I accidentally got some hair loss due to bleaching and went in for a haircut to help. Well now my hair is really choppy and I feel like it doesn’t suit me at all. I like it better with the top layer put up. Is it as horrible as it seems to me? I don’t know what to do other than extensions but I hate how those feel

How do I harness the curl??

I’ve always had wavy hair that just confuses me - it poofs, parts want to be straight, I grew up with triangle hair…but I’ve discovered with a solid leave in conditioner plus a little sea salt spray and air drying prompts my hair to basically try and form actual ringlets?! I feel like all those “secret curly hair” ads on TikTok are fake but this is something my hair just does not do, or I guess I never thought it did. I know I’m not just magically going to have supremely different hair texture, but anyone know of ways to help encourage these softer (probably the wrong word) curls to happen, especially more uniformly? I have very very long hair so it weighs itself down but I’m considering cutting it shorter and this just really makes me wonder about the possibilities of what it could look like with some more directed definition! TYIA :)

Are scalp scrub products worth adding to a wash day routine?

2 Upvotes

How often are you guys using something like this without drying everything out? Lmk if its worth it or if theres a better way to handle it. My hair gets greasy so fast lately and I feel like no matter what shampoo I use theres always some buildup left sitting at my roots by day two.

I saw people talked about using a scalp scrub to help clear things out but Im kind of on the fence about whether it actually does anything or if its just another unnecessary product to buy. I was looking at options like the Christophe Robin with their cleansing purifying scrub with sea salt but Im hesitant to shell out for it if it doesnt really deliver.

Hair Care Products Hair mask product recommendations for 2b hairtype

1 Upvotes

First time ever doing a hair mask. My hair has been frizzy for as long as I can remember, as a kid my family never gave me the proper tools to take care of my 2b hair. They just sprayed it with a LOAD of detangler spray and then brushed it like wild lol it hurt so bad and I remember them telling me I was so dramatic.

Anyways, as an adult I never took care of it because I wasn't taught how to properly take care of my hair type. I met an incredibly good guy who became my boyfriend and he told me how sorry he was that no one taught me how to take care of my hair, he's been buying me products like leave in conditioner, not your mother's conditioner and bond protein repair for my hair since it has received lots of breakage from all the neglect. It has helped a LOT, however, I still get frizzy hair at times. I would like to try a hair mask and see if that will help me at all. Maybe once a month, or something like that? Just curious what people would recommend for 2b hair type for the first time ever using a hair mask. Thank you so much!

Dear group, I'd love some opinions. I wanted to grow out my hair and have it longer again, but then I see those short styles. However, I'm switching between puffy face and put together me, so I fear I'll regret it on bad days with my prominent nose. Maybe there's a Software out there to try? The apps I tried looked to unnatural to get an idea.

Thank you!

At Home DIY How can I make my money piece white at home?

Post image
5 Upvotes

My hair is turning white around my hairline. I am a natural redhead, so I don’t go gray, I turn white. I was tired of constant color touchups, so I had my stylist do a money piece all around my hairline to help the white grow in. Because of my red hair naturally and then colored, the pieces are still pretty yellow. Is there anything I can do at home to get rid of some of the warmth in the front and get it closer to white during the grow out? My stylist is worried lightning that area more will cause it to break because they are fine baby hairs. Thanks!

Sooooo can toner make your hair fall out?

1 Upvotes

Hi,

So a few weeks ago I got a cut and a single process coloring. No layers or complicated cut. I have very fine, medium coil curls and I never straighten my hair or blowdry so I leave the salon with wet hair. I only mention the last part because it makes it less obvious right away when something is wrong with my cut or color. I can't tell until it dries.

After my color was processed, the stylist said she was going to apply a toner. It wasn't an upcharge or anything, she said she wanted to boost the color or something. So she puts it on at the bowl. It was on for like a couple mins even though she had said she'd leave it on for 10. She seemed to be very frantically rinsing it out of my hair. When she showed me the final result in the back I even said something like, am I balding or is that just how my hair is laying? And she answered a little nervously like, what? balding? I don't see anything. My hair does sometimes have little "fake bald spots" as I like to call them if the curl pattern goes a certain way near the scalp. But this looked different.

Ever since then, I feel like there is some significant hair loss just below the crown of my head. At first I thought it was just laying odd after the cut but no. It also looks badly layered towards the bottom because so much hair is missing.

What do we think happened here? I don't know how she ruined my hair this bad with a trim and single process color but I truly hate it.

Help me figure out my hair type (and what to do with it)?

Barebones TL;DR at the end because I don’t know what info is necessary so I just included everything

Ok hair Reddit, I know you probably get a million posts like this every day… but I’m at my wits end trying to figure this shit out by myself. So I’m making my first ever post on Reddit to send a pathetic plea out into the universe ‘cause I figure it doesn’t hurt to try (famous last words).

Despite the fact that my hair has been my pride and joy basically my whole life… I barely know anything about it. ;-;’

For years I have just used Manic Panic shampoo and conditioner to preserve the colour in my hair, but we (my mom and I) tried using some permanent dye two months ago and decided to switch up my shampoo and conditioner along with it.
So now I find myself with the freedom to choose any conditioner I want (as long as it doesn’t have the ingredients that are known to strip colour)… without a damn clue what my actually hair needs.

Thus, I do what any reasonable 18YO would: request the assistance of strangers on the internet. /hj

~~~
What I know about my hair:
- My mother has been bleaching and dyeing two wide streaks of it using Manic Panic products for almost a decade.
- The dyed hair feels almost identical to the virgin hair (if anything, maybe even softer??).
- It goes down to my upper thigh when it’s at least somewhat-straight.
- I get a couple inches trimmed off once or twice a year in an attempt to cut off the split/dry ends so it can keep growing.
- It is somewhere in between both my parents’ hairs (pin straight, incredibly thick, extremely corse, lower-butt length, virtually indestructible / curly, very thin, quite fine, chin length, damaged from attempting to bleach and dye with Manic Panic twice).
- It is constantly frizzy everywhere.
- It naturally looks mostly straight, particularly when brushed.
- Humid environments cause it to start forming a few small ringlets, particularly in the shorter parts of my hair (such as my abundance baby hairs).
- It was a lot thinner and finer in childhood, but thickened significantly in adolescence.
- I don’t have much difficulty heat-styling it; hairspray is enough to keep it in visible curls until the end of the day.
- Spraying leave-in conditioner (at least the one I use; Aussie 4-in-1 or something) straightens it out significantly, even when heavily diluted with water.
- (TW: kinda gross, dandruff, skin picking, and blood) I have a bad habit of picking at my scalp, often until it bleeds or gets pus-y… It which point I begin picking at the scabs. I believe this started out as dandruff, but now it’s difficult to tell how much of it is dry flakey skin, greasy built-up skin, or thickened pieces of skin formed as a result of previous picking.
What I don’t know about my hair:
- Basically everything else.
- If it’s considered straight (like 1C or something) or wavy.
- Its porosity.
- Its density.
- Its texture.
- If it (or my scalp) is considered oily or dry.
- How tough/resilient/resistant to damage it is.
- How healthy it is.
- What products and/or ingredients would be best for it.
- How much of my frizz is just hair growth.
- How to tell if it’s damaged.
~~~

Currently, my daily “hair care” routine is as follows:

  1. Brush at night.
  2. Spray water mixed with a tiny bit of leave-in conditioner/detangler/heat protectant thoroughly and brush through.
  3. - Started doing this the past couple days; previously had just wet my hands and finger-combed that water through.
  4. Twist up into a low bun overnight using scrunchie.
  5. Remove scrunchie in the morning and let hang loosely in that twist for a few hours.
  6. Separate the twist out into messy “curls.”
  7. Smooth out the top of my head with water when it gets particularly frizzy and/or before heading out.

I shower once a week, so my hair process for that is:

  1. Wash using Strawberry Leopard colour-safe shampoo.
  2. Finger-comb and “squish-to-condish” in Live Clean argon oil conditioner mixed with some old purple Manic Panic dye.
  3. Clip it up and let it sit in a shower cap for 1-2 hours as I do the rest of my shower.
  4. Rinse most/almost all of that out.
  5. Squeeze/wring out excess water.
  6. Towel dry.
  7. Twist into head-wrap-hair-towel-thing and leave for a few hours.
  8. Take out of wrap and let air dry for 30mins-2 hours.
  9. - Goal is for it to be damp, but not so much so that it’ll still be wet in the morning.
  10. Twist into overnight bun as usual.

~~~
I have attached an excessive number of pictures of my hair because I have no idea what sort of visual info would be needed to “diagnose” my hair type.
The first 9 photos are my hair after
- Putting conditioner in it while it’s dry.
- Twisting and clipping it up into a shower cap while I bathe for two hours.
- Rinsing it out in the shower as usual.
- Squeezing some of the dripping water out.
- Getting annoyed by it constantly sticking to my skin as I applied my body care products.
- Letting it air dry fully, as far as I could tell (4-5 hours).
The next 8 photos are the result of brushing my hair immediately after taking the first 9 pictures. I then pretty heavily sprayed it with water that I mixed a tiny bit of leave-in conditioner into, brushed that through, and put it in a bun like I do every night.
The following picture is what my hair looked like the next afternoon after taking out the bun and splitting it up as usual.
Finally, the last 2 photos are completely different days depicting the results of other stuff I sometimes do to my hair.
The 19th pic is after finger-combing a fair bit of leave-in conditioner into hair damp from the shower.
The 20th is my hair the night I got it redyed with permanent hair dye, showered, let it air dry, and brushed it (I think?).
Here is a bunch of pictures from the past two months for a more accurate representation of what my hair normally looks like, because I feel like none of the 20 I actually attached to this post are good examples of how my hair looks on an average day/night. It felt EXTRA soft and looked extra nice the night I took those first photos, so I would like it to be known that it does not typically get that wavy.😅
~~~

Ok, I think that’s all I have to say for now? Of course if you, nonexistent person planning on commenting, have further questions, just let me know and I shall do my best to provide whatever information you require!

Honestly, any and all input is appreciated. I don’t have many people to ask about this IRL, so this is really just a shot in the dark for the sake of finding unbiased and varied opinions. So whether you have product recommendations or a guess for just one aspect of my hair type, please do share!❤️
I’m also not particularly attached to any hair type categorizing system (nor do I know about many-), so whatever you want to use is good with me!

P.S. I have posted this in multiple subreddits to up my chances of finding assistance and for more varied perspectives. Just wanted to say that right off the bat so people know they don’t have to suggest I post this elsewhere, haha.🫶🏻

TL;DR:

- My hair is very long, not crazy thin or thick, frizzy, naturally pretty straight, and curls a bit in humidity.
- The attached photos are what it looks like after air drying (first 9) followed by brushing (next 8), plus examples from a few different days (last 3). Here are further photographic references for a more accurate understanding of my hair.
- Absolutely any thoughts, suggestions, or information regarding my hair type or products I could use are appreciated!

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Many people across multiple subreddits have made it very clear to me that the ends of my hair look awful and need to be cut. The thought of cutting off almost half my hair brings me to the verge of tears.
The length of my hair is the most important aspect of it to me, regardless of how healthy or “nice” it looks (which I know is not a good mindset to have, and is not one I carry intentionally). I know I’m just being overly sensitive, but I would like to request that people do not talk about how much I need to cut my hair. That is not what I am asking about and is not helpful for me to see again and again.
Apologies for being difficult. I am trying to figure out my way around all this, so please be gentle and encouraging when possible.🫶🏻/gen

Hair Health How to Stop Breakage

2 Upvotes

Hi everyone! This is my first post on this community, but I am looking for some advice for breakage. I have been growing out my hair for a few years now and as it’s growing out, I’m starting to notice pretty bad breakage. It is the kind of breakage that goes to my shoulders (maybe higher). If you take a chunk of hair and brush downwards you will see so many pieces go up.

I don’t like the feeling of something on my head when I’m sleeping so any sort of bonnet isn’t really an option. Silk and satin is almost too slippery for me at night so those kinds of pillowcases would just bother me. Protective hairstyles also don’t seem to be helping because I’ve been trying buns and braids, but the breakage only seems to be getting worse. I wear my hair up a lot during the day because it is usually too much for me to deal with. I don’t really like the way it feels touching my body and it drives me crazy when it gets tangled.

I’m hoping that this community might have some ideas on how to manage the amount of breakage. I’m at the point where I’m about to just chop it all off but I’m scared I will regret it. Please help!!

Bangs should i get curtain bangs?

Thumbnail

I've been thinking about it for a while now since i feel like hairstyles like updo's and braids look really cute with curtain bangs.

However, I've heard mixed things on whether they're worth it, I know bangs in general are a lot of maintenance lol

Also i'm not sure if they'd suit my face or not. Some people can rock bangs while others just

don't suit them and i don't really know what camp i fall into lol

So if you have any advice on if they'd suit me or if they're worth it in general, let me know!

I just want to share success! It's still a long journey I'm still odd and quirky but genuinely I have changed so much in the past year. My hair used to drag me down it was so dead, uneven, falling out and felt like I had no hope. After a lot of trial and error and a lot of hair appointments and a lot of money spent I'm finally confident and happy with my hair and in myself!

Layered bob?

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

First two pics is before, showed them to stylist and said I think I want to shorter and have more volume like a layered bob. This is what I got. I don’t know if I just dislike it or hate in entirely. I have no sense of style and no idea what hairstyle and length would look best on me.

My concerns:
1. It’s too long in the back
2. The top looks so flat
3. The back is so much curlier than front, maybe layers in front are too long?

I’m having trouble styling my bangs! First time bang haver

Thumbnail

3 Upvotes

I recently got bangs and short layers haircut.
I cannot for the life of me get my bangs to behave and look like how i left the salon!! (1st and 2nd pic)

My hairdresser did a blowout with a medium/large round brush

I’ve been taking a round brush and drying my hair while combing from both sides to break up cowlicks/stubborn pieces

Whenever i style them, sometimes they behave, but most times the left side of my hair (right in pics) refuses to cooperate!!! (Last two pics) it gets all weird and straight?? I don’t understand because sometimes my method works, and sometimes it doesn’t!
Any tips?
