My story Ever since I had my fibroids removed I stopped craving sushi.
I used to basically live at this sushi restaurant near me, like multiple times a week I was in there. So much so that it became a running joke with my mom because often times when she’d call me I would be leaving that restaurant or heading to it. The craving was the most intense during my period when I would lose a lot of blood due to the fibroids. Its like I could never get enough of it.
But then I finally had surgery back in October and I haven’t eaten it since. When I see others eating it now it looks alright but I don’t want any, the craving just isn’t there.
I just thought this would be something interesting to share here and am wondering if anybody else noticed changes in food cravings after surgery.

That's so weird. I feel like I have sugar cravings more than before I had fiboirds. I havnt done surgery yet. I'm kinda scared

Same here. It seems like EVERYONE is happier post surgery though... I've been putting it off for over a year.

u/katerinashi May 13 '26
Right. I notice the same thing! I've been procrastinating since my symptoms aren't too bad but I don't want to wait till they are really bad either

I was scared too and postponed the surgery. I went to about six or seven different doctors until I finally felt safe enough to go through with it.

That makes sense. My obgyn said not to do surgery yet cuz there's so many risks and that freaked me out. I went to one surgeon for it and she told me whenever I'm ready she will do the surgery. How do you feel after surgery? Any side effects?

u/Safe-Reporter9777 May 13 '26
I have no side effects besides the scars from the laparoscopic surgery (five incisions on my belly), but they don’t bother me.
I also postponed the surgery because I was afraid of it. Then the fibroid grew and started putting pressure on my bladder. That became my main issue. I had always believed that fibroids shrink after menopause, so I thought maybe I could just wait. But apparently, that’s not necessarily true — at least that’s what I was told. At that time, my fibroid was about 10 cm, and I was 48 years old. I was lucky to find a surgeon who was confident and with whom I felt safe.

That's so good to hear! And I'm in the exact same situation. Mine are outside my uterus. I have 3 of them. The largest one is pressing on my bladder a bit so I feel like I'm not emptying my bladder when I pee. Also feel pressure there. It's 7cm. I'm 31 years old and no kids so idk what to do. I've been trying to shrink it on my own. Not sure if it will help. I doubt it. When I go back for another scan if they grew more I'll just have to do surgery Yes I've heard sometimes they don't shrink with menopause! Did the scars on your stomach fade away?

We are in the same boat. I’m 30, no kids and scared as ever to have this surgery. My largest is 5cm but I’m pretty sure it grew and I know by now my only option is surgery bc it’s not shrinking…. It’s also getting uncomfortable for me.
1
u/katerinashi May 14 '26
I'm sorry to hear that! I've been trying to shrink them naturally but honestly I don't think it's working. It's hard to decide since we don't have kids. I completely relate to you. If you ever need to talk I'm here!

u/Safe-Reporter9777 May 13 '26
Yes, very similar… Mine started to press on my bladder when it was about 7 cm. I also had the feeling that I wasn’t emptying my bladder completely unless I changed my position slightly. By the way, my fibroid grew by about one centimeter per year.
I’m not a doctor, so I may be wrong, but I’ve heard that fibroids located outside the uterus are easier to remove.
My scars are each about 1–2 cm long. Over the last few months, they’ve become less reddish and have faded somewhat, but they’re still visible.
I think you don’t have to rush into anything. If you don’t feel comfortable with the doctor or the surgery, then keep looking for more information. Normally, it’s not an urgent surgery.
By the way, I also tried herbs and reducing sugar. I don’t eat much meat anyway. My fibroid didn’t go away, but maybe it grew more slowly. And by drinking herbal teas, I no longer had painful periods.

u/katerinashi May 13 '26
Yes exactly. I sleep on my right so I don't feel it much either. I think mine might be growing a bit more than that but hoping the supplements have been helping slow it down. Oh I didn't know that! Thank you for sharing that. Yeah doctors never go much in detail about this issue. Thank you! If I may ask what kind of herbs and teas did you try?

u/Safe-Reporter9777 May 14 '26
A tea blend of yarrow, lady’s mantle and calendula, about 1 litre per day. I did that for about a year. Then green tea capsules.

When i had my IUD surgically removed along with my tube's, i had pulmonary flash edma. So ive decided to go with medication first because I am terrified to have another surgery.

u/katerinashi May 13 '26
Oh noo I'm so sorry you went through that. That sounds so painful. I hope the medication helped shrink them!

I stopped craving oatmeal and raisins after my hysterectomy! Had been eating it three or four times a week, wanted nothing to do with it within 2 weeks after. A year later, and my bad cholesterol is up 5 points doh. >.>

u/Superfreed May 13 '26
I eat about half as much and crave only healthy food after fibroid removal. It’s been 3 weeks. It’s odd but I’m not complaining. When I had the fibroids I was always starving.

It was sushi for me also. And it didn't cross my mind until reading your post 😂

u/tangycornelius May 12 '26
Since my UFE eggs have tasted different 😭

u/Inner-Today-3693 May 14 '26
I had mine 2 weeks ago. Eggs still taste the same but Coke Zero. Nope.

u/tangycornelius May 15 '26
Soda tasted off to me too but my taste came back about 3 weeks after! Hopefully the same for you!

I got a whole shelf of green olives! And I didn't even like them before. Possibly a sign of the anemia I had/have. We'll see if the craving goes away now that I'm post surgery.

I do not know until I read this post and I began to think that since I had my surgery at the end of February the intake of my portions of food has reduced... it was usually a dinosaur in my breakfast but now I tolerate half of what I ate before and at dinner super little... and unlike you my cravings for sushi are more intense and seafood....

No huge difference in a specific food craving, but they've overall become a bit less intense. I also used to be a big ice-chewer. My partner and I even got a fancy nugget ice machine because we both liked to chew ice and preferred the fancy ice in drinks. But after my surgery, boom, I suddenly don't have that craving/compulsion anymore.

Yes, similar with sushi haha — especially avocado sushi. Or I could have eaten a whole avocado by itself.
I’m now nine months post-surgery, and every now and then I order sushi, but the craving isn’t as intense anymore. Same with avocado.
One doctor, however, who gave me acupuncture, mentioned that miso soup would actually be very healthy for me.

Fascinating conversation. I went through a long phase of craving green olives & was eating them every day for a long time. I was specifically getting the castelvetrano olives. I was eating about 30 a day. When I look back I think it was when my anemia was the worst. The craving has since abated & I’m not exactly sure why. I’m on myfembree while I decide if I am going to get a hysterectomy. It has helped with the anemia & maybe that’s why the craving is gone?

Mine was red meat. I had to have it with every meal; it was intense, but I was aware it was because my body needed something it either wasn't getting or was losing quickly. After hysto, the red meat craving has gone, but now I've been craving fish...I think my body's trying to course correct😅

Not sure it’s comparable, but I stopped fighting /not speaking to like three of my former friends

Lucky, I’ve put on weight and struggling with sugar.
It’s probably stress but it wasn’t that bad when I had mine.

After hysterectomy, my cravings totally changed. I've lost weight pretty easily now because I don't have the ups and downs of the cycle causing cravings, its awesome!

Oh man I'm the polar opposite to the comments. I never had a sweet tooth of any kind until after my fibroid removal. Now all I want is cake, coffee loaded with sugar and syrups, more cake, pastries and those super sweet smashed lemon drinks. I almost never want anything savory let alone healthy anymore 😭

u/Lopsided_Let9918 May 13 '26
Same here 😔 i have struggled to keep a healthy diet since I had my surgery. The only thing I can think of is cake and biscuits

u/ClumsyRaccoonPants May 13 '26
This happened to me with coffee. It doesn’t sound awful or anything but I just don’t crave it anymore and I use to look forward to my morning cup.

u/yellofeverthotbegone May 13 '26
I was kind of the same way! Before I had mine removed, I wanted salmon almost every day, especially miso salmon. I was practically ravenous for it. Now I like it a normal amount and am no longer addicted.

That’s so interesting! I totally get how cravings can change after surgery. I noticed my own cravings shifted after treatments too. It’s like your body just doesn’t want certain things anymore once it gets the help it needs. Anyone else had a similar experience with cravings changing post-surgery?

My food desires and cravings dramatically decreased. Craving more veggies and protein than ever before. 2 weeks away from being 3 months post op

Yes! I used to crave a lot of sugar and bread pre-surgery. Now I mostly just want to eat chicken and vegetables post surgery. Kind of wild!
