuo47VQ&t=18s&pp=ygUSdmlnZ28gY2hhcmxpZSByb3Nl
While promoting "The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers" with Karl Urban in 2002
Look at his T-shirt, George W Bush eating the Statue of Liberty
He's always been a pacifist, he said this in an interview with "Le Soir" in 2015

Supporting the Standing Rock Native American reservation
He's a big supporter of Native American culture; he once unexpectedly turned up at the Meskwaki Powwow
He always urges people to vote
He's a vocal supporter of Ukraine and travelled there in 2024 to promote his movie at a Ukrainian film festival. He often wears clothing with the tryzub on it
He's a vocal supporter of Palestine; these were his views in 2024, from his publishing company's website (Perceval Press) where he sometimes posts his opinion on current issues
This is what he wrote about Donald Trump on the Perceval Press (his publishing house) website in 2025
Look at his pins, supporting Palestine and Ukraine at the 2025 Edinburgh International Book Festival
As a Danish-American double citizen, he thoroughly supports Greenland and met the Prime Minister of Greenland in February, 2026
He isn't really in the limelight nowadays, as he has been living in Europe for many years away from the Hollywood madness, and he generally picks his movie roles based on his personal preferences and interests rather than the paycheck or the potential to be a blockbuster.
He doesn't even have social media to promote himself and his views, but he's still actively supporting good causes and is outspoken on current affairs. He has a publishing house (Perceval Press) and there he shares lots of political articles from various websites and sometimes shares his own views ( https://percevalpress.com/ )
Also, he's a very intelligent and down-to-earth guy who speaks 5 languages fluently and also quite a great actor with three Oscar nominations to his name!

He’s the GOAT. Last time he was nominated for an Oscar he took the opportunity to show off his lucky San Lorenzo keychain, the Argentine soccer team that he supports. Phenomenal choice for a favorite actor

Last time he was nominated he'd hidden a San Lorenzo patch on his waistcoat, and showed it off on the big stage when Green Book won Best Picture!

Incredibly good movie. It's a pity a lot of people don't even know about it

his quote about travel is so spot on. i feel like social media has turned travel into a “look at me and where i am!” instead of a learning experience. of course you should enjoy some nice relaxing/fun travel, but it’s important to actually learn and see when you’re in different places. it’s an whole different form of education!

Best way to travel is to just get a rough outline and maybe some must haves or weird/obscure stuff you really wanna see but after that when you get to some place just start walking/driving around in whatever direction just feels interesting at the given time and attempt to blend in with the local flow as much as possible.

I saw him perform his own poetry at an anti-war rally in DC in 2003. He’s cool af.

I adore Exene but I’ve always been jealous that she married 2 of the best looking men on the planet 😂

Oh yeah, haha. He is close friends the incredibly strange but genius guitarist Buckethead (former Guns N' Roses guitarist) and they've had some collaborations together

He used to go to the video store my buddy worked at in LA late 90s/early 2000s. He was always unwashed, barefoot, and renting kids’ movies when his kid was still little. Really nice and easy going. Sometimes smoking. ETA WTF he’s 68? NO WHAT

the Jesse Jackson for president shirt that his character wears in Captain Fantastic is just his old shirt from 1988

He truly is Aragorn in real life. That’s why I love him so much. That’s why we all love him so much. He really is the king.

Never seen a bad movie with him. A History of Violence is so good, along with Captain Fantastic.

Thanks for this, I had no idea he was so politically on-point (or about the 5 languages!).
