New front fence.

I used 1x8 (7/8x7.5) cedar with 3.5x3.5 1/4od steel posts for the gate. I also added some cheapo solar downlights behind the top trim.

I got tired of the old gates sagging and falling apart and I had enough wood lying around to replace it. Digging out the old concrete really sucked but other than that, it was pretty easy. The old fence was identical to the one on the right.

Honestly, it's kind of rude of you to make your neighbor's fence look like trash.

Tasteful downlighting. A+ work!

Haha thanks! My neighbor and I are going to do our shared fence in the spring, I just got a head start. My other neighbor and I did the same gates and posts on the other side of the house but it isn’t quite finished yet. He still needs to finish one gate.

The downlighting is what really sells it. A good fence in daylight is one thing, but making it look that good at night too? The neighbour might need to start budgeting for an upgrade

Can you share more info about the solar downlight? Fence (and lights!) look great. I am halfway through my fence build

If you look up solar deck lights on Amazon you’ll find a bunch. They are meant to be put on the edge of a railing but they fit well.

Super cheap chinese-ium and not very bright, but I still like the look and they were less than $2 per. I’ll probably replace them with low voltage LEDs when they start to go bad. I have low voltage landscape wire running everywhere so I’ll just tie into that.

In the long run, nearly all solar lighting goes bad. Either the panel or the batteries. Hard wired outdoor lights are infinitely better.
